* PowerTrio: TheKirk to Saitou’s [[TheSpock Spock]] and Kenshin’s [[TheMcCoy McCoy]].

* BadassGay: One of the few characters who explicitly is gay, rather than bi, GenderBender, or SingleTargetSexuality. And one of the most badass killers around.

* ILoveYouVampireSon: Essentially the same in this situation as MentorShip; vampire "masters" (turners) and their "little ones" (turned), usually have a sexual relationship. Aoshi and his little ones definitely do, although not romantic. Aoshi and Kenshin, his 'master', do have a romantic relationship.

* WouldHurtAChild: Punts chibi toddler Atem, and repeatedly states he would do something more serious even to a child if he felt it necessary.

* WouldHurtAChild: He never does, that we know of, but he implies (or outright states) several times that he would if he thought he needed to.

* TokenEvilTeammate: The others don’t realize just how "evil" he is, usually, but he's the pragmatic killer who embraces plans others shy away from.

* Mellow Fellow: Rarely gets upset or angry.

* OurMagesAreDifferent: The closest the story has to a mage in the traditional sense [[spoiler: other than Seth]]. All other magic seems to be innate. Hakkai uses his ki sense to manipulate ki into ‘magical’ effects, unlike the the other ryu who use it to augment their physical abilities or hunt prey.

** CompleteImmortality: [[spoiler:When he transitions to a chaos demon, he's not only ageless ut NighInvulnerable; his true true form is now chaos goo, which is basically indestructible.]]
