* AgentPeacock: He likes to enter a fight in a swirl of rose petals and he wears a flowery, pink woman's kimono that once belonged to his sister-in-law. According to the SOULS character book, he is officially Soul Society's biggest dandy. Befitting this trope, he is also a captain and therefore in a position of AuthorityEqualsAsskicking. On one occasion, he tries to make sure his flowery kimono doesn't get damaged in battle, only to deliberately ruin part of his actual uniform.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He's one of the top four captains who has been in post for over 200 years. After Yamamoto's death, he gets a RankUp to Captain-General, a threat Yhwach takes seriously enough to send Haschwalth himself out to face him.

* BadBoss: Mayuri has absolutely no concern for the well-being of his men. In his introduction alone, he blows up three of his subordinates using the excuse 'bombs aren't supposed to come back'. He's extremely [[AbusiveParents abusive]] to his lieutenant, who is also his daughter; he once stabs, then savagely kicks her for letting go of his target instead of sacrificing her arm to keep the target pinned. He'll turn even allies into experiments, only saving Uryu and Renji for the chance to fill them with experimental drugs.

* IWarnedYou: He was the first to realize that Quincies would eventually attack Soul Society again after Uryu's infiltration, but Yamamoto [[CassandraTruth dismissed him as paranoid]] and thus did nothing to prepare. Come the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, Yhwach and the Vandenreich attack Soul Society just as Mayuri feared, and when he tries to [[NeverMyFault blame Mayuri]] for the mess, Mayuri quickly turns it around by reminding Yamamoto that he ''warned'' him that such a thing would happen, stating outright that the current situation is entirely Yamamoto's fault for not listening to him in the first place.

* TheWorfEffect: Not Mayuri himself, but his Bankai. Every time he has used it in the series, his Bankai has been easily defeated or had its powers used against him.

* AdaptiveAbility: In the Thousand-Year Blood War while on Wahrwelt, he reveals he modified his Bankai to give it this ability. His Bankai is able to spawn a creature most suited to fighting his opponent after analyzing sufficient data on them.

* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: Twice, Mayuri's opponents suffer greatly from invading her body. Szayelaporro impregnates her with a new body after Mayuri's Bankai consumes him, which exposes the Espada to drugs that Mayuri keeps in her body, notably a superhuman drug that enhances senses but not the body (unless properly diluted). Later, Pernida blows her to pieces and consumes the remains, which causes him to integrate her cell regeneration factor but not the part of her brain that keeps it under control, leading to him exploding in a cancerous mess.

* BadassBaritone: Kenpachi is an infamously powerful and bloodthirsty captain, and he has a low gravely voice in both the Japanese and English dubs.

* BadassBaritone: He is one of the oldest Captains in the Thirteen Court Guard Squads, and tends to be voiced by men who either have naturally deep voices or can tone down their pitches well. Creator/HideoIshikawa, Creator/LiamOBrien, Creator/GerardoReyero...

In the Arrancar Arc, Aizen tricks Hitsugaya into stabbing Hinamori, giving her the worst injury she's ever received which required organ transplant technology from the 12th division to fix.
* ItsPersonal: Hinamori is Hitsugaya's closest friend. When he has Hinamori arrested for trying to attack Gin Ichimaru under the belief that he murdered Captain Aizen, he vows to Gin that he will kill him if Hinamori gets hurt. When Hitsugaya learns of Aizen's true nature, and seeing that he had greiviously wounded Hinamori, Hitsugaya flies into a rage and activates his Bankai with full intention on killing him. He later tells Aizen that even if he has to lose his position of Captain, he ''will'' kill Aizen.

* LikeBrotherAndSister: His feelings for Hinamori are described as familial. He doesn't give her any special treatment during his usual duties, insisting that she address him by his position instead of "Shiro-chan" and arresting her for lashing out at Gin under the belief that he killed the fake Aizen corpse, but threatens to kill Gin afterward if he makes her lose even a drop of blood.
