A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Captain Alex Mason served with the United States Marine Corp before he was recruited by the [=CIA=] to join the Special Activities Division, specifically the Special Operations Group. He had served in Afghanistan, Vietnam, Laos, the USSR and in Cuba. Alex participated in a [=CIA=]-backed black ops mission called Operation 40 as part of the Bay of Pigs invasion mission in order to assassinate Fidel Castro due to his communist rhetoric. He failed and was sent to the Vorkuta labor camp, where he made friends with an ex-Red Army officer named Viktor Reznov. During this time, he was brainwashed under Nikita Dragovich but resisted the brainwashing all the way until Reznov brainwashed him into killing the brainwashers, a procedure which worked because of Mason's trust of Reznov. Despite this, Alex's brainwashing in the prison camp may have overcome him and possibly allowed him to assassinate President JFK. He did, however, complete the objective of Reznov's brainwashing.

As a Red Lantern he killed the two thugs, and, in tears, makes it his mission to hunt down and kill the man who killed his original owner. It should be noted that Dex-Starr wore a collar with the name "Dexter" on it and all humans called him by that name, the red ring is the first to call him Dex-Starr. Dex-Starr's thoughts and feelings are expressed using the same short, simplified sentences used by the character of Krypto. He is currently traveling with Atrocitus on earth, in search of the Red Entity known only as "The Butcher".

Later, after being sent into the future, he is taught the ability to jump hundreds of feet into the air by a species of blue gorilla and a jungle man, thus allowing him to reach vast areas he previously could not reach while also giving the impression that he can fly. Jack's magic sword was forged by the gods Odin, Ra, and Rama through three mortal avatars. The sword was forged from the righteous energy within Jack's father; it is unable to harm beings that are pure of heart, as seen in Episode XXX where Aku steals the sword and attempts to kill Jack with it, but fails even to cut him.

Jack strongly exhibits the characteristics of a stoic hero. He is unfailingly polite and humble despite the completely alien nature of the futuristic world and never scoffs at or disparages the customs of the people he encounters (as unpleasant as they seem to him at times). Despite his almost hopeless situation, he does not bewail his destiny, instead exhibiting a strong amor fati. Jack consistently shows an uncommon moral strength of character by helping the poor and defenseless along the way, in one instance even helping talking dogs that worked for Aku, in another, releasing the souls of a family in a haunted mansion. Occasionally, he faces great physical pain, or has to forget his own goals in order to help someone in need.

!Samurai Jack

Jack is the son of the Japanese Emperor who ruled the area where Aku originally appeared on Earth, and is banished to the future by Aku during their first battle, where he is left in every episode to search for a way home. He was born on the day that his father defeated Aku and he seems to be the only mortal (aside from his father) to be a match to Aku. As a boy, after his father was captured by Aku, Jack traveled around the world to prepare both physically and mentally for his confrontation with Aku. He studied under various scholars, such as Egyptian thinkers, and attempted to master each art of combat from the cultures he met, training with African warriors, Viking sailors, Robin Hood, Mongolian warriors, Shaolin monks, Greek Olympic contestants, Russian Cossacks, and several others. The only time Young Jack has spoken is in Season 3, Episode 5: "Jack in Egypt".

[[caption-width-right:287: Light 'em up! ]]

Luxanna was a young covert ops agent from Demacia, and a member of the Crownguard family. Both she and her brother were something of celebrities of the Demacian military and celebrated throughout Demacia as a whole as being paragons of their ideals.

From a young age Luxanna was a magical prodigy, able to reverse-engineer complicated or unique spells and roll with the best at the front lines of magic study. She was particularly adept at light, able to effortlessly create illusions or hide objects in plain sight. EVentually she could pull of impressive feats such as cloaking herself, creating very realistic hallucinations, and having a great effect on even bright ambient light. She was the youngest person to pass Demacian's Academy entrance exams, and upon graduation the Demacian military quickly dropped her into espionage roles where her abilites could truly shine.

The pressure of missions where she was commonly alone in the field, only to come back home being celebrated as a hero, living in the shadow of her brother who led the armies from the frontlines, and generally never catching a break took it's toll on the still-young Lux. She became jaded and impersonal towards war and combat operations, and felt she led an empty life. When the League of Justice put an end to war and re-organized global strife into ritual arena combat, Lux gladly volunteered for this more idealistic form of solving conflict as a champion for her homeland of Demacia. Now taken by the Nomads to participate in the Game of Gods, she seems to have become a champion for all of Runeterra.

For combat she mostly relies on her light-based abilities, having through study and practice reduced several of her more frequently used spells and powers into several simple gestures using a special focusing staff. With more concentration, however, she is able to affect light in any way imaginable, concealing objects, accenting others, creating images where there are none, creating small light sources or extinguishing them.

* BaddassBookworm: She is very intelligent, on top of being able to analyze and duplicate many magical feats, and some of her spells are back-engineered from the spells of enemies she has stolen on her various stealth operations.
* ChildSoldiers: She was pressured by her family and mentors to join the Demacian military at the age of 13.
* HardLight: Lux can use light to shield people, hold objects in place, or slow them down. She can also do energy based damage, burns and such, or a hybrid of both, being able to concentrate light and create a small explosion from it.
* HonorBeforeReason: One of Demacia's defining features; the city-state is very authoritarian with punishments some would find downright draconian, and heavy emphasis is put on personal responsibility and being generally virtuous. As a Crownguard Luxanna is expected to be a paragon of Demacia's principles, though due to her line of work and more detached outlook she is a bit more relaxed than her brother would be.
* LadyOfWar: She spent the notably portions of her life as a member of the Demacian Military, and as a Crownguard she exemplifies military dignity and honor. Though used primarily in espionage roles, she is not an inexperienced tactician.
* LaserBeams/WaveMotionGun: Though a casual swing of her wand would project a barely-coherent burst of light, with enough focus and charging time Lux can fire off some very impressive beams of light.
* MagicWand: Lux's focusing staff focuses and amplifies her abilities, and she uses several different swings with it to cast spells which would otherwise require significant concentration and time.
* Staff Chick: Lux's focusing tool is halfway between a staff and a wand in size, though in function is more similar to the latter. As for the abilities side of the trope, one of Lux's wand-based spells give short-duration DeflectorShields to other participants of the nomad's games.

** Not so ambiguous anymore. Not only has her creator outed her, but recent interactions with Yuuka have cemented that it's no longer ambiguous.
* BreakTheCutie: Very much so, in the HaloReach challenge. She starts out happy as ever, but as the challenge goes on, she becomes more and more disturbed by the violence and destruction occuring around her. She is especially horrified when
** However, she does seem to be recovering, by clinging on to the fact that they're going to try and save as many people as possible. The may make her ThePollyanna.
* FragileSpeedster: She's lightweight, and speedy even without teleporting. But she can't take hits very well.
* GenkiGirl: So Genki that the Genkiness seems to have its own prescence.
* GeniusDitz
* HiddenDepths: Her hatred of mind control and her technological prowess seems to hint at this.
* ImpossibleThief
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Shown frequently around Naoto and once with Yuuka.
** Frequently with Naoto, frequently with Yuuka, and twice with Subaru.
* TeleportSpam
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Naturally-occuring, no less.

! Dis Baba
A mysterious stranger who appeared before the Champions in the Common Room; like Blink, he is a new addition to the Champions. Dis Baba appears to be a tall, gaunt and pale human male, clad in a bizarre ensemble comprised of an ill-fitting tuxedo jacket, bellbottom pants that hide his feet from view and an enormous overcoat that he wears like a cape, all navy blue. Through his interactions with the other Champions and what he has revealed of his past, however, it is made abundantly clear that Baba of Dis (or Dis Baba, as he is known amongst his fellow Champions) is an alien whose resemblance to humanity is only skin deep. By his own admission, he is the unquestioned overlord of an empire spanning several star systems, and he is rather irritated at being spirited away from his domain to compete in challenges for the amusement of others. Interestingly, he is rather skeptical of the Nomads and their supposed divinity; as far as he's concerned, the divine and the supernatural is little more than a pile of utter crock.

* AffablyEvil: Unfailingly polite, understanding, and willing to put up with the (to him) bizarre and at times disturbing customs of the human Champions, you would be forgiven for forgetting that this is a man who brought peace and unity to his homeworld by conquering all the other colonies, and from there expanded to an empire of seventeen star systems.
* BizarreAlienBiology: It is made very clear that his species' already vague resemblance to humanity is only skin deep.
* BlueBlood: He is apparently a member of his species' ruling caste, and while otherwise a nice chap Dis Baba will brook no insult against himself. Rey found this out the hard way.
* CombatTentacles: He can transform his hand into one of these.
* GalacticConqueror: Of his own admission. Whether or not he's actually evil has yet to be determined.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: The method by which he generates his weapons is...disturbing, to say the least.
* UncannyValley: The man essentially looks like a walking corpse, he blinks infrequently, and has a tendency to make odd noises like throat clicks or a cricket's chirp whenever the whim takes him.
* WhipItGood: The above-mentioned CombatTentacles, complete with barbs for ripping large chunks of flesh and patches of skin from the victim's body with every lash.

! PHANTOM
A creation of Saren Arterius, PHANTOM is a sophisticated VI that acts as an information storage and distribution system for the Challengers. With the addition of a Spark, thanks to Ravage, he is now a fully sapient being. With a combination of Saren's and Megatron's personalities.
* EvilLaugh
* HugeHolographicHead: Saren's, initially.
* VerbalTic: Yeeesss...
