** With a bit of FridgeBrilliance, this actually is a (implied) subversion. The Joker (even when he was still Jack Napier) killed a great many people, many of them undoubtedly parents. That he appears to know exactly the incident to which Batman is referring implies that not only does he know who Batman is, but he remembers Bruce Wayne's parents. It would make sense that he would remember the Waynes, since Thomas Wayne was somewhat famous in his own right, and The Joker takes great pride in his exploits and, more so, his publicity. The murder of Thomas Wayne made front-page news. Jack Napier would probably have saved the article. When Batman mentioned that The Joker killed his parents, The Joker probably put the pieces together and figured out that Batman was Bruce Wayne.
