Subverted in that Peter ''does'' remember their encounter, if not Max's name, and recalls enough particular details of his prior conversation with Max that he nearly defuses the situation...until a trigger-happy SWAT sniper immediately re-lights the fuse by trying to snipe Max.
* Something similar happens in Creator/TimBurton's ''Film/Batman1989'', where ComicBook/TheJoker has no idea who Batman is.

** ''Film/IronMan3'': [[spoiler: The origin story for Aldrich Killian features this, with a joke being played on him by Tony Stark being the catalyst for his villain origin story.]]
** ''Film/{{Guardians of the Galaxy|2014}}'': Drax the Destroyer lost his family to Ronan the Accuser. When the two finally meet, a CurbStompBattle ensues wherein Ronan states that he has no memory of killing Drax's family... and that he will probably not remember killing Drax, either. [[spoiler: In a later confrontation Ronan claims to have since recalled killing Drax's family (and cruelly remarks how he remembers how their "screams were pitiful"), although it's ambiguous whether he actually does remember or if it's just a sadistic lie in order to [[KickTheDog hurt Drax further]]. Tellingly, he mentions no other details.]]
** This is discussed by Zemo in ''Film/CaptainAmericaCivilWar''. [[spoiler:After the climax of ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron'', the Avengers, satisfied that their work was done and their latest adventure was over, went home to America. Meanwhile, Zemo was left in the debris and rubble with his now dead father, wife, and son.]]

** Notably [[AvertedTrope averted]] in ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar''; despite the fact that he hasn't met most of them personally, Thanos knows full well who the Avengers and Guardians are (most likely through second-hand reports of them thwarting [[GreaterScopeVillain his underlings]]). Iron Man is actually a little unnerved when Thanos casually refers to him by his real name, whereas Tony didn't even know Thanos existed until recently.
** PlayedWith in ''Film/AvengersEndgame'': When facing off against 2014 Thanos, a pissed-off Wanda confronts him, seeking revenge for his 2018 self's murder of Vision. 2014 Thanos seems to think that it's this trope, bluntly telling her that he doesn't even know who she is; however, the audience knows that this version of Thanos has actually never met Wanda, and that she's referring to the (long-dead) Thanos she fought in ''Infinity War''.
** In ''Film/AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania'', when Scott meets Kang, he tries to intimidate the conqueror by telling him that he's an Avenger. Kang simply wonders if he's killed him before, noting that they all tend to blur together after a while.

* ''Film/Shazam2019'':
** Subverted. When Thaddeus Sivana was a child, he was taken to the Rock of Eternity and scouted as a potential successor for the wizard Shazam's powers, but was kicked out when he failed the test of character. When Sivana is an adult, he manages to find the Rock of Eternity and confronts Shazam to seek revenge. Sivana says he would understand if Shazam didn't remember him since it had been 45 years since they had met and the wizard had been testing and rejecting hundreds of potential successors through the years. To his surprise, Shazam recognizes him and recalls their first meeting.
** Played straight with [[spoiler:Billy's mother. When he was a toddler, his mother gave him a compass she won at the fair. It became Billy's most treasured possession and kept it as he was determined to find her. When he does find her, [[BrokenPedestal and learns she's not the mother he remembers]], he gives back the compass. She doesn't even remember giving it to him.]]

* A good-guy version occurs at the end of ''Film/{{Dredd}}'', where the title character has just survived a prolonged, intense campaign to kill him and his trainee to cover up a massive narcotics ring. Dredd reports to his superior: "Drug bust. Perps were uncooperative", [[SeenItAll as if it's just another day]].

* ''Film/MissionImpossibleDeadReckoningPartOne'' opens with Ethan Hunt being given the mission to find a unique key that will provide whoever owns it with the means to control the artificial intelligence known as "the Entity", which would give its master potential power over the whole world. When Ethan meets with his long-time allies Luther Stickwell and Benji Dunn and says that he intends to instead destroy the Entity so that nobody has its power, he observes that this means that basically just having this conversation is tantamount to treason. Given how often the team have gone rogue in the name of the greater good, Benji sums the situation up with the observation that this is "in other words, Monday".

** Inigo seems to expect and be prepared for this when it comes to the six-fingered man he's been hunting his whole life. The speech he prepared to say to him when he finds him includes [[MyNameIsInigoMontoya an explanation of who he is]] and [[YouKilledMyFather a reminder of how the six-fingered man wronged him]]. However, when they do finally meet, it turns out the six-fingered man ''does'' remember him, if just a little.
