The blog is set in an alternate continuity (known as the Calamitous Zone) that takes elements from [[SonicTheHedgehog the games]], [[ComicBook/ArchieComicsSonicTheHedgehog the]] [[SonicTheComic comics]], [[Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie the OVA]], and everything in between and merges them into [[PatchworkFic one cohesive whole]]. While most characters retain some semblance of their canon personalities, their portrayal and backstory varies wildly (Sonic is Jewish, Silver is half-robot, Eggman's motives [[http://alwayshavingjuice.tumblr.com/post/24697209891/strangely-the-thing-i-find-the-strangest-in-that differ]], etc.) Questions range from being character-focused to being setting-focused, and there’s some very thorough WorldBuilding involved.

* FantasticRacism: Against Mobians in [[WorldWarII Surface War II]] and occasionally against Sonic for being Jewish.

* FloatingContinent: There used to be about two thousand Floating Islands floating in the atmosphere, but ever since [[WorldWarII Surface War II]], that number has been reduced to less than 200.

* MismatchedEyes: Cream has a brown right eye and an orange left eye.

* HumanOutsideAlienInside: The Overlanders tend to look very human... well, without counting their occasional lack of a visible limb, or perhaps their addition of a limb, and their technicolor skin. Not counting that, however, the biggest difference between Overlanders and humans is in their blood cells. An Overlander born without Nazo Cells is doomed to die by their sixth year, while a human without Nazo Cells is the norm.

* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: The Overlanders don't seem to have natural skin tones, instead having everything from pale green to pink to blue to stark white to gray and everything in between.

* AscendedMeme: On [[http://alwayshavingjuice.tumblr.com/post/31130101156 one update]] of the story "It All Started WIth a Hedgehog," the author accidentally placed Manic's nose such that it could be easily mistaken for Sonic's pupil. This led to a minor case of amused confusion in some of the readers, and the mistake has even spawned [[http://alwayshavingjuice.tumblr.com/post/31134307874 fanart]].

* EveryoneIsASuper: [[http://alwayshavingjuice.tumblr.com/post/24236277300 Every single named character]] appears to have a power of some sort, save for the very minor ones. It’s implied that not having a power is strange and concerning.

* ElementalPowers: Knuckles has Earth powers, Blaze has fire powers, and Storm has air powers.

* ElementalPowers: Knuckles has Earth powers, while Blaze has fire powers.

* FiveTokenBand: This trope is twofold. On one hand, the fifteen main characters include two Jewish people, at least three noticeably dark skinned people, a chameleon from the FantasyCounterpartCulture of the Middle East, two open homosexuals and their adopted children, two cyborgs, and a genetic experiment. On the other hand, there are also two hedgehogs, a fox, an echidna, a HumanByAnyOtherName, a crocodile, a chameleon, a bee, a rabbit, two robots, two half-robots of dubious biological species, a bat, and an alien who may or may not be imbued with hedgehog DNA.
** The human portraits of the cast are also just as diverse; Sonic, Rosy, and Vector are Caucasian, Tails is South Asian, Knuckles is Jamaican, Espio is Arabic, Charmy and Rouge are African American, Cream is Japanese, Silver is albino, Blaze is Indian, and Shadow is Ambiguously Brown. There's also been hints that Eggman is Hispanic.
