* The movie itself is a CMOA for the writer, director, and crew, in that they took very different movie universes, Crossover put them together, and made a film that is not only watchable but actually makes both Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees into actually scary villains again.
** There's also how Jason Voorhees, of all characters, gets made into someone you can feel not just kind of sorry for, but who is sympathetic. At least in comparison to Freddy, anyway. And it doesn't feel forced.
** Considering the movie was the last time Creator/RobertEnglund played Freddy, was the last film of the "big four" slasher franchises (Film/TheTexasChainsawMassacre, Franchise/Halloween, Franchise/FridayThe13th and Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet) and was released two months before the remake of Film/TheTexasChainsawMassacre2003, in hindsight it very clearly marks the end of the original slasher age. After spending the nineties staggering around and dying, the first generation of the genre got to have a respectful and successful farewell before being remade. It was profound enough that, when it became clear a direct sequel wasn't to follow, both Englund and Ken Kirzinger were all too happy to have this be their final performances as the original incarnations of the two classic slashers, remarking that while their era might be over, it went out with one hell of a bang! When adjusted for inflation, Freddy vs. Jason is the highest grossing movie of either franchise by a wide margin and set the record at the time for best opening for a horror film
** The film manages to pay respect to the continuity and mythology of both franchises without feeling overcrowded, having the plot devolve into nonsense, or falling into ContinuityLockout. It "feels" as much like a Nightmare on Elm Street film as it does a Friday the 13th film, despite both having evolved their own styles and storytelling language. Neither Freddy nor Jason feels tacked on, like one is guest starring in the other's movie. A delicate balancing act that, by all rights, just shouldn't have worked, let alone become the highest-grossing film in both franchises at the time.
* The fact that we may see Michael Myers join the fray in the future. No potential legal obstacles here; the creators of Myers responded to the project by letting it be known that they'd love to get him involved.

** You gotta give the raver that set Jason on fire in the first place some credit: Dude just saw a tall man kill his friend by snapping his neck so hard it did an 180º, and what does he do? * Jason comes across a rave party in a cornfield and starts tearing a path of destruction through a ton of sex-starved teenagers - while he's on fire. You probably could make that scene more awesome... we're just not sure how.
** In a meta way, it is also an awesome moment for the guy playing Jason, stuntman Ken Krizinger. That scene where he leaves a trail of fire through the cornfield? That was done in one take. Ken had a cooling gel slathered all over him, was put in a specially made fire-retardant costume and given precise instruction over a radio earpiece as he calmly walked through the field, because he could not hear or see. This was for at or over a minute, where most fire stunts are over within fifteen to twenty seconds at most.

It was profound enough that, when it became clear a direct sequel wasn't to follow, both Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger were all too happy to have this be their final performances as the original incarnations of the two classic slashers; remarking that their era might be over but it went out one hell of a bang! When adjusted for inflation, Freddy vs. Jason is the highest grossing movie of either franchise by a wide margin and set the record at the time for best opening for a horror film

* Freddy's narration in the opening focuses on some of the people who have overpowered him and kicked the crap out of him, including Nancy Thompson, Alice Johnson, Tracey, Doc, and Maggie Burroughs. While Nancy was naturally going to be mentioned, that the film's willing to acknowledge the roles Alice and the others took in beating Freddy despite the criticisms aimed at the movies they were featured in goes to show they earned their places as worthy adversaries.

* Another for Freddy is when he is pulled into the real world, being reduced from a RealityWarper to a toughter than average FragileSpeedster, he sees Jason an pulls an OhCrap face, but then faces Jason down and actually gives Jason a tough fight, using the fact that Freddy is much smaller and faster than the MightyGlacier that is Jason.

* The scrapped ending sounds like it would of been made of awesome if ever realised into a sequel, the scene is that Freddy and Jason are still duking it out in the bowels of Hell, then spiked chains appear and pin both to the walls and a voice says "Gentlemen, What seems to be the problem?" and out of the shadows walks Pinhead Himself!

* I need to give least something to Freddy.. So him totally trolling Jason during the first fight. First by allowing Jason to chop off his arms, and acting like he's been already defeated and than makes them both reappear. Shortly followed by his sarcastic "Ooo, scary".

** You gotta give the raver that set Jason on fire in the first place some credit: Dude just saw a tall man kill his friend by snapping his neck so hard it did an 180º, and what does he do? Throw all the beer he had on Jason, followed by grabbing one of the torches in the cornfield and set Jason ablaze. Yeah yeah, it predictably doesn't work, but you still gotta give props.
