** TheEngineer: Kotoset Memuma, Not-Captain and head engineer of the (perpetually understaffed) Iron Gear.
** TheMedic: Medic Helt. Also the SmartGuy on the Iron Gear.
** NewMeat: Maria Maria, as she starts as an ActualPacifist, works up to a TechnicalPacifist, and ends up as a ReluctantWarrior as well as Medic's assistant.
** TheQuietOne: Fatman Big, particularly early on. [[spoiler: When he finally ''does'' start speaking it's in borderline HulkSpeak, as though he has a condition of some sort.]]
* TechnicalPacifist: Maria becomes this after her debut, working as Medic's assistant.

* ShoutOut: In ''[[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Zeta Gundam]]'', one of the mobile suits at Hayato Kobayashi's museum appears to be the Walker Gallier. ''[[Manga/MobileSuitCrossboneGundam Crossbone Gundam]]'' is even better about it, reusing a Gallop-type as a worker MS.

* MeaningfulName: Rag is generally [[MenstrualMenace very hot-tempered and irritable]].

* ColbertBump: Its appearance in the extremely popular ''SuperRobotWarsAlpha Gaiden'', and later ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ'', significantly boosted its popularity.

* TheFilmOfTheSeries: Xabungle Graffiti was released 6 months after the series ended. Basically a ClipShow. While the show is a comedic take on serious mecha tropes, the movie ''really'' takes a hammer to the fourth wall - and has an improved ending.

* ShoutOut: In ''[[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Zeta Gundam]]'', one of the mobile suits at Hayato Kobayashi's museum appears to be the Walker Gallier. ''CrossboneGundam'' is even better about it, reusing a Gallop-type as a worker MS.

** Maria comes off as a parody/deconstruction of the common RealRobot (especially ''{{Gundam}}'') pacifist heroine; however, that would not become a trend until ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Wing]]'', a whole ''thirteen years later''.

* EvilKnockoff: The Blockary, a walker machine based on Xabungle and Gallia. However, it is only threatening when Timp uses it as an Innocent grunt could barely control it and Dowas did not use it in actual combat.

* FridgeHorror: A probably intentional example: in the earlier parts of the series Fatman is a source of humor, with his grunting way of speech and his singlemindedness. Then we find out [[spoiler:that he used to be a slave, and those two traits are undoubtedly because of his horrible upbringing]].
* {{Handguns}}: Most of the main cast uses one - Daiku (shotgun) and Chiru (sub-machinegun) excepted.

** We'll find out soon enough. Xabungle and TengenToppaGurrenLagann are both slated to appear in [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ The second Super Robot Wars Z]]. [[SoCoolItsAwesome Prepare yourself]].

In the hands of anybody else, this would be a particularly gritty tale of desert justice and class warfare, but with YoshiyukiTomino at the helm during his post-[[SpaceRunawayIdeon Ideon]] emotional peak, the 50-episode series turns into an over-the-top HumongousMecha romp dripping with too much humor for a lesser (or darker) mecha anime to properly handle. Heck, even it can't handle the comedy lightly, often [[NoFourthWall breaking the Fourth Wall]] alongside the Three-Day Rule to poke fun at the cliches of its SuperRobot predecessors.

* BigBad: King Kashim, also qualifies as a CompleteMonster.

* EarthAllAlong: Apparently Zora isn't the only name people have forgotten for their planet...[[FridgeLogic save the fact that most Civilians call it Earth anyway already.]] All but a given in its ''SuperRobotWars'' appearances, especially its events developing [[AfterTheEnd After Two Ends]] in ''[[SuperRobotWarsAlpha Alpha Gaiden]]'' (the latter being an apocalyptic clusterfuck of the ''Anime/AfterWarGundamX'' and ''Anime/TurnAGundam'' backstories).

** We'll find out soon enough. Xabungle and TengenToppaGurrenLagann are both slated to appear in [[SuperRobotWarsZ The second Super Robot Wars Z]]. [[SoCoolItsAwesome Prepare yourself]].

** This is recognized in SuperRobotWars Alpha Gaiden with the "High-Efficiency Gasoline Engine" item, which improves the equipping unit's mobility and agility a bit. Try not to think about how that works in space.

** Although they become an important plot point in SuperRobotWars Alpha Gaiden,[[spoiler:The blue stones are believed to be formed from the HumongousMecha of after the Preventers time period fighting the Dinosaur and Mycene emipres as well as each other, which in turn is revealed to be caused by the Anime/TurnAGundam destroying them all with the Moonlight Butterfly]].

* SuperRobotWars: ''[[SuperRobotWarsAlpha Alpha Gaiden]]'', ''[[SuperRobotWarsZ Z]]'', and ''[[SuperRobotWarsZ Z2]]'' (The Nintendo 64 flop ''Super Robot Spirits'' and obscure ''Super Robot Pinball'' don't count because they're both off-formula and the first was awful.) Note that they follow [[EverybodyLives the movie ending]] rather than [[BittersweetEnding the TV ending.]]

** Better: he also replaces one of the forearms with a missile launcher... only for it to revert to being an arm ''in the very next scene''.

* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Nowhere near as extreme as other examples, but Jiron's single-minded quest to kill Timp a week after the fact is treated as ridiculous in a world where everyone is forgiven after 3 days. Turns out, this is the whole point of the rule, to have someone question it.

* FridgeHorror: A probably intentional example: in the earlier parts of the series Fatman is a source of humor, with his grunting way of speech and his singlemindedness. Then we find out [[spoiler: that he used to be a slave, and those two traits are undoubtedly because of his horrible upbringing]].

* IKnowThatGun: Averted for the most part, unless you apply FridgeLogic to why all the Civilians have 20th Century handguns at least 200 years after the fact.
** To that end, the major characters who use firearms on a regular basis all have a [[WeaponOfChoice personal weapon type]] - Jiron's is a Browning Hi-Power, for example - that they use consistently throughout the show, but it's never used as a method of identification.

* MidseasonUpgrade: Walker Gallier. In fact the ''first'' one of the Real Robot genre, since [[MobileSuitGundam Amuro used the Gundam the whole way through his show.]]

** Although they become an important plot point in SuperRobotWars Alpha Gaiden,[[spoiler:The blue stones are believed to be formed from the HumongousMecha of after the Preventers time period fighting the Dinosaur and Mycene emipres as well as each other, which in turn is revealed to be caused by the TurnAGundam destroying them all with the Moonlight Butterfly]].

* UnbuiltTrope: predates the likes of GundamWing and GundamSEED by fifteen and twenty years respectively, and it only gets funnier now with various mooks bemoaning why they even bother shooting at the protagonists since they'll automatically miss anyways.
