* AngstComa: After [[spoiler:Hinata seemingly rejected Naruto and leaves with Toneri,]] Naruto passes out for a few days.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Both [[spoiler:Boruto and Himawari]] dart straight out of their house in their bare feet to greet [[spoiler:their father Naruto]], not even bothering to grab shoes. [[spoiler:Their mother Hinata]] scolds them for this because they're running around barefoot ''in the middle of winter.''

* HumiliationConga: After spending most of the film drawing ire from not just Naruto but also the audience due to his callous actions, Toneri gets a well deserved one at the end. It starts when [[spoiler:his wedding ceremony gets crashed by Naruto: his maturing Tenseigan causes him to have a seizure making him reel in pain while Naruto runs off with Hinata. He then goes the Tenseigan core orb only to find it destroyed. Later, he gets beaten by Naruto's punch [[note]] (after constantly bragging how Naruto's fists would never reach him)[[/note]] that pins him to a wall of rock to which his Tenseigan eyes revert back into Byakugan. Now immobilized, Hinata then proceeds to take back Hanabi's eyes by gouging them out of his sockets causing him to wail pathetically at the top of his voice. His last-ditch attempt to drain Naruto's chakra again using his Ancestor's Byakugan, gets foiled by Hinata who protects Naruto by sharing her chakra with him , He then gets launched into space by his GiantMook, and in the process goes through a painful SuperpowerMeltdown by absorbing the sun's energy. ]] as such, said Conga is not only funny, but also downright cathartic.

The movie's opening scene WAS a direct, if extensively modified, adaptation of the Shippuden 166 scene. Wasn't the omake, though.

* FirstGirlAfterAll: While the anime had already attempted this trope in the omake for ''Shippuden'' episode 166, this movie canonised Naruto and Hinata's relationship this way, with the two of them actually having their first meeting as children when Naruto gets beaten up trying to protect Hinata from bullies.

* FauxActionGirl: Despite supposedly being [[TheChosenOne the only one]] who can destroy the Tenseigan and stop the apocalypse, Hinata gets this treatment in the movie. Let's run the list:

** When the puppets drop her, and she's hanging by her scarf,[[AcrophobicBird she forgets that one of her ninja powers is using chakra to walk on walls]], so Naruto has to catch her.

Not a retcon. Naruto’s first meeting with any of the Konoha 11 was never shown. They are all introduced as acquaintances in the chunin exam. For this to be a retcon, the meeting would need to have been shown in the manga, and then have the movie’s scene contradict and canonically replace it. Hinata’s earliest interaction with Naruto in the manga is rooting for him in his spar with Sasuke in the academy as little kids, meaning they must have met before that. That’s not contradictory to the movie. The filler Adaptation Expansion inspiring the scene is true, but that goes in the trivia page.

* {{Retcon}}: Naruto and Hinata first met when they were children when Naruto saved Hinata from bullies. This was shown in the anime during the Pain arc (albeit in sightly different circumstances), but since it was never mentioned in the original manga, it could be easily interpreted as a case of AdaptationExpansion. Now this movie officially confirms it as part of the manga continuity as well.

''The Last: Naruto the Movie'' is the tenth ''{{Naruto}}'' film, the seventh ''Naruto: Shippuden'' film and the first {{Canon}} film which serves as the [[GrandFinale overall conclusion]] of the ''Naruto'' story, set between the end of the present story and the DistantFinale.

In the movie, it's been two years since the events of the Fourth Shinobi World War and the moon begins to descend towards the Earth. With the moon now a meteor that would destroy everything on impact, an older Naruto must deal with this new threat. Meanwhile, a mysterious man tries to kidnap Hinata Hyuga, and her younger sister and heiress of the Hyuuga clan, Hanabi. Albeit the former manages to escape with Naruto's help before she's taken. The name of the man is Toneri Otsutsuki, a descendent of Kaguya. Naruto, Hinata, Sakura, Sai and Shikamaru are deployed to get Hanabi back, while the rest of the shinobi world try to find a way to stop the moon from crashing on Earth.

Despite the action-orientated premise and plot, the central theme of the story is actually [[RomanceArc Naruto and Hinata's relationship]] and how they became {{Official Couple}} in the end.

The first teaser was released on July 31, 2014, and can be viewed [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBI6TwbWUuc here.]] The second teaser was released on October 30, 2014, and can be viewed [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6baBEIF0OM&feature=youtu.be here.]] The official trailer was released on October 31st, 2014 and can be viewed [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-M5XjesDV0 here.]]

The movie was released in Japanese theaters on December 6th, 2014 with rampant success. Grossing 1.71 billion Yen in its first month, it is one of the most successful movie installments of the franchise.

A novelization came out shortly afterwards on the 8th of December.
A French release was announced for May 13th, 2015 in movie theaters.
The film's DVD and Bluray were released on July 22, 2015.

!!The Last: Naruto the Movie provides examples of:

* AbhorrentAdmirer: Toneri is one to Hinata.
* ActionGirl: Sakura and Hinata. The franchise as a whole has always been iffy in its treatment of the female characters, and Sakura in particular has always switched between this and FauxActionGirl, but this movie makes both girls fully competent heroines on par with their companions.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Naruto's Rasengan are alternately colored blue (as in the original anime) or yellow (as in the manga), [[spoiler:and when pushed out of his body by Toneri's attack his chakra is shown as yellow]].
* {{Adorkable}}: Part of this movie's reputation as a cheese factory is the cute, awkward interactions of Naruto and Hinata, who both embody this trope to its fullest extent throughout the entire movie.
* AdultFear: Several present:
** For Hiashi: Your children get kidnapped and their [[OrganTheft organs get removed]].
** For Naruto: The person you love [[spoiler:coldly rejects you and abandons you for another.]]
** For Hinata, on the flip side: just when the person you've been in love with your whole life finally loves you back, [[spoiler:you just can't be with him.]] And on top of that, because of yet another AdultFear to boot: your sister has been kidnapped. Basically, you are forced to choose between two of the most important people in your life.
* AdvertisedExtra: Despite being all over the promotional material for it, Sasuke hardly appears in the movie at all. In fact, he only gets a single line of spoken dialogue!
* AfterTheEnd: A massive civil war between the Otsutsuki Clan has turned the Moon into a post-apocalyptic state. The Moon is now a GhostPlanet covered in [[GhostCity Ghost Cities]] and mass graves with Toneri as the last surviving person on the Moon.
* AlienSky: When the Hanabi Rescue Team passes through the strange cave, they look up and see the ocean and an island in the middle of the sky. The reason for this is because the cave is actually a passageway between the Earth and the Moon and the Moon is a HollowWorld where the internal curvature of the Moon causes faraway terrain to appear in the sky.
* AllForNothing: [[spoiler: While Hinata and Naruto avert this. Toneri, on the other hand, plays it straight]].
* AllThereInTheManual: Some parts of the plot are expanded and better explained in promotional materials and tie-ins.
** The film ends showing [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata's wedding]] during the closing credits, which may give some people the idea that [[spoiler:[[FourthDateMarriage they get married immediately after defeating Toneri]]]]. However, Kishimoto created a two-page mini-story for a data book released along the movie that shows [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata's first date, explicitly stating that it takes place after the events of the film, and implying they built up their relationship]].
** A line by Sakura in ''[[LightNovel/NarutoHiden Shikamaru Hiden]]'' reveals that Naruto has actually been hanging out with Hinata a lot before the Moon Mission -chronologically, the book takes place ''before'' the events that transpire in the movie. This implies that Hinata and Naruto still maintained a close friendship with each other after the 4th Shinobi War ended. It just took the events of "The Last" for Naruto to realize that Hinata didn't just see him as a friend.
--->'''Sakura:''' “Besides, haven't you been hanging out with Hinata lately? Wouldn't it be a better idea to go and have her listen to you properly instead of bothering me?”
* AlmightyJanitor: Naruto is ''still'' a genin. Though at this point, seeing as his sensei is now ''Hokage'', it's probably due to a lack of concern and/or interest more than anything else.
* AltarTheSpeed: Toneri's statements seem to imply that his wedding to Hinata would occur only after [[spoiler: his Tenseigan had completely matured. But due to his discovery of Hinata's true intentions,]] he was forced to move up the ceremony. This resulted in Toneri [[spoiler:going through a seizure due to his still-maturing Tenseigan, giving Hinata a chance to escape with her rescuer Naruto]].
* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: Toneri tries to do this to Hinata.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Naruto delivers an extremely powerful one to Toneri [[spoiler: while holding the remains of Hinata's scarf.]] The impact manages to [[spoiler:force Toneri out of his SuperMode and revert his Tenseigan back into Hanabi's Byakugan]].
* AscendedExtra: Hinata is upgraded to a main character in this movie.
* AttackAttackAttack: What Toneri employs against Naruto in the FinalBattle. Spamming rocks, spamming truth orbs, and a giant chakra laser. All cause massive damage, but leaves him with a lot of openings for Naruto's counterattacks.
* AwesomeButImpractical: [[spoiler: The chakra cannon built by the Cloud village]] is one of the most terrifyingly powerful weapons depicted in the Narutoverse. It's destructive power can wipe out hundreds of meteors at once, and it supposedly has the ability to send something the size of the moon into another dimension. However, its long charge time would make it impractical to use in a typical war (meteors were falling for days before it was ready to fire).
* BabiesEverAfter: [[spoiler:TheStinger shows Naruto and Hinata's children, Boruto and Himawari.]]
* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Naruto's fight against Toneri in the moon definitely qualifies.
* BattleCouple: Naruto and Hinata. By holding each other's hands, they share and combine their unique chakras to [[spoiler:destroy Toneri's WeaponOfMassDestruction]] with a Rasengan combined with Hinata's Lion Fists. The scene where they do this, even has them [[spoiler:standing like a bride and groom facing the altar]].
* BetaCouple:
** The credits strongly imply that [[spoiler: Sai and Ino]] have became a couple.
** Not to mention Sasuke and Sakura. One of the reasons Sakura strongly supports Hinata in her pursuit of Naruto is because they have to "support each other", with a quick flash to the still-traveling Sasuke.
* BigBad: Toneri Otsutsuki, a descendant of Kaguya.
* BigDamnKiss: Twice, unsurprisingly, [[spoiler:both times between Naruto and Hinata.]]
** Bonus points for the first instance. How damn big it is? [[spoiler:It's [[RelationshipUpgrade Naruto and Hinata]] sharing a [[HollywoodKiss Hollywood-like]] FirstKiss [[TrueLovesKiss of True Love]], [[SmoochOfVictory after defeating Toneri]], it was [[LongRunner 15 years]] of ShipTease in the making, and they form a FullMoonSilhouette while [[LoveFloats gracefully floating]] [[FlightOfRomance high in the air]]]]! [[UpToEleven Doesn't get bigger than that]].
* BodyguardCrush: As the strongest member of the Hanabi Rescue Squad, Naruto is assigned to protect Hinata in case Toneri tries to kidnap her again. As they spend more time together, he realizes he has more personal reasons to keep Hinata safe.
* BreakTheHaughty: This happens to Toneri by the end. Compare his speaking tone at the beginning of the movie to the one at the end.
* BreakoutCharacter: Hinata, for the main franchise, in what is easily one of the most extreme cases of this in recent history. Her popularity was so great that she is promoted from supporting to main character, goes from having ShipTease with Naruto to becoming his main love interest, and has the GrandFinale canonical movie entirely dedicated to how she and Naruto fell in love.
* BrickJoke: Hanabi warns Hinata that she should eat something because she doesn't want her stomach to growl when she is confessing to Naruto. When she encounters Naruto later as she is about to give him the scarf she made, her stomach growls loudly effectively ruining the moment.
* BridalCarry: Naruto carries Hinata like this a couple of times in the movie.
* TheBusCameBack: After not appearing for six hundred chapters (except in a dream), Hanabi, Hinata's younger sister, appears in this movie. In order to make her reappearance easier to swallow, the anime aired a two-parter filler that retells most of the series from her perspective; the first episode even aired the same week the film was released in Japan.
** Also for the general relevance of the Byakugan. which was originally introduced as the equal of the Sharingan, only to be rendered more and more irrelevant by the repeated focus on the Sharingan and later Rinnegan as the most powerful eye-based bloodlines. Turns out this is because while the Rinnegan and Sharingan originate from the Rikudo Sennin, the Byakugan came from his brother, who was the ancestor of the film's BigBad.
* CallBack:
** One scene in the movie shows Naruto in his small, dark apartment, all alone as he stares out the window. TheStinger, after the credits show [[spoiler:his and Hinata's wedding, sees him arriving to a large, lit up home, being greeted by Boruto and Himawari as his wife watches on,]] emphasizing the fact that after a childhood of loneliness, Naruto doesn't have to return to an empty home anymore.
** Early in the series, Haku asked a rookie Naruto this: ''“You said you wanted to become the best Ninja in your village and have everyone acknowledge you. Now, if someone who acknowledged you from the bottom of your heart appeared, wouldn't that someone become the most important person to you?”.'' Now, Naruto has become one of the best Ninjas in the world, and won everyone's acknowledgement, but still hasn't found "that someone". Until he realizes that "that person" was Hinata all along.
** During th ''Invasion of Pain'' arc, Shikamaru told Naruto that "eventually, you'll be the one paying for the ramen and someone will be calling ''you'' 'Naruto-sensei'". Nowadays, Naruto is teaching kids some of his moves and treats them to Ichiraku ramen.
** When Naruto falls down and hurts his back, Hinata gives her some ointment, only for Naruto to reference the Chunin Exam when she gave him some after his preliminary match with Kiba.
** Naruto demanding [[spoiler:Toneri]] should "Give [[spoiler:Hinata]] back!" is very similar to him demadning that Orochimaru should "Give Sasuke back!" in the ''Sai and Sasuke'' arc. However, this time there's no anger or SuperpoweredEvilSide taking over --just desparation.
** One from the Introduction Arc: Naruto having a crush on Sakura, because of Sakura liking Sasuke was implied in [[http://www.mangapanda.com/93-3-17/naruto/chapter-3.html Chapter 3]] (Note: Naruto was transformed as Sasuke at the time).
** Back in the Chunin Exam arc Naruto made a HeroicVow to defeat Neji for Hinata's sake. Here he makes another vow, this time to [[spoiler:save Hinata from Toneri, and to properly return her feelings for him.]]
** It isn't the first time Sakura had to fight through an army of puppets.
** A subtle one to the Five Kage Summit Arc: Dependence on powerful doujutsu can only get one so far, A much more skilled and experienced opponent can lay the odds to his favor. Much to Toneri's consternation.
** The final fight features another subtle one referercing the Ten-Tails Revival Arc: [[spoiler:This time it's [[SwappedRoles Hinata]] that holds Naruto's Hand, empowers him and protects him by sharing chakra with him]].
** Toneri using Hanabi's eyes to recreate the Tenseigan is reminiscent to Madara who used Hashirama's DNA in getting the Rinnegan.
** Naruto's fight against Toneri references his past fights against Neji and Pain, both fights had Hinata involved in some capacity. In those fights, she missed the outcomes due to being unconscious or the battle being moved somewhere else. [[spoiler:Here she gets to see the fight to the very end.]]
** Like Obito, Toneri manages to create a giant sword out of his truth seeking orbs, [[spoiler: that Naruto manages to destroy.]]
** Like in the Infinite Tsukuyomi sequence, Hinata's [[spoiler: final thoughts before she loses her free will are about Naruto.]]
* CallForward: Plenty towards the epilogue.
* CanonDiscontinuity[=/=]NonSerialMovie: {{Inverted|Trope}}; this film is the only ''Naruto'' movie that is explicitly stated to take place in the same continuity as the manga itself.
* TheCaptain: Shikamaru commands the rescue team to save Hanabi.
* TheCameo: Several characters are featured throughout the movie in small roles, including Hashirama, Tsunade, Minato, Kushina, Killer Bee, Kankuro, Temari, Gaara, the other Kages, Madara, Pain, Gai, Lee, and Sasuke. The post-credits sequence also features the first animated look at [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata's kids: Boruto and Himawari]].
* CannotSpitItOut: This time it's Naruto who has trouble admitting his love to Hinata. At least he managed to spit it out in the movie, compared to the ''years'' it took Hinata to finally confess to him.
* [[ManaDrain Chakra Drain]]: Toneri can apparently absorb all forms of chakra from a distance, which means that anyone [[spoiler:who doesn't have Hamura Otsutsuki's chakra]] that attempts to fight him will be rendered useless and powerless in a very short amount of time. Naruto finds this out the hard way when he fights him face to face for the first time right after he confesses his love to Hinata. Though his bad condition after that fight also has to do with [[NotGoodWithRejection something else]].Toneri tries this again on Naruto after [[spoiler:losing to him.]] Fortunately for Naruto, [[spoiler:Hinata shares the Hamura chakra she got during the movie with him in order to protect him from it.]]
* CherryBlossoms: In the credits [[spoiler: where Naruto and Hinata's wedding reception]] is surrounded by cherry trees in full bloom.
* ChickMagnet: After essentially saving the world, Naruto's popularity with the females of Konoha has skyrocketed -- [[ObliviousToLove much to his utter confusion]].
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Hinata has harbored feelings for Naruto since their childhood, and the trailer shows scenes of them from when they were kids. A dream sequence shows them at the Academy, where they were asked to write the name of the person they would spend the end of the world with. Naruto didn't write any names since he didn't know his family nor had any friends, but when he looks at Hinata's paper (their dreams were connected), he saw ''[[WhamShot his name]]'' on it.
* TheChosenOne: It's revealed that [[spoiler: Hinata]] is the [[spoiler:Byakugan Princess]], which means that she is the only one that can yield [[spoiler:Hamura Otsutsuki's chakra]], the only thing that can [[spoiler: resist Toneri's [[ManaDrain Chakra Drain]], destroy his [[WeaponOfMassDestruction Tenseigan Core orb]] and harm him]]. Somewhat subverted in that [[spoiler: she lacks the brute strength required to destroy the Tenseigan Core orb and fight Toneri on her own]] and has to [[spoiler:combine her Twin Lion Fists with Naruto's Rasengan]] in order to eventually fulfill her destiny.
* CleaningUpRomanticLooseEnds: The purpose of this movie is to resolve the romantic complications throughout the series. More specifically, it's to show how Naruto outgrew his feelings for Sakura, and fell in love with Hinata.
* ClippedWingAngel[=/=]EpicFail: Toneri's attempt at pulling a YourPrincessIsInAnotherCastle maneuver backfires horribly when he [[spoiler:gets too close to the sun. He would have died if Naruto didn't decide to SaveTheVillain.]]
* CluelessChickMagnet: No doubt due to his emotionally and socially stunted childhood -- Naruto's more popular than Sasuke ever was, yet since he no longer craves attention (and hasn't for a while), he has no idea how to react to his ChickMagnet status, if he's even aware of it at all.
* ColorMotif: Naruto is associated with the color Orange, and Hinata is associated with the color Purple. Said colors are placed on [[RuleOfSymbolism opposite ends from one another]] in the spectrum, What do they have in common? Red.
* CoolBigSis: Sakura's role in the movie, as she takes Hinata under her wing and encourages her to get closer to Naruto.
* ContinuityNod: Given how the movie is canon with the manga series, this is to be expected.
** Kakashi is Hokage, having been made the Sixth prior to the DistantFinale, and no longer possessing a Sharingan.
** Naruto has a bandaged right arm, having lost the original and replaced it with a new one, while Sasuke is still missing his left arm because he left the village before getting a new one.
* ColonyDrop: The moon is falling towards Earth.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Sakura suggests Naruto walk Hinata home because its not safe for a lady to be alone after dark. Naruto can't understand why because Hinata is so strong no one would mess with her.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Toneri's fighting style is completely reliant to the Tenseigan and nothing else. When [[spoiler:Naruto punches it out of him, he is rendered powerless.]]
* DamselInDistress: Hanabi. Toneri kidnaps her [[spoiler:in order to take her Byakugan for himself]]. They also try to kidnap Hinata, but Naruto manages to rescue her before she's taken.
* DeliberatelyDistressedDamsel: Hinata [[spoiler:turns herself in to Toneri later in the movie. But it's all to save her sister and to destroy Toneri's EvilPlan.]]
* DemotedToExtra:
** As stated above, Sasuke. Though seeing as his main character arc in the series has been resolved by this point due to him giving up revenge and becoming TheAtoner his limited screentime here simply showcases the results of his development. [[spoiler:In the scenes where he rescues an injured Hiashi, and brings him back to the village for treatment, as well as protecting the Leaf from an oncoming meteor.]] By extension his clan is this as well, as the plot of the movie, and villain's motivations has nothing to do with the Uchiha.
** Aside from Sasuke, several of the Konoha 11 (with the exceptions of Hinata and Shikamaru) end up this way, only making appearances at the start and/or having only a single line of dialogue. Characters like Tenten, Kiba and Shino don't even speak at all!
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Hinata gets promoted to this role.
* DistantFinale: TheStinger of the film takes place a few years before chapter 700, showing [[spoiler:Naruto, Hinata and their children playing around at their house.]]
* DistressBall: Eventually picked up by [[spoiler:Hinata]]. She pretends to [[spoiler:go along with Toneri's marriage proposal]] in order to [[spoiler:infiltrate his base, rescue Hanabi and destroy Toneri's [[WeaponOfMassDestruction Tenseigan Core orb]]. She winds up getting caught red handed, [[HypnotizeThePrincess becoming mind-controlled by Toneri]] and must be rescued by Naruto during the movie's climax.]]
* DudeShesLikeInAComa: Averted at first then subverted later. In the first instance, Toneri is watching Hinata sleep with a longing look in his eyes, comments on how beautiful she is, but doesn't kiss her. He opts to read her mind instead. In the second instance, [[spoiler: Hinata is not asleep, but she is [[HypnotizeThePrincess mind controlled]] and unable to consent while Toneri leans over to give her a wedding kiss, that gets interrupted when Naruto bursts in]].
* TheDogBitesBack: Or, more accurately, [[spoiler:she [[EyeScream gouges her sister's eyes out of your eyesockets]]]]. Given that Toneri [[spoiler:kidnaps her sister, removes her eyes, almost [[MurderTheHypotenuse kills her love interest]], [[HypnotizeThePrincess cruelly turns her into one of his puppets]] and [[DamselInDistress stuffs her into a cage]]]], [[spoiler:Hinata's]] extreme reaction is definitely understandable.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: The entire purpose of the movie is to show how Naruto and Hinata fell in love and have their HappilyEverAfter, after the long and hard road that was the rest of the series.
* EmbodimentOfVice: Toneri manages to exhibit four of the SevenDeadlySins. Pride: by being a SmugSuper. Envy: by being a GreenEyedMonster and a {{Yandere}}. Wrath: through his DisproportionateRetribution. Lust: his lust for Hinata and lust for power.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Hinata's feelings are as painfully obvious as ever. And, after Naruto's feelings sink in, he has a just as hard time hiding his affections.
* EvilAlbino: Toneri. See WhiteHairBlackHeart below.
* EvilCounterpart: Toneri manages to be this with both Hinata and Naruto.
** Toneri is shown to be very envious, spiteful, and selfish while Hinata is kind, considerate, and selfless.
** Toneri being the SmugSuper to Naruto's HumbleHero.
* EvilIsPetty: Despite how Toneri presented himself as a WellIntentionedExtremist, he's actually very petty. Most of his dog-kicking moments carry an air of petty spite.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: The title of the film is ''The Last: Naruto the Movie'', because it is literally the last movie in the franchise with Naruto as the main character. [[spoiler:The next movie is to star Naruto and Hinata's son Boruto]].
* EyeScream: Hanabi has her eyes removed by Toneri. Later, [[spoiler:Hinata rips her sister's eyes out of Toneri's eye sockets ''herself'', ala Madara, so she can give them back to Hanabi.]]
* FallingInLoveMontage: There's one with Naruto and Hinata, after Naruto ''finally'' realizes Hinata's feelings. Their {{Adorkable}} interactions make it very clear that they aren't fooling ''anybody'' -- not their teammates, not the BigBad, and most definitely not the audience.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Toneri gives this impression. When Hinata keeps questioning the validity of his interpretation of Hamura's decree, he angrily tells her to never ask him about this again.
* FictionalHoliday: The Rinne Festival, which seems to be the Narutoverse's counterpart to Christmas.
* FightingYourFriend: More like [[spoiler:Fighting Your LoveInterest; A brainwashed Hinata]] is forced by Toneri to fight Naruto. Fortunately for [[spoiler:Hinata, Naruto manages to free her without harming her.]]
* FinalSolution: Toneri plans on exterminating the human race... simply because they use chakra as a weapon for war.
* FirstKiss: [[spoiler:Hinata finally gets hers with Naruto. Unfortunately for Naruto, he already had his a long time ago with... Well... let's just say it's the page image for AccidentalKiss for a reason. It is, however, the first TrueLovesKiss for both of them.]]
* ForcedToWatch: Toneri locks [[spoiler:Hinata in a cage so she can see him kill Naruto. It backfires since all she got to see was him suffering a humiliating defeat.]]
* ForegoneConclusion: People who read the manga to the very end know exactly whether Naruto and Hinata WillTheyOrWontThey (The movie is more a case of "How will they"). Also, the moon isn't going to destroy the village, since it's intact in the DistantFinale.
* FreudianSlip: As Naruto tries to lift Hinata's spirits about her sister's kidnapping, he assures her [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial he's not just being kind because he's in love with her]], but because he really is worried about Hanabi. [[RepeatWhatYouJustSaid It does not go unnoticed by Hinata.]]
* GenerationXerox: Many of the tropes that occurred during Minato and Kushina's romance are echoed in Naruto and Hinata's, such as RescueRomance and RedStringOfFate. Even the OppositesAttract trope is in play, except inverted, where Naruto is the boisterous one oblivious to his love interest's affections (until this movie), while Hinata is the quiet one who has loved and admired from afar, since the day they first met.
* GhostPlanet: The Moon is a ghost planet as a result of an apocalyptic civil war taking place within the Otsutsuki Clan. When Naruto and his friends arrive on the Moon, they find it to be covered in [[GhostCity Ghost Cities]] and mass graves.
* GildedCage: Toneri's castle can be considered one [[spoiler:for Hinata.]] Its fairly luxurious, with staff comprised of puppets to cater to your every whim. However, make one wrong move, get caught by the surveillance puppets oranger Toneri and you'll end up [[spoiler:becoming a puppet yourself]].
* [[GirlOfTheWeek Girl of the Movie]]: Subverted. For once, the main female character isn't Sakura or the local girl; it's Hinata. Justified, as this movie is the canonical bridge between the second-to-last chapter and the DistantFinale epilogue, detailing how Naruto and Hinata fell in love.
* GlassCannon: For all the power the Tenseigan gives Toneri, [[spoiler:a sufficiently powerful attack can get it to revert back into a Byakugan.]] Also, he has zero defense against physical attacks. [[spoiler:When Naruto [[ArmorPiercingAttack punches him]] in the FinalBattle he is immediately incapacitated.]]
* GrandFinale: For the ''Naruto'' manga. However, it isn't set at the ''very'' end of the manga, since it takes place before the epilogue. This is essentially Chapter 699.5 and finally settles [[spoiler:the WillTheyOrWontThey dynamic between Naruto and Hinata.]] The film was released a month after the manga ended though.
* GraspTheSun: Naruto "reaches out to sun" when he makes his HeroicVow to save Hinata and reciprocate her feelings. Goes with VisualPun as Hinata's name [[MeaningfulName means]] "into the sun/place in the sun".
* GreenEyedMonster: Toneri is the romantic variation. He takes a brief look into Hinata's heart and finds out that it is still filled with thoughts of Naruto. He [[LoveHungry doesn't take it very well]]. To his credit he actually tries to win her over and even requests of her to make him a scarf like the one she made for Naruto. When this doesn't work out [[spoiler:since she was actively trying to undermine him]] and her feelings for Naruto are just too strong, he decides to [[spoiler: HypnotizeThePrincess]].
* GrowOldWithMe: [[spoiler:Naruto makes it all too clear in the movie that he loves Hinata, by stating that he wants spends every single day until the day he dies with her, and ''only'' her.]]
* HeldGaze: Naruto and Hinata, several times throughout the movie.
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:Hinata goes with Toneri (in order to [[DecoyDamsel have a better chance at saving Hanabi]]) minutes after Naruto confesses his love for her. Thinking it's a rejection,]] Naruto does not take it well at all, until Sakura manages to snap him out of it by telling him that [[spoiler:Hinata has [[SingleTargetSexuality only ever had eyes for him]], and that it's something that won't change any time soon]].
* HeroicSecondWind: After receiving Sakura's pep talk, Naruto gets back into action after recovering from his HeroicBSOD, [[spoiler:now more determined than ever in saving Hinata.]].
* HeroicVow: Naruto makes a promise to [[spoiler:rescue Hinata, and properly respond to her feelings for him]].
-->'''Naruto''': [[spoiler: Wait for me. You've loved someone like me forever and ever. Now, as a man, there's something I've got to say to you. Hinata. I swear I'll save you.]]
* HoldingHands: Naruto and Hinata do this several times in the movie. Also doubles as a CallBack and MeaningfulEcho, as throughout the series, it's been stated that this is the one thing that Hinata has always wanted: to walk side-by-side with Naruto and hold his hand. [[spoiler: In the final fight it's especially significant as both Naruto and Hinata perform their CombinationAttack this way, Hinata does this in order to protect Naruto from Toneri's [[ManaDrain Chakra Drain]] by [[SwappedRoles sharing Hamura's chakra with him]], when Naruto proposes to Hinata the scene is spent with the both of them doing this, finally they hold each others hands as a prelude to their BigDamnKiss.]]
* HollowWorld: The Moon is a Hollow World with a large ocean, dense vegetation, a breathable atmosphere, and [[GhostCity Ghost Cities]] on the inside of its surface and an artificial sun in the center. A thousand years ago, Hamura and the Otsutsuki Clan came to live on the Moon and were able to {{Terraform}} the Moon to make it inhabitable.
* HopelessSuitor:
** In the first act, Hinata thinks she is this. [[spoiler: only to be proven utterly wrong, much to her surprise]].
** Toneri is this to Hinata. This is underlined during his time with her, which shows how ''incompatible'' he is. He ''never'' had a chance with her ''at all''.
* HumbleHero: By this point, Naruto has managed to completely outgrow his GlorySeeker phase.
* HypnotizeThePrincess: Played straight with [[spoiler: Hinata]] right after Toneri catches her in the act of [[spoiler: trying to destroy his [[WeaponOfMassDestruction Tenseigan Core orb]]]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: In the end, [[spoiler:when Hinata performs EyeScream on him to reclaim Hanabi's eyes, he reacts with anger and sore cursing, he doesn't seem to recall that he stole those eyes to begin with.]]
* InternalReveal: Naruto is surprised when he learns that Hinata has been in love with him since they were children. However for the public and most of Naruto's friends, they've known it for ''years'' -- Hinata isn't really subtle with her feelings for him, ''and'' she outright confessed to him two years ago; Naruto's just too dense to realize it was THAT kind of love, instead of the love he has for ''ramen''. You can see the sadness on his face when he realizes that all those years he's was trying to get acknowledged by the village, he was blind to the one person who has acknowledged and loved him since the very beginning.
* InLoveWithLove: Toneri [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructs this]].
* {{Interquel}}: It's set between the ending of the manga and the manga's own epilogue. The movie gets its own {{Interquel}} in the form of a novel [[spoiler:called ''[[LightNovel/NarutoHiden Konoha Hiden: The Perfect Day for a Wedding]]'' which focuses on the rest of the Konoha 12 as guests in Naruto and Hinata's wedding .]]
* IronicEcho: Hinata was told by Toneri that she will be shown the Tenseigan core once they are married. [[spoiler:Later, she and Naruto destroy the core while positioned like a bride and groom]].
* {{Irony}}:
** Hinata has not-so-quite-subtly pined after Naruto for ''years'', and he was unable to register her and his own feelings as THAT kind of love even ''after'' she spit it out to him and he held her hands during war. Then, when he ''finally'' realizes what romantic love actually means, ''Hinata'' can't see it even though everyone else can. The sheer irony of the situation is so painful that it makes it funny.
** Toneri constantly brags to Naruto that his fists would never reach him. [[spoiler:In the final battle, he fires a chakra laser against Naruto who plows through it using his fist, closing the gap. This also left him a sitting duck (since he had to remain still to aim in the fist place) to Naruto's followup punch which connects and sends him flying.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: One of Toneri's most defining traits without a doubt, The movie makes it ultimately clear that he is selfish and highly egotistical. Adding his complete LackOfEmpathy, he's close to being a full blown sociopath.
** By extension, he clearly diplays self-centered affection towards Hinata. Getting her to knit a scarf for him seems less an attempt at winning her over, and more as something to nurse his bruised ego.
--->'''Toneri ''':I'm Happy that you understand how '''I''' feel, Hinata.\\
'''Toneri ''':Will you knit me a scarf.... A scarf '''just for me'''.
** He eventually [[spoiler:hypnotizes her to become one of his puppets, showing that he treats her more as his trophy rather that caring for her as a person.]]
* ItsPersonal: For a person who antagonizes the entire world with his ColonyDrop plan, Toneri manages to give both Hinata and Naruto very personal reasons in taking him down.
** Hinata, because Toneri kidnapped and later blinded her younger sister.
** Naruto, because Toneri forced Hinata into a position where she had to make a choice that would hurt both her and him (Naruto), [[spoiler:turned her into one of his puppets through mind control, and destroyed the scarf she worked so hard to make out of spite.]]
* {{Kaiju}}: Naruto summons Kurama to fight against a giant golem that Toneri summons.
* KarmaHoudini: Toneri is a Subversion. [[spoiler:Sure, he gets EasilyForgiven by Naruto and Hinata, but he has to live with the realization that his actions went completely against his ancestor's wishes. It causes so much guilt and, for someone who went on about honoring his ancestor, this is a fate worse than death]]. Also he's actually much worse off than before. Because not only is he [[spoiler:blinded again, The Tenseigan core's destruction renders him powerless with his puppets remaining deactivated, and by staying on the moon he condemns himself with the very thing he was trying to escape.]]
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Hinata spends the latter part of the film wearing a fine black gown[[spoiler: most notably the scene where she and Naruto perform a CombinationAttack to destroy the Tenseigan core orb]]. It should be noted that the dress gets progressively damaged as the final part of the movie goes on.
* KickTheDog: Toneri definitely has those sort of moments, but his biggest one so far is [[spoiler:when he turns Hinata into one of his puppets]].
* KryptoniteFactor: Toneri's only weakness is [[spoiler: Hamura's chakra]]. Not only is Naruto not affected by it but it also [[spoiler:protects him from Toneri's [[ManaDrain Chakra Drain]] during his final confrontation.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: Toneri clearly shows this, performing EyeScream on a young girl with no hint of guilt, using said girl as a bargaining chip for her sister Hinata, shooting down Hinata's attempts to dissuade him from his plan, not giving Hinata a chance to explain herself[[spoiler: when she is caught trying to destroy his superweapon, and hypnotizing her to become one of his puppets]]. Our heroes even note the remorselessness of his actions at multiple times in the movie.
* LastMinuteHookup: So last minute that the title of the movie is even ''The Last''. The movie is an {{Interquel}} set between the second last chapter and the last chapter of the manga.
* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Pun aside, this is the only canon movie. [[note]]As a tidbit, This page is listed as Film rather than Anime[[/note]]
* LateArrivalSpoiler: The movie's trailer doesn't try to hide what happened during the final chapters of the manga.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Everything Toneri has done, ultimately returns to bite him back hard by the end of the film. In short, [[spoiler: the eyes he stole were reclaimed by the woman he forcibly attempted to marry right after suffering defeat at the hands of the guy he tried to off]] .
** For ruining Naruto's first confession to Hinata, he would later [[spoiler:get his wedding crashed by Naruto, who would run off with Hinata, while he remains reeling in pain from his eyes.]]
** For spitefully destroying the scarf that Hinata worked so hard to make, [[spoiler:Naruto would later hold the scarf's remains as part of a powerful attack that defeats him and depowers his Tenseigan.]]
* TheLeader:
** Kakashi is the 6th Hokage.
** In Naruto's group, that role is fulfilled by Shikamaru.
* LeaveTheTwoLovebirdsAlone: Sakura, Shikamaru, and Sai do a version of this trope without the leaving part. [[spoiler: While Naruto and Hinata]] are having a very tender moment, the three of them stand in the background, being quiet in order to preserve the moment, all while smiling for the lovely couple.
* LightIsNotGood: Toneri, who spends most of the movie clad in a white robe. [[spoiler:He switches to [[DarkIsNotEvil black]] at the end of the movie, implying he's pulled a HeelFaceTurn.]]
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Naruto and Hinata's relationship. Naruto's spirit and determination inspired Hinata to never give up on herself, while Hinata is the one who always brought Naruto back from the brink of despair during some of the darkest moments of the series. [[spoiler:When it seemed Hinata had "rejected" him, Naruto looked close to giving up on ''everything'' -- only a pep talk from Sakura about the unwavering love and devotion Hinata has had for him for ''years'' does he snap out of it]].
* LongingLook: Naruto gives one to Hinata in the village scene, his eyes shining in a way that makes it look as if he's seeing her, ''really'' seeing her, for the very first time.
* LoveHungry: Toneri's defining character trait.
* LoveInformant: Sakura takes this role, as Naruto and Hinata's ShipperOnDeck, [[spoiler:where she gives Naruto an important pep-talk regarding Hinata's love for him]].
* LoveInterestTraitor: Inverted. Naruto thinks [[spoiler: Hinata]] is this after [[spoiler: she runs off with Toneri right after his love confession to her]]. In reality, [[spoiler: she intends to actually betray Toneri, rescue Hanabi and destroy the Tenseigan Core orb]]. Thankfully, [[spoiler: Sakura sets Naruto straight afterwards]].
* LoveRevelationEpiphany: Naruto realizes the true nature of his feelings for Hinata after finally understanding how she really feels about him.
** Demonstrated when he stops wearing the scarf [[spoiler:from his late Mom]] after realizing that the scarf Hinata was knitting was for him, understanding that he can't remain attached to the past, and accepts that it's time to move on in order to pursue a relationship with Hinata by willingly accepting the scarf she made.
* LoveTriangle: [[AscendedExtra Hinata]] finds herself in one with [[TheHero Naruto]] and [[BigBad Toneri]]. [[TriangRelations Type 4]] .
* LoveYouAndEverybody: During the Pain Arc, Hinata told Naruto she loves him, but Naruto interpreted Hinata's confession as her saying she likes him as a friend. He finally gets it right after seeing her memories.
* LovingAShadow: Sakura helps Naruto realize that his crush on her was ultimately another facet of his rivalry with Sasuke -- what Naruto has with Hinata is his first experience of true love.
* TheMedic: Sakura is credited as the Leaf's Strongest Healing Ninja.
* MindControlDevice: Toneri's green orbs seem to act this way [[spoiler:combined with his Tenseigan]].
* MindControlEyes: A very interesting case with [[spoiler:Hinata]]. The basic design of her eyes (as in the eye design from start of the manga until now) ''already'' fits the description of the trope, so it's not the eye design itself that indicates she is being controlled. Rather it's her expressionless face [[spoiler:when she is forced to fight Naruto]] that gives it away.
* MythologyGag: Naruto and Hinata's CombinationAttack greatly resembles the "Joined Hands" team-up from the Ninja-Storm games.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** Toneri's attempts to [[spoiler:push Naruto and Hinata apart only result in the two of them getting back together with their bond much stronger than before, and becoming the OfficialCouple.]]
** Toneri coming out of his base to [[spoiler:pick up Hinata personally, eventually gets Shikamaru and Sai (who have spent days looking for it on their own) to successfully locate it.]]
* NoHuggingNoKissing: After being played straight for 700 chapters in the manga, this trope ''finally'' gets [[AvertedTrope kicked in the ass]] in this movie. Supposedly Masashi Kishimoto (who never wrote any on-page romance in the manga due to chronic embarrassment) had to ''cover his eyes'' at the end during Naruto and Hinata's BigDamnKiss when he attended the premiere screening.
* NotGoodWithRejection: [[spoiler:Naruto]] and [[spoiler:Toneri]] both play this straight. [[spoiler:Naruto]] goes into a HeroicBSOD [[spoiler:that he only manages to recover from after being told that the "rejection" was obviously a facade and Hinata's feelings for him would never change]] while [[spoiler:Toneri goes on full Yandere mode and decides to HypnotizeThePrincess which gets undone by the first guy]].
* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: What sets this film apart from the other films is that the existing Status quo is different from before, to the point that the entire cast wears different outfits. Furthermore, the events of the film have impact on the manga. [[spoiler:Namely, that in this movie, Naruto and Hinata finally get together and marry.]]
* ObliviousToLove: Naruto remains oblivious to the affections that many Konoha females have for him. Ironically, after years of being unable to register Hinata's feelings, Naruto finally acknowledges them and realizes the true nature of his feelings for Hinata being romantic too -- only for ''Hinata'' to remain completely unaware until he finally spits it out.
-->'''Sakura''': He's so dense. I don't think he really understands what the word "love" implies.\\
'''Hinata''': What do you mean?\\
'''Sakura''': He doesn't understand that loving a person romantically is different from liking ''miso ramen''.
* OfficialCouple: Naruto and Hinata. The movie is the story of how they fell in love.
* OfficialKiss: Between [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata, to show that TheyDo become the above trope]].
* OneTrueLove: Though he never fully realized the romantic implications, Naruto has spent his ''entire life'' searching for the one person who would love him in spite of everything that has and will transpire in his life, along with his flaws. He ''wanted'' it to be Sakura, because he saw her feelings for Sasuke, and, being his rival, sought her affections. It's this movie that has him move on from Sakura, and realize that the person he's been searching for all this time is Hinata, who has admired and loved him since the day they first met.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Shikamaru attempts to break Naruto out of his HeroicBSOD by telling him that [[spoiler:since he gave up on Hinata so easily,]] he might as well give up on becoming Hokage. Naruto responds by ''grabbing his friend from the collar'' and angrily asking him if he's looking for a fight. After chewing out Naruto some more for [[spoiler:forgeting about their mission,]] he realizes he can't do anything else and gets Sakura to snap him out of this.
* OrganTheft: Hanabi's eyes [[EyeScream get removed by Toneri]] and transplanted into his eyesockets to become his Tenseigan.
* OutOfCharacterAlert: [[spoiler:Hinata's "rejection", tips off Sakura, who in turn, tells Naruto that its obviously a ruse, that Hinata has a plan up her sleeve in saving Hanabi, and that Hinata isn't that fickle]]. Later, [[spoiler:when Hinata is forced to fight Naruto, her expressionless face tips off Naruto that she is under mind-control, who promptly proceeds to undo the control without harming her]].
* PublicDomainSoundtrack: The film's opening is set to a bagpipes rendition of ''Greensleeves''.
* PurpleIsPowerful: [[spoiler:Hamura's chakra given to Hinata]] glows purple.
* PyrrhicVillainy: Did Toneri manage to steal Hanabi's eyes? Yes. Did he manage to [[spoiler:get Hinata into becoming his bride]]? Yes. Did he [[spoiler:trounce Naruto as adding injury to insult to his (Naruto's) botched confesssion]]? Yes. Does all of this mean that he gets final victory? Nope. [[spoiler:In fact, the fallout of all of his initial successes lay the [[DisasterDominoes groundwork]] to his ultimate defeat.]]
** This is underscored [[spoiler:In the scene where Naruto manages to sever Toneri's hold over Hinata. Toneri pulls Hinata back, uses a strong jutsu to push Naruto against a wall, and then attempts to reestablish control, only for the strain of having his Tenseigan mature to make him reel in pain giving Hinata an opportunity to reunite with Naruto and the two of them to destroy the Tenseigan Core orb.]]
* RedStringOfFate: The red scarf given to Naruto in the movie is from Hinata, as a CallBack and MeaningfulEcho to how his parents eventually fell in love. It's to emphasize that the fates of Naruto and Hinata are tied together in the same way.
* RelationshipUpgrade: For Naruto and Hinata. Pretty much the whole point of the movie.
* ReturningTheHandkerchief: Albeit with a scarf the intent is the same.
* RescueRomance: Hinata first met Naruto when he protected her from some bullies when they were kids. [[spoiler:Now adults, Naruto again saves her, this time from BigBad Toneri, and after the battle, they finally start their relationship]]. It also serves as a MeaningfulEcho to the story of how Naruto's parents fell in love.
* RoaringRampageOfRescue[=/=]StormingTheCastle: In the climax,[[spoiler: the heroes (Sakura, Sai, Shikamaru, & Naruto) storm Toneri's base to rescue the Hyuugas. They accomplish this by splitting into two pairs, Naruto & Shikamaru lead the rescue for Hinata, while Sakura & Sai go for Hanabi.]]
* RomanceArc: The movie is billed as one with Masashi Kishimoto himself saying that the film is about romance and love. Appropriately they hired Tsuneo Kobayashi (known for directing romantic anime) as the film's director.
* RunningGag: Naruto failing to land a hit on Toneri and puppet!Toneri; it just makes the [[ArmorPiercingAttack final]] [[MegatonPunch punch]] that much sweeter.
* SavedByCanon: Seeing as how the DistantFinale of the manga is set well after this film, and the entire main cast is featured in it, by necessity they're going to survive.
* SayMyName: "HINATAAAAA!" by Naruto several times in the movie.
* ScarfOfAssKicking: Hinata has wanted to give Naruto a handmade scarf since she was a young girl. Subverted in that all of the scarfs she makes in the movie eventually get destroyed before Naruto can wear them proper, [[spoiler:but Naruto holds the last scarf's remains while delivering an emotional and powerful [[ArmorPiercingAttack chakra imbued punch]] right on Toneri's face]]. When we do actually see Naruto wear the scarf [[spoiler: right before the BigDamnKiss, it's not actually real, it's actually symbolic of the fact that Hinata's love has ''finally'' reached him. TheStinger, Set years later, shows Hinata knitting a new scarf]].
* SceneryPorn: Toneri's Castle is breathtaking to look at.
* SchizoTech: The Chakra Cannon isn't too hard to swallow, considering it's still basically a ninja weapon, but during [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata's wedding]] Ino has ''a freakin' [=iPhone=]!''
* SealedWithAKiss: [[spoiler:The film ends with Naruto and Hinata sharing their first kiss.]]
* SecondActBreakup
* SecondLove: Hinata, for Naruto. Kishi indicates that this is not only the story of how Naruto and Hinata get together, but how Naruto and Sakura part ways. As he puts it, Sakura was his "first crush," while Hinata is his "first love."
** Played with: according to Sakura, Naruto's affection to her was because [[BirdsOfAFeather they both tried to help each other at getting Sasuke's acknowledgement.]] Naruto believed he was in love with Sakura to indirectly compete with Sasuke, even if he was unaware of it, because Sakura was pretty and had affections for his rival, which made him subconsciously believe that if he managed to win her love, he'd be beating Sasuke. When it comes to Hinata, however, he genuinely fell in love with her with no prompting other than that she was always in love with him, and always there for him, even if he didn't realize it.
* SerialEscalation: Even more so than the Fourth Shinobi World War. And this time, the latest trailer has giant falling rocks that can blow up a planet, FrickinLaserBeams, and Naruto fighting Toneri ''IN SPACE!''
* ShipSinking: WordOfGod even states that this movie is not only the story of Naruto falling in love with Hinata, but it is the story of Sakura & Naruto parting ways.
* ShipperOnDeck: Sakura turns out to be quite the Naruto/Hinata fangirl, assuming a CoolBigSis role towards Hinata and helping Naruto to realize Hinata's feelings and intentions.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Hinata has only ever had eyes for Naruto. As the movie goes on, Naruto starts developing this for Hinata. [[spoiler:It's this fact that allows Sakura to snap Naruto out of his HeroicBSOD in order to rescue her, and after the FinalBattle, Naruto, in his love confession, admits that he wants to spend every single one of his days until he dies with her, and ''only her'']].
* SkilledButNaive: Toneri is a villainous version, he is shown to very skilled with the power that the Tenseigan gives him. But due to a lack of proper battle experience, overconfidence in his own abilities, as well as underestimating his opponents make him this trope. He even [[spoiler:gets a literal [[VisualPun green-horn]] in his SuperMode His inexperience leads to his undoing. In the final battle, he falls for Naruto's clone feints, and that leaves him open to Naruto's ArmorPiercingAttack.]]
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Sasuke may have been DemotedToExtra, but if he hadn't arrived in Konoha when he did with Hiashi in tow, then [[spoiler:the Hokage Monument would have been reduced to dust, Kakashi and countless others would have been killed and the Raikage would have blown up the moon, killing Naruto and co]].
* SmugSuper: Toneri believes that with the doujutsu at his disposal he's invincible. [[spoiler:It takes Naruto beating him and Hinata taking out those eyes (as those were her sister's) to disabuse him of that notion.]]
* SnowMeansLove: Naruto and Hinata first met in a snowy day, [[spoiler:their BigDamnKiss takes place in the snowy sky, and TheStinger has them playing in the snow with their children]].
* TheSociopath: Toneri clearly shows sociopathic tendencies.
* SpeakNowOrForeverHoldYourPeace: The mayhem resulting from [[spoiler:Naruto's BigDamnHeroes moment/RoaringRampageOfRescue manages to interrupt Toneri's attempted marriage to Hinata.]]
* SquishyWizard: Toneri manages to display powerful jutsu with his Tenseigan but suffers from a lack of close combat skills. He does get a SuperMode later and does match Naruto for a time, but it soon becomes clear that even with that new power he is completely unable to last a protracted battle against the equally powerful but more highly trained and experienced Naruto.
* SweetAndSourGrapes: Hinata worked so hard to give Naruto a scarf, only for Toneri to destroy it out of spite. When [[spoiler:its remains were brought to Naruto (who saw how much effort she put into making it) he accepts them anyway, and tells her that he'll cherish them which makes her happy. ]]
* SympathyForTheDevil: Despite everything Toneri has done, Naruto still finds it in him [[spoiler:to save him from a [[BodyHorror painfull and excruciating death]], Hinata for her part shows him the place where his branch family exterminated the main branch explaining why his views were misguided, and they both offer him a chance to return back to Earth with them]].
* TableSpace: Toneri and Hinata dine fine meals while positioned at opposite ends on a long table, while Hinata tries strike a conversation with Toneri on why he shouldn't destroy the earth only for Toneri to shoot it down, symbolizing the "opulent but hollow" aspect of the trope. This in contrast to an earlier scene, Where Hinata and Naruto eat fairly simpler fare yet are seated relatively closer together and are able to talk with one another.
* TearsOfJoy: Hinata tears up when [[spoiler:Naruto affirms his feelings for her in his GrowOldWithMe proposal, happy that her affections have at long last been reciprocated.]]
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Naruto being the Technician to Toneri's performer. Comes up in the climax when they fight each other, Toneri's newly acquired Tenseigan gives him access to a lot of flashy and destructive jutsu. Naruto while not lacking on the flashy himself, by this point employs the skills he acquired from years of fighting experience along with his strength and determination. The Technician wins out as the Toneri's newly acquired abilities couldn't match up to the battle-hardened Naruto. Case in point: Toneri's {{BFS}} lazer gets defeated by a fairly basic move (a chakra imbued fist).
* TimeSkip: The movie takes place about two years after the Fourth Great Shinobi War ends. The film takes place during the winter, while [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata's wedding takes place during springtime (which may or may not be the following spring as implied by supplemental materials).]]
** WordOfGod explained why there is a TimeSkip: [[spoiler:Kishimoto wanted Naruto to be at least 18 (legally an adult) before being married to Hinata.]]
* ThemeTuneCameo: A [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du4ZBGUmYUU reprised version]] of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daPo6q4FXDw the main theme of the the first series]] is used as a RecurringRiff throughout the film. The actual theme itself plays during the final battle.
* TheyDo: [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata, as shown during the closing credits]].
* ThisCannotBe: Toneri is in complete disbelief when [[spoiler:got defeated by Naruto's punch, and when the Tenseigan reverts back into a Byakugan immediately afterward.]]
* [[SwiperNoSwiping Toneri No Destroying]]: Hinata tries to talk-no-jutsu Toneri out of his omnicidal plan twice. One when they are [[spoiler:both having dinner together]] and one [[spoiler:when she is caught red-handed trying to destroy the Tenseigan Core orb, right before Toneri inserts his [[MindControlDevice green orbs]] inside her and [[HypnotizeThePrincess turns her into a mindless puppet]]]]. Given Toneri's OmnicidalManiac and SmugSuper status it's not surprising that it fails both times. It takes [[spoiler:Toneri going through a BreakTheHaughty via a HumiliationConga to finally get him to listen.]]
* TrailersAlwaysSpoil: Thanks to the trailers for the movie being released a few weeks before the manga actually ended, several parts of the manga finale were spoiled, such as the fact that both Naruto and Sasuke survive their final battle, Sasuke fully completing his HeelFaceTurn, Kakashi becoming the 6th Hokage, and (rather subtly) Naruto losing his right arm.
* {{Tritagonist}}: Sakura is this here, as she actively helps Hinata in getting her feelings across to Naruto, she later helps Naruto [[spoiler:out of his depression by giving him an important talk on Hinata's feelings and intentions, and is ultimately the one who rescues Hanabi]]. She even [[spoiler:gets the remains of Hinata's ruined scarf which sets up a heartwarming scene between Naruto and Hinata]].
* TwiceShy: When Naruto realizes the true nature of his feelings for Hinata, they both end up in this situation...as ironic as it is.
* TheUnchosenOne: Despite playing the Chosen One trope straight in the main series Naruto is this here as he stumbled across Toneri's plan via saving Hinata from being abducted by being at the right place at the right time, his growing feelings for Hinata being the driving force of his involvement, with his assistance being instrumental [[spoiler:to Hinata destroying the Tenseigan Core orb, and Toneri's defeat]].
* UnexpectedCharacter: ''Nobody'' expected Killer Bee to appear in the movie!
* UnreliableExpositor: Toneri's explanations are filled with half-truths and biases, painting Hagoromo in the worst possible light while making his brother Hamura out to be the one who needs to put everything back into order by way of genocide. [[spoiler:These claims are later refuted by Hamura himself]]. Furthermore, his argument of using the Tenseigan to punish the world for using chakra for war falls flat when you know that while the shinobi world has undergone war it also went through periods of peace. [[spoiler:It's later revealed that the clans of the moon were wiped out by infighting from using the Tenseigan]].
* UnrequitedLoveSwitcheroo: Not necessarily. While Hinata does still love Naruto, by the start of the movie she has more or less resigned herself to the fact that she will forever be a HopelessSuitor, and thus remains oblivious to Naruto's clearly growing affections for her. When she finally does learn about his feelings, [[spoiler:she's forced to ''reject'' him, not because she doesn't reciprocate, but because she's already resolved herself to accept Toneri's proposal as a ploy to save Hanabi. [[TheyDo Of course, it all works out in the end]]]].
* UnresolvedSexualTension: Naruto and Hinata, for most of the movie. In fact, some of the dialogue implies that it's been going on for longer than that -- Naruto's ObliviousToLove status meant that he didn't realize that many of his interactions with Hinata had romantic implications. The purpose of this film is to ''finally'' resolve it.
* VillainBall:
** Toneri holds this when Naruto confronts him in his base, [[spoiler:ordering a brainwashed Hinata to fight Naruto as a display of his power and thinking that Naruto couldn't bear fighting the one that he loves.]] Instead Naruto uses this as an opportunity to [[spoiler:rescue Hinata by breaking Toneri's hold over her. The two of them then destroy the Tenseigan Core orb making Toneri's eventual defeat assured. ]]
** In their final fight, while Hinata is [[spoiler:[[DamselInDistress locked in a cage]]]] Toneri could have easily defeated Naruto by using his [[ManaDrain Chakra Drain]] on him. Instead he opts to have a big flashy CockFight with him in order to test his Tenseigan and brutally kill Naruto in [[ForcedToWatch front of Hinata]]. [[spoiler: It doesn't end very well for him -- see the HumiliationConga entry.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: By the end of the film, Toneri goes through one. It starts when he [[spoiler:goes to the Tenseigan Core orb only to find it destroyed by Naruto and Hinata, His composure starts to crumble but its not until after he loses his fight against Naruto, and Hinata reclaiming Hanabi's stolen eyes that he completely loses it and becomes unhinged.]]
* VillainousCrush: It's implied Toneri has one on Hinata. And if you look [[http://images.saiyanisland.com/showphoto.php?photo=16061 here,]] both of them are dressed in wedding attire.
* [[HeroicRROD Villainous RROD]]: Toneri suffers blackouts and seizures as a side effect of acquiring the Tenseigan.
* WartsAndAll: Several scenes in the movie show that Hinata loves Naruto for who he is, not for the hero he is supposed to be. Which makes sense; Naruto spent his entire life trying to be acknowledged by the entire village, yet remained blind to Hinata, who has loved and admired him from the very beginning. Hinata loved him long before he became the hero the world at large admired, and not once did her heart ever stray to anyone else.
* WeaponOfMassDestruction: The Tenseigan Core orb has [[spoiler:wiped out almost everyone on the moon]]. Toneri's Tenseigan also counts. In the climactic final fight [[spoiler:it turn into a {{BFS}} which cleaves the freaking moon in half]]!
* WeddingSmashers: [[spoiler:In the climax, our heroes crash in on Toneri's wedding. Averted however for Naruto and Hinata's wedding, as it goes off without a hitch.]]
* WeddingsInJapan: [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata opt for a Shinto ceremony as their wedding. This explains why their second kiss takes place during their reception as Shinto weddings don't have the bride & groom kiss each other.]]
* WhamShot: During a dream sequence/flashback of the day when Iruka asked his students who they'd want to spend their last day with, the adult version of Naruto notices that Hinata wrote his name down. This should not come as a surprise to the audience, but it does come as a shock to Naruto.
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: Naruto himself, but only applied to romantic feelings. It functions as the final lesson he has to learn in order to fully move on from his depressing childhood and live a happy, fulfilling life. Thus, when he finally gets an answer, he can't look Hinata in the eye afterwards, as it becomes clear to him that she is the one with the unconditional love he has been searching for.
* WalkingTheEarth: Sasuke Uchiha has been doing this. [[spoiler:He still stops by Kohona to destroy a giant meteor as a favor to Naruto.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist:
** Toneri claims to be this as he states that he is upset with the wars mankind has caused and fought in using chakra; thus he wants to "punish" them according to Hamura's decree [[spoiler: He's deluded, his branch distorted Hamura's decree, and Hamura himself telling Hinata that he never wanted to destroy the world his brother developed.]].
** The Fourth Raikage, A plays this straight. His plan to blow up the moon as a last resort makes perfect sense from a pragmatic standpoint - but doing so while a Hyuuga and several Leaf ninja are on there is met with understandable derision from some of Naruto's allies.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: In the credits scene [[spoiler:showing Naruto and Hinata's wedding, Sasuke is notably absent. ''Why'' he would miss his best friend's wedding is anyone's guess, and many fans are making a ruckus over it. The closest explanation the movie provides it that as soon as the threat to Konoha had passed, Sasuke went back on whatever journey he set for himself]].
* WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue: A two-page manga set after the events of the movie, detailing [[spoiler:Naruto and Hinata's first date.]]
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Toneri has medium-length white hair, and is the main villain of the movie.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: The entire point of the movie is to answer the question of whether or not Naruto and Hinata will get together -- a question that has been there since nearly the beginning of the series. Although for people who read the ending of the manga, this is ForegoneConclusion: [[spoiler:TheyDo]].
* WorfHadTheFlu: Due to having just recovered from a near-fatal chakra drain, Naruto was left unable to use the Six Paths mode he used against Kaguya when fighting against Toneri. [[spoiler:True to form Naruto manages to win despite this because he still had a great amount of chakra to fall back on and he is a seasoned fighter, having years of battle experience on his side]].
* XanatosSpeedChess: Hinata's original plan [[spoiler:in destroying the Tenseigan Core orb was to wait for Toneri to drop his guard while she covertly went to where the orb was held in order to destroy it. It hit a snag when she gets caught and ends up hypnotized. She later gets freed by Naruto and she takes advantage of Toneri going through a seizure to resume her original plan and does so but her attacks do little damage. She then accepts Naruto's assistance, and they both perform a CombinationAttack which manages to destroy the orb, fulfilling her objective.]]
