Following the success of ''Anime/{{Little Witch Academia|2013}}'' and its sequel, ''[[Anime/LittleWitchAcademiaTheEnchantedParade The Enchanted Parade]]'', Creator/StudioTrigger [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-06-24/trigger-little-witch-academia-gets-tv-anime-series/.103587 announced]] the production of a full-length anime series based on the short films directed by Yoh Yoshinari. ''Little Witch Academia'' aired from January 8 to June 25, 2017 for a total of 25 episodes. The series acts as an ContinuityReboot for the franchise and does things a bit differently from the films, but the overarching premise is similar.

When she was a young girl, Atsuko "Akko" Kagari attended a magic show by the witch Shiny Chariot and became enamored with Chariot's ability to spark joy in her audience. Some years later, Akko arrives at Luna Nova, a prestigious [[WizardingSchool academy for witches]], in an attempt to follow in her idol's footsteps. But because she was [[MageBornOfMuggles raised in a non-magical family]], Akko is out of place in wizarding society and has very little natural aptitude for sorcery. And to her dismay, she learns that her idol Chariot is not regarded highly in the magical world, which considers her magic cheap party tricks.

But in true PluckyGirl fashion, Akko doesn't let these deter her -- even if her haughty classmate Diana disapproves, Akko still has her friends Lotte and Sucy and her CoolTeacher Ursula by her side. Things begin to change, however, when Akko discovers Chariot's old wand, the Shiny Rod, which she can use with surprising aptitude even as [[TheMagicGoesAway magic everywhere begins to decline]]...

The series is available on Creator/{{Netflix}}. For tropes pertaining to the franchise as a whole, see ''Anime/LittleWitchAcademia''.

* SuckySchool: Downplayed. Luna Nova isn't outright awful, but its made apparent that the decline of magic has not had a good effect on the school, as it suffers from constant financial problems and fears of shutting down, which forces them to downscale some things or make changes just to stay on a reasonable budget, such as serving only potatoes. It doesn't help that many of the older teachers (especially Finnelan) are traditionalist to a fault and are often opposed to change and making the updates needed to keep Luna Nova up to date with the times, meaning they rely a lot on old technology to get things done (for example, instead of having a washing machine, clothes are hand-washed with a washboard) and until Croix's arrival, had banned the use of modern technology on campus.
