Official Verdict on Season Three of Teen Wolf: Idiot Plot
Yeah, the action scenes, the scenery, the color tones and all of that were good. But the writing was just AWFUL!
The villains were all one-dimensional, with only the prospect of a Heel Face Turn making Aiden and Ethan remotely interesting. Deucalion ran solely on Evil Is Hammy. Anytime he was trying to be more understated he just came across as a Blind Weaponmaster, Evil Brit, Suspiciously Similar Substitute for season one Peter Hale. It was like this was an RPG and they just swapped out some Merits and Flaws on a character sheet. Ennis was just The Brute. Kali was a stock Dark Action Girl, complete with a Names To Run Away From Really Fast to go with her Ambiguously Brown ethnicity. Jennifer was Woobie Destroyer Of Worlds due to upset over her Nightmare Face.
In order to keep the plot running, because it was actually not all that deep, Poor Communication Kills was in full effect. Most of the bad things that happened were enabled by the simple failure of everybody on the heroic side to compare notes. This despite the fact that they had it beaten into them in seasons one and two what a problem this could be.
Ultimately a letdown. The season needed more actual conversation between the characters onscreen. Too many key conversations definitely did happen, but were not shown. Too many relationship issues were setup between characters, and then either resolved offscreen or else not addressed at all.
The season could have been a lot better. But Jeff Davis confuses ambiguity with deep writing, when in reality it is lazy writing. The Hand Wave got used to deal to with virtually any and all questions that required closer scrutiny in the storyline.
Lots of great action scenes of roaring werewolves. Not much else.
Pretty much agree with everything you said, though I think I had a bit more fun with the season than you. Will be uploading a review in a few minutes.

Pros and Cons of "Lunar Eclipse"
I thought for this episode, I would take pros/cons notes while watching so it's a bit different than normal.
Pros:
Amazing cinematography and music choice that lead to an amazing opening tonally
Twins switch sides (but their motives aren't fully explained)
I love every line the parents said
Peter is so manipulative - it's delightful
Funny lines still, through all this chaos
Isaac is snarky and heroic
Lydia, everything about her (she reminds me a little of Stiles actually)
Scott's dad is very interesting to me
Kali VS Jennifer!
I know people don't like Jen's obession with her looks, but I think it has to do with her struggle with finding identity
Twins vs Jennifer!

I thought the bath thing was supposed to make them SURROGATE SACRIFICES??? What happened to that? What happened to the supposed 'darkness' that would be in them???
Derek and Cora running away like babies. They seriously left all these KIDS for DEAD? What about Jennifer, the alphas and the parents? Derek's just like 'nope, not my responsibility, gonna skip town now!' I HATE HIM RIGHT NOW. I guess they came back, but STILL, them running in the middle of the episode is pointless and stupid
Confused about Werewolf healing in regards to Kali - I swear Derek has come back from much worse than glass
Why do they just sit around talking to Agent Mc Call? Lives were at stake - they could have gotten out of there much faster
Deucalion is the worst villain yet on this show
Deucalion should have been dead from Jen bashing in his head when he doesn't have healing powers
There's a lack of Lydia, Stiles and Danny from this episode
Whatever went on between Derek and Jennifer, I refuse to accept it. It was such BS

PS: The episode, like this season, was this bizarre mix of amazing and bullshit .
