Made a page for Scribe: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/LetsPlay/Scribe
I know the mods won't see it, but someone needs to do a page for Sylphid. He's done full and complete L Ps for the Atelier series starting with the Arland trilogy, Atelier Ayesha as well as Record of Agarest War 2. Currently, he's working on Assassin's Creed Revelations.
Hide / Show RepliesWell, if someone comes across and knows the work well enough to make a page, they can do so.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow about Quill 18? I think that he's good enough to has his own page.
Hide / Show RepliesWell, if you want to start a page, feel free to do so at LetsPlay.Quill 18. Make sure that you apply How to Create a Work's Page.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanRecommendations have been removed per TRS, and the page's been unlocked.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm wondering why it is Bobbin Threadbare hasn't gotten his own entry in this section. He's done extensive L Ps of the Quest For Glory series, the Thief series and his most recent ones have been for Academagia and Alpha Protocol.
Arguably THE first "Let's Play"(as we know it today) was done by Russian writer Vladimir Vasilyev in 2001 in form of the book "UFO: Enemy Unknown". (And yep, it's copyright infringement of X-COM series at it's best) With every "Let's Play" aspect including: the walk-through, comments about occurring events, etc, etc. Basically it's a regular Let's Play but only in text form.
Let's Play isn't a trope. Yet, I see it in several game pages, where really, it should be in the trivia section at most.
Hide / Show RepliesIt's actually more of a (derivative) Genre in and of itself, like MST.
Who else thinks that Madamewario needs to have her own page?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I was thinking of adding some Let's play from Nico Nico Douga but I'm not sure where I should put them or even if a new section should be done for Nico Nico Douga as they have quite a lot of Let's Play there. Yes, I know that they are mostly in Japanese but that's what make them interesting, especially when stuff like No Export for You, Bad Export for You, Difficulty by Region and Bowdlerise are in full effect.
Edited by MewseekerSince this page is still a mess, if nobody has any objections I'm going to try and make at least the first folder somewhat organized. I was thinking of listing them alphabetically by game (y'know, like it says on the page itself) with the name first, since sorting by L Per makes it difficult to quickly find a game you're looking for. I'm not entirely sure what to do with L Pers with multiple L Ps though, seems silly to scatter them if somebody likes that person's particular style. Was thinking of something like "Other Let's Plays by <Let's Player>: <list of that person's L Ps listed on the page>" as a note in small letters under the game in question, and then have the actual Let's Plays of those games and their detailed descriptions where they belong.
I think the page has also been bloated by all the separate comments describing a single aspect of each LP, but since I obviously haven't read through every single one, I can't know which ones are relevant and which aren't. We'll see.
Either way, it's quite a bit of work, so any good ideas are welcome (maybe more/different kind of folders or somesuch).
Hide / Show RepliesWorked my way from A to E so far, looks a lot better even if I say so myself. Sorted alphabetically by game, name first in bold letters, followed by the description/comment and the link(s) to the LP(s) in question within. If a Let's Player has multiple L Ps, I've added the other ones as a smaller note in an "Also from x:" -form under everything else, either as a list or a link to the LP Archive (since that's the folder I'm working on) in some cases.
I just might regret this.
How does bikdiponabus not have his own page? I'm not really an editor, much less a page-maker, but...seriously, someone get on that! For that matter, Brynnagiadrosich(Bikdip's Girlfriend/co-L Per) should be on here too!
Does "No Such Thing as Notability" apply to Shameless Self Promotion?
Because if it doesn't, there's a whole pile of pages at the bottom that really shouldn't be there.
Hide / Show RepliesIt doesn't apply, but all of the pages are put together by the fans, not the L Per in question.
Is it time to make a Let's Play Index? There are already pages for Sonic2006 and Sonic 2 Special Edition, and there are likely other pages, so it would be more convenient if they were compiled.
Hide / Show RepliesHow would it be indexed by? There's already a good chance that any video game has been LPed, and not all LPers have trope/work pages yet.
And how do you describe an LP? If we're talking a Raocow LP then it's a bit easier because his style is so distinctive. But if we're talking a normal LP then it probably just warrants a mention on the game's original page, because the LP may not stand on its own as a work very well.
At this point in time the page has become simply a list of dozens of Let's Play examples, with no way to tell which are any good or not. Beyond the first fifth of the page they degenerate into "NAME and his girlfriend NAME 2 have a number of funny L Ps, including GAME X and GAME Y. Check them out!", with no attempt to link to the rest of TV Tropes. I suggest removing the page entirely and replacing it with a link to The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing; this appears to be the only example worth saving.
Hide / Show RepliesIn fact, about half-way through the page the examples turn into little adverts for the people making the walkthroughs, rather than the walkthroughs themselves.
If it links to the LP archive it's generally legit. But I agree with you about everything else.
What is the term for a video game playthrough that contains neither audio commentary nor subtitles? Examples are DerfsonicGaming (formerly known as Derf Sonic) and Blitzmage.
Hide / Show RepliesWhat's the point of this page? It's not a trope. If this site called "Something Awful" has fans making a wiki article about their favorite site, can I make an article about mine? (it's mainstream to me!)
> due to the Something Awful forums
I'd call Older than You Think on that too. I'm sure they didn't popularize gameplay videos.
Edited by 70.142.50.36 Hide / Show RepliesWe have plenty of pages that aren't tropes. Gameplay videos? It was originally talking about screenshot let's plays then video let's plays arose.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more! You know, has anyone ever heard of Draygone's Let's Plays of games made with RPG Maker 1-3? http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/showthread.php?s=14ac94c05c0c60092809c3683347e790&t=23880 He has some great work, albeit not on the Something Awful Forums, rather a very obscure forum that I'm part of, the RPG Maker Pavilion.
I'm trying to understand the order of the Let's Plays on the page...and I don't think there is one. Perhaps each section should be alphabetized by game or player? It may make adding future examples easier in the long run.
Hide / Show RepliesIt probably would behoove the page, yes. Do it by game order if you are so inclined, as that would make far more sense with a folder-controlled page than L Per order.
See you in the discussion pages.I think we should organize this alphabetically By the Let's Player. Some of the recommendations have more than one game and it painful to reorganize those if we're doing it by game instead of the person or people.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!I suggest we agree on the order before the rest get handled. What do the rest of you think?
I think some of these examples need to be removed as they're not that great. Or put a your milage may vary somewhere in the intro.
Edited by Marioguy128 You got some dirt on you. Here's some more! Hide / Show RepliesYMMV is now in the intro. I don't like all the L Ps listed on the page either, but that's my subjective opinion, and I don't think that an individual troper should have the final say on whether they're "great" enough to be listed here or not. No Such Thing As Notability and all that.
Corgis are a Welsh bread. I'm delicious. Why don't add a rule against that?
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more! Why can't we have a so bad it's horrible section admin? So are genuinely bad. Unless we can Darth Wiki it of course
Edited by gyrobot Hide / Show RepliesWhy are the Freelance Astronauts being moved to the So Bad, It's Good / So Bad Its Horrible section? There are other tropers who disagree and anyone who moves them back to the proper section are automatically accused of vandalism despite there being edit reasons that detail the move to the proper section.
Edited by Marioguy128 You got some dirt on you. Here's some more! Hide / Show RepliesNow he decided to just move them to the bottom of the page for no reason.
Edited by 190.50.180.175Which doesn't make sense since they're from Something Awful. I'm moving them back, and they better stay there this time.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Apparent Edit War in the works over the Chorocojo Pokemon Platinum LP link. On the one hand, I think it's a fair cop to link to ongoing LPs on SA, but on the other hand, it's Fast Eddie himself dropping the hammer on it.
As someone who plunked down the "tenbux" almost solely to get my LP fix on, I can't exactly see how "it's a valid link, but it counts as broken if Tropers can't access the content within" is proper protocol and/or logic. LPs spend about four weeks on free view, one week off, if my last count before registering is correct, and I think we can keep the link as is (along with several others still going to the SA copies rather than LP Archive copies) if we put a disclaimer about this next to the core SA Let's Play forum link or something. Thoughts?
Hide / Show RepliesOur audience is the entire Web, not just the SA folks. In fact, the SA folks probably already have links to whatever interests them at SA. If the other links are also broken, they should be zapped, too.
Edited by FastEddie Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAlright. All the links to SA threads are removed. If someone really misses something I've removed, they can re-add it.
If the link was an SA thread, odds are it's an ongoing LP which hasn't been archived yet. I haven't actually checked, but I imagine it'll be a little while before archive links show up.
I don't understand the logic behind this decision. The majority of the time, Let's Plays are freely available to the general public (I don't have a Something Awful account, and I follow several religiously). SA has a BS, in my opinion, policy, of denying access to encourage people to pay the ten bucks on occasion. That doesn't change the fact that the majority of the time, the links are good and useful. What's the problem here?
My Blog thingI agree with Rogue7. I don't have an SA account, but I could access the Platinum LP thread during the last few days. Couldn't today though for some reason.
Should we make a new section for Penny Arcade forum L Pers? There seems to be quite a few of them, but some might consider it not enough.
Also perhaps we should move all the Youtube only L Pers to its own section too. Just to make it more organised.
Hide / Show RepliesI would be one of those people who wouldn't consider it enough. I'm also the same guy that removed the Codex Playground link, for the same reason. I realise TINSTAN, but that list could go for miiiiiiles, and it's not even that actual focus of the page.
I'm a supporter of splitting YT only L Pers into their own section, but given that there's so many of them on the page that the actual outcome won't look all that different anyway.
Edit: Yeah, the only real effect that would be is renaming "other examples" to "You Tube L Pers", and moving a few names into a new "Other Examples" section.
Edited by somestrangeflea
Is there a clean-up thread for this? The note says "do not add this page to a work's trope list. No matter how famous the LPer behind it, the fact that a game has had a Let's Play of it is Not a Trope.", but there are tons wicks that contain "X did an episode on this".
