The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Find a Trope:
openReduced to Fisticuffs
Do we have a trope for when two characters who have long been at odds are finally reduced to beating on each other? I'm thinking of a circumstance like the one Watson imagined for Holmes and Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls; their conflict had been purely intellectual for a long time, but when they finally confronted each other they ended up in a physical fight.
openHe Hates YOU, Not Us
This was the vibe I was getting from the 1952 film "High Noon" starring Gary Cooper. Like when Cooper's character tries to seek help from the townspeople to stop Frank Miller, the man he put in jail years ago and escaped to get revenge. However, most of the townspeople refuses and based on my perspective, it seemed like they felt like Miller was mostly going after Cooper's character and not them. Like how in one episode of Spongebob Squarepants when Mr. Krabs suggests Spongebob fires Pearl from the Krusty Krab, saying "It's okay if SHE hates YOU,"
openBig tech CEO guy
A CEO of a large tech company (think Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk), who is often a Corrupt Corporate Executive.
openKiller Doctor
Right, so Deadly Doctor is someone who fights with a medical motif while Mad Doctor is someone who conducts horrific experiments. But do we have a trope about serial killers who are doctors? Or does that fall under a different trope entirely?
openTitle song
I know we have Title Track for albums, but do we have a trope for when there's a song in a work that shares an official title with the work? It's very common in musical theater.
openReferencing the works of the same creator
When a work references something else the creator did. For example, in Knuffle Bunny, I listed this as Company Cross References (it's written by the same author as the Pigeon books) but I'm not sure it fits as this isn't really a "company":
- Company Cross References: One of the minor characters in the animated short has a T-shirt with the Pigeon on it.
Another page listed something similar as Mythology Gag, but in that case it's not part of the same franchise.
Edited by mightymewtronopenElite Redshirts
A group of soldiers or monsters or warriors or whatever is said to be the best of the best, the creme de la creme. Except they're just as useless as every other redshirt out there.
openEavesdropping Reveal
When Bob, who has been eavesdropping on a conversation, makes himself known by adding to it. See Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and the first episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch
openThe Chosen One but only because nobody else was left
The Chooser of the One typically has a trial to determine who The Chosen One is. However, the people who used to do this no longer undergo the trial, and haven't for a long time. The Chooser then had to use a loophole by waiting until there was only one person left from the pool (IE, this person is the strongest by virtue of being #1 out of a group of 1) to determine a new Chosen One. What does this fall under?

I started noticing one particular camera angle that i suspect to be a trope. Instead of explaining it, here are two most famous works i noticed it in :

Sorry for the quality, but i hope you get the idea. Is there a trope for such a specific shot?
Edited by BladeDownopenUnwanted Childhood Lessons
I'm assuming we must have a trope for this, but I can't think of what the name would be and can't find it.
What would describe when a kid is forced into taking lessons for something they don't want, because their parents insist they learn how to play sports or the piano or something?
openFew tropes
1. Character that tempt other character to do something evil. Example: https://youtu.be/heUnljdse5Q?t=84 2. Character that copies style of his idol. Example: Rock Lee (Naruto) copies Guy, Josuke (Jo Jo's Bizarre Advunture) copies his saviour.
openHostile to the new guy
Do we have a trope about characters un-universe being hostile to a new cast member?
openNon-Romantic Third Wheel?
So, I'm adding tropes for a series that has a Five Man Band. Frequently during the series, four of the group team up in various combinations, but the fifth one only teams up for, like, 5 minutes in 2 episodes up until the final arc. I thought about applying that for the Third Wheel trope, but that's a romantic trope. Is there one that's similar but not for romance?
openJumpscare enemy
A usually not really dangerous video game enemy that has the habit of horrifying the player (hiding in dark corners, turning invisible, teleporting etc) by suddenly appearing.
openLimited wishing
Someone or something's wishing power is finite, and can only grant a specific amount.
openOne-Gimmick Game
Games like Little Inferno and EAT: THE REVOLUTION, where the player can really only do one thing throughout the game until reaching the end. Usually to make an artistic statement or to be experimental- especially since the player's only choice is to either keep doing the thing or to stop playing.
Some Work Coms have one annoying character who buys completely into the corny corporate ideology, contrasting to the more level-headed characters, who think it's just a crappy job and try to get through the day. This guy is the work equivalent of the school-loving Nerd who loves company retreats, obeys all nonsensical rules (and tattles on those who don't) and even enjoys the company's product during his free time - sometimes exclusively.
Is there a trope for that guy?
