Find a Trope:
openLuddite Ball
A character in a work set in the 21st century, who has been shown to have access modern IT solutions and knows how to use them. However, for plot purposes, they fall back to an "old school" solution for something so it can blow up in their face. A sample I can think of is in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls where Sunset Shimmer has been shown to be able to make an attack ad video, and upload it, in one evening. However, when she fakes pictures to make it look like Twilight trashed the ballroom, she printed the photos and physically cut & pasted them. Which allowed Flash Sentry to find the discarded parts of the fakes.
Edited by AlexThePrettyGoodopenSmack through it
When someone smack someone else with something and it go through their head/got broken down.
Example: Alice is very mad at Bob. She found a briefcase, so she smacked bob with it. The briefcase go through bob's head / bob makes a hole in the briefcase with his head
Edited by AmateurartistopenPhone hang up from desinterest, pressing the hook after getting disconnected Live Action TV
Looking for two phone tropes, often paired:
Person in view calls someone, with an unconvincing proposition of some sorts. Other party shows disinterest by suddenly hanging up during the person's explanation or description, resulting in the person in view thinking there's some technical issue with the connection. Responding with 'hello? hello?' and looking at the phone too. Usually a comedy device.
When using a fixed phone it's followed by the person pressing the hook a few times, which is also a separate trope imho as it's also used when the phone is actually disconnected due to technical issues (as in Cut Phone Lines trope, but then mid-conversation). To me it seems natural to say 'hello?' but not to press the hook as it is usually the way to disconnect rather than reconnect and thus would work counter-productive.

openIntroducing many characters in quick succession
Sort of relating to my previous query with the same video example but when I tried to make it in one query it turned up with nothing so I'm splitting them up
In Ejen Ali Season 2 Episode 2 (Mission: Orientation), just like What It Says On The Tin, the protagonist is given an orientation to the agency's academy, being introduced to the other young agents attending there. This all happens in the span of the first three minutes of the episode.
Edited by BlackFaithStaropenVariant of "I Thought Everyone Could Do That", or its own thing?
Is there a variant of "I Thought Everyone Could Do That" for when somebody knows average citizens can't do X but overestimates how well someone was trained to do X? E.g. expecting every pilot to be an Ace Pilot or expecting every lifeguard to have enough stamina to do a gazillion chest compressions (instead of just a few more than normal) on a drowned person.
Original description: The average most-likely-out-of-shape civilian trying to do CPR can only do so many chest compressions before they get tired. Lifeguards, probably in somewhat decent shape, can do some more chest compressions than the average civilian. A Jumped at the Call hero with self-inflicted Training from Hell outperforms both the civilians and the lifeguards at chest compressions, doesn't expect the civilians to be able to do as many chest compressions, but berates the lifeguards with "What do you mean, you can't keep up with me? You call yourselves lifeguards? Disgraceful!"
How does this scenario relate to "I Thought Everyone Could Do That"? Is it some manner of playing with that trope? If so, how is it played with? If not, could it be its own trope?
Edited by Miss_DesperadoopenAdaptation can't catch up? Anime
We have Overtook the Manga for when the adaptation goes faster than the manga does, but is there an inverse trope for when the anime is slower to catch up with the manga? No Undertook the Manga equivalent?
openBurning the Map/Crushing the Globe
A villain expresses their desire to take over/destroy the world. They make this point excessively clear by damaging or destroying a pictorial representation of said world; burning/stabbing/tearing a map, smashing a globe, etc.
openOther Are Better
Using Other System/Technology Because it look better even that are supported Example:X Using LA Version Game Because it Lighter than BL Version
openTitle name in character debut
A new character has his name appear on-screen. Of course, only the audience can see it.
Edited by BlackFaithStaropenHilarious in Other Language
A Name Which normal in that language but hilarious in other language
openOutdone By Friend
Bob is some kind of loser or Butt-Monkey and has a difficult event before him (audition, job interview, contest, etc.). He asks Alice to accompany him for moral support. But during the event, Alice is the one who gets the reward Bob was going for (usually with no effort on her part), with Bob barely being acknowledged at all. Often he becomes The Resenter because of this, regardless of whether Alice protests that Bob is the one they should be paying attention to.
Edited by Chabal2open"I've already won! Now die!" Proceeds to Lose trope Anime
The villain thinks that they're about to win the battle, and therefore boasts about how they've already achieved victory, only for their asses to be kicked shortly after.
resolved Minor character with implied bizarre background Live Action TV
A recurring extra is given a few lines or a minor plot thread in a long-running show, and the joke is he has knowledge and/or skills that suggest a freaky backstory, like being in witness protection or on the run from the mob/cops, having Once Killed a Man with a Noodle Implement, being Ambiguously Human, being incongruosuly intelligent (or having a Worthless Foreign Degree), having extreme or incomprehensible beliefs, et cetera. Sometimes happens to an Ascended Extra.
Edited by Mac_RopenWhat Could Have (not) Been?
The opposite of What Could Have Been, like an actor almost turning down their most iconic role.
Edited by arimediumopenGrappling hook creature
A creature moves around via a body part that functions like a grappling hook.
openPReviously unused footage finds a new purpose
Sort of a subversion (I know it can't be subverted but it's the closest way to describe it) of What Could Have Been.
Specifically referring to a promo clip filmed for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, which was filmed in 2016 with the assumption that Hilary Clinton would win the election but went unused. However, she managed to repost the clip with new context for the 2020 Election instead.
Is there a Trivia item or something for this kind of scenario?
openYou're the only one who thinks that
A character in a group says something, clearly expecting everyone to agree. Then it turns out that no, the character is the only one in the group to think that.
In Kaamelott, King Arthur laughs at one of the knights for not speaking Latin... then realizes, as the other knights just look blankly at him, that none of them speak Latin either (this after several years of Arthur starting the Round Table meetings with a Latin prayer).
Is there a trope for when one character is worried or scared about something and another character lightly teases them about it? How it happens is that the first character expresses some worry about a situation and the second says something that sounds like it's supposed to be calming, but intentionally makes the first more worried.
For example, Ron White has a bit in his stand up routine where he tells the story of the time he took a flight on a small plane that had to turn back due to a mechanical issue. He's so drunk he doesn't care, but the guy next to him freaks out.
Passenger: Hey, man! Hey, man! What if the engine burns out? How far can the other one take us?
Ron: All the way to the scene of the crash. Which is pretty handy because that's where we're going.
