Read through "Some Day My Prince Will Come 3". The general creepiness is getting annoying. Also, it seems like Fujiko is such an Expy of Kyosuke just as an excuse to recycle Kyosuke-related plotlines. If this doesn't get better soon, I might stop reading it.

I stopped reading this for a while, but I'm reading it again for some reason. The "Aoi Festival — Teleporting Around Kyoto" arc is pretty funny so far, if a bit Fillery.

In "A Challenge from PANDRA", the plot starts moving again. The Clark Kenting is getting a little too blatant.

Does it seem like I complain about something in every post? It's funny: it seems like whatever I complain about will suddenly be less of a problem in the next chapter or so, but then I realize another issue I have with this series. Of course, not all of my "complaints" are entirely serious; I realize that the Clark Kenting is mostly Rule of Funny. This brings me to my real issue with this series lately: it isn't serious enough. Remember when PANDRA was a serious threat that gave nuclear weapons to Islamic fundamentalist terrorists? Now they're into illegal advertising and petty slander. Of course, now that I've complained about it, something SERIOUS will probably happen soon. According to the trope page for Zettai Karen Children, there's an organization called Black Phantom that will show up later. They seem like they might be a Knight of Cerebus.

Runaway 1 was a great chapter!

  • The SERIOUS elements return when Fujiko gives Minamoto a weapon to kill Kaoru with if necessary.
  • We learn that Kyosuke isn't omnipotent: he seems to be terminally ill, and Muscle Okama suggests that for Kyosuke, getting his underlings out of the Cardboard Prison isn't as simple as getting himself out.
  • Amusingly, Okama's Boss Subtitles say "Full Muscle Alchemist". Is he a parody of Alex Louis Armstrong?

Turns out Muscle Okama isn't Armstrong! He's Greed!

I'm starting to suspect that this setting is Alternate History rather than 20 Minutes into the Future.

Mio is undergoing some interesting Character Development. Was "Next time I'll kill her" serious or just a case of Ineffectual Death Threats? Only time will tell.

You mean the psychic squad in WW 2 didn't make you think alternate history?

I intially assumed it was a combination of Plausible Deniability and You Fail History Forever, but now Alternate History makes more sense.

"His Majesty's Children" was an interesting storyline. After reading it, I realized that a lot of what struck me as "creepy" was supposed to be creepy; Kaoru is really pretty messed up. Or am I Completely Missing The Point?

"Zettai Karen Wild Cat" was another silly arc. Now I've begun "Cherished Day", which in set in THE FUTURE. Apparently Kaoru has done a Heel–Face Turn, but Aoi and Shiho haven't. There's a very good chance this will turn out to be Not The Real Future.

Wild Mass Guessing time:

  • In earlier chapters where Minamoto is shown visions of THE FUTURE, he notices that he hasn't aged. This is either because Minamoto has a latent ESP power that will keep him youthful, or because someone else (probably Kyosuke or Fujiko) is using their own power to keep him young.
  • The "Cherished Day" arc will turn out to be All Just a Dream, either Minamoto's or Kaoru's (since she saw THE FUTURE is "A Shallow Dream", she knows what her future self looks like).

I forgot to mention the silly outfits! "His Majesty's Children" has four: the cocktail dresses worn by The Children (cool-looking until they step out of the barrier and revert to looking their age) and the Sri Lankan  *

Miko's Battle Bikini (which is riduculous under any circumstances).

Oh yeah, I was wrong about THE FUTURE. It seems it was the real future, or at least an alternate future, but there's enough ambiguity that Kaoru might not have actually become Kyosuke's Dragon.

"Vestiges" explains some hinted-at backstory for Minamato, but not much comes of it beyond a Space Whale Tear Jerker and an interesting moment where Minamoto sees The Children with wings...angel-like wings. Is this a sign of Minamoto's latent Precog powers?

"Black Phantom" was an AWESOME arc. Cerebus Syndrome kicks in, a memorable fight scene, Kyosuke is shown to be beatable, Kaoru's wings are explained, we understand why Kaoru is so important to Kyosuke's plan, and probably other AWESOME things I forgot to mention. Is this the Growing the Beard you were talking about, Clarste?

Pretty much, but lately it's reverted a bit so I'm not as interested as I used to be.

"Be My Friend" was pretty good too. The Xanatos Gambit aspect combined with Kaoru being Eaten By A Snake for a while meant that Black Phantom remains a serious threat even with Kaoru's new ability. A question about the ending: is Minamoto really $99 million in debt to the government or were they just kidding around? I'm tentatively assuming the latter.

The end of "The Lunch Incident" was a Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming. Shiho was pretty cool in "Lord of the Flies".

"Say Hello to Princess Mononoke" was kind of meh. The fight with the narwhal was really overdone. At least they introduced a commander for The Hound.

I've just begun "Those Espers and Cruelty". It seems that the author hasn't forgotten Problem 666...

This flashback is interesting, although it doesn't fit the "Short Term Serial" chapters very well. Seeing what a jerk Kaoru used to be again makes me realize how much Character Development she's undergone.

I'm back! I've been too busy to read ZKC for a while, but I just finished "Those Espers and Cruelty". It was pretty good, and it explains Kaoru's behavior in the early chapters to a degree.

Unfortunately, One Manga is shutting down soon. Anyone know somewhere else where I can read this comic?

Edit: "The Notebook That Causes Things to Come True" was an amusing spoof of Death Note, but it had one plot-important reprecussion: Kyosuke can no longer be detected by BABEL. I'm starting to see that the Myth Arc is progessing more than I had thought.

"Phantom Menace" was interesting for two reasons.

  • Kaoru's Force of Absolution doesn't fully break a Black Phantom agents mind control for once, either because Aoi and Shiho were too far away or because Black Phantom is developing countermeasures.
  • We're reminded that Kyosuke is, in fact, supposed to be evil.

"Over the Future" was pretty interesting. In a sense, Kyosuke comes very close to winning and losing at the same time, but ends up doing neither. It was a bit annoying that such a dramatic event would still take the form of Kyosuke screwing around with Minamoto's mind some more, though.

The arc ends with a abrupt Time Skip. I guess that's a good thing; it could allow the plot to go in several different interesting directions.

Zettai Karen Children Drinking Game:

  • Whenever someone messes with Minamoto's mind, take a sip.
  • Whenever Kyosuke abruptly switches from a serious antagonist to a Harmless Villain, or vice versa, take a sip.
  • If you really want to get drunk: Whenever a character winks for no reason, take a sip.

I'm back! And so are Bullet and Tim Toy! Their job is to fill in for The Children when they can't make it to school or other events involving their civilian identities. I initially thought it was strange that they were sacrificing their own chances for a normal life, but it soon became clear that they have no interest in that sort of thing; Tim Toy is an extreme Otaku who probably can't bear to be apart from his robots, and Bullet probably dislikes interacting with normal people at all.

Yuuri, The Dragon from Black Phantom, is also back. It seems she really does want to lead a normal life.

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while, but I've been pretty busy.

PANDRA Returns 3 confirms that Shiho and Sakaki have few qualms about using lethal force against PANDRA members; it's mainly their loyalty to Minamoto (and perhaps to Kaoru) that holds them back. I wonder how Aoi, Naomi, and Bullet feel about it?

Finished PANDRA Returns. That was a lot of Shout Outs (although I'm not sure if Snake!Kyosuke was a deliberate Naruto reference or not). It was also quite a Wham Episode. The Children find out about the prophecy! Kyosuke finally makes Kaoru really angry!

In short, this series has gotten better since the Time Skip. It helps that the girls are a bit older now, making it somewhat less creepy.
