This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

From Trope Repair Shop? Okay for me.
I think I know why I was suspended. Will I be unbanned after a cool-down period?
~Sara Jaye: This is the third time you've been suspended for edit warring, and the second time related to Fire Emblem Fates. I hope you have a very good reason why we should reinstate you.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I do. From now on, I do not intend to edit any Fire Emblem Fates pages, and I have blacklisted them via StayFocusd to ensure I keep this promise. In fact, the only pages I intend to edit extensively are the ones I've created and maintain (Lurlene Mc Daniel, Everwood, Cory Williams) or the occasional page for a less polarizing series. I solemnly swear to keep my word this time.
I've realized Fire Emblem, especially Fates, is too heated of a topic for some editors, especially myself. I'm better off simply not contributing, as too many characters or subjects are so polarizing.

Hi. Just want to follow up on my status.
I accepted the terms, now can you remove the suspension?
I know it's been slow to get responses here lately. I've been occupied and the other mods aren't used to filling in completely. Let's see what's pending. Going backwards because it's easier...
~rafi: Given the range of problems we've had with you, you're lucky that a permanent Workshops ban is all we're going to do. I'm releasing your wiki suspension. Keep working on the grammar.
~Nirao01: Addressing those examples...
- The Cutie is more than just "adorable and upbeat". Per the trope description, they are primarily a comic relief character whose saccharine nature either gives you good feelings or puts you into a diabetic coma. The character's role in the story must be established in the example. Based on what you said, it is grossly wrong for Kara to be listed as well. She's an action hero, not a comic relief character. Copying a wrong example doesn't make your example right.
- Badass Cape is yet another of those problematic appearance tropes that makes me want to facepalm. "Character wears a cape" is just plain Not A Trope. "Cape is used to symbolize badassery" is potentially a trope, but is really more of a visual metaphor that properly belongs in the appropriate Badass trope description. "The cape is itself badass" is definitely a trope, but the example you wrote fails to establish that there is any special property to the character's cape.
Some other problems:
- You added a number of tropes as commented-out examples, which is absolutely forbidden. If you add an example, you are expected to explain it. Don't make others do the work later.
- In a "portrayed by" writeup, you potholed Lynda Carter to Wonder Woman. Never do that. Always link to the actual Creator article for any actor. If they don't have one, it's fine to redlink it.
- This example:
- Satellite Love Interest: She barely had scenes that doesn't include Alex.
- Awful grammar aside, this has insufficient context.
It's all over the place. You do awful work. We can't spend time constantly fixing it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Sara Jaye: Sorry, we do not accept promises to stop editing particular articles. Even if we were to, there's every reason to expect that, after edit warring over a particular work, you'd find reasons to do it again on others. It doesn't help that the example you were editing is invalid anyway: Draco in Leather Pants can never apply to groups.
This is strike three, after massive warnings. You're out.
~Reality Check: We don't play I Have This Friend games here. There's enough correlation between your current account and banned account RH Junior that there's little reason to pretend. I mean, you're either the author of the fic whose article you're editing or someone stealing their handle. Further, you expressed some of the same odious political sentiments in wiki edits. So, we'd appreciate if you'd kindly leave our site alone.
Worth noting: you had a chance to reply, way back here, but never did.
Scaredinmate, you need to make a new handle. The hash mark in your current one screws up our administrative systems. Handles may only contain alphanumerics.
That said, the reason for your current suspension is removing examples without giving a reason, then edit warring about it. One would think that your prior suspension for page blanking would have taught you that particular lesson.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Segal991: That example for Ms. Fanservice reads more like you having yourself a good wank over her than an example of the actual trope. I think I mentioned this before, but if I was unclear, let me try again. The trope requires that the character be repeatedly shown in sexy attire, poses, etc. in contrast to other characters in the work, incongruently to the situation they are in, and for no obvious narrative purpose. You have not established this.
If the cast is at the beach and they're all in bikinis, it's not an example. If the cast is in the mountains and the character is the only one in a bikini, it's an example.
Edit: Ignore this one, I missed that it was handled already.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I Just wanted to update saying that I'm working on my grammar. Starting with Not Beginning each word with Capital Letters. But i have to Ask.......... Why is bad grammar Suspension-Worthy on this Website? Can't we just send the user a notification to the Grammar fixing Post instead of removing their Editor privileges altogether?
I really need an Answer.
~Diego Amateur: You need to put in a lot more effort.
The reason we expect good grammar is simple: we're creating a wiki that is for public use. The quality of the writing determines the impression our site makes on readers. If the articles are filled with poor spelling, bad grammar, improper capitalization, and so on, it makes us look sloppy, amateurish. Every article should be written as you'd want someone in the general public to read it: someone who doesn't necessarily share our enthusiasm for troping and will form a first impression based on the visual and written presentation.
Secondarily, we have a lot of tropers who spend time fixing problems on the site, and that includes grammar. People who write poorly cause more work for them, and take away from work they could be putting into other areas.
As for notifications, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Suspensions are to stop problems, first and foremost.
Edited to add: We always need help with our translations project, if you're not a native English speaker. You still have to write properly in your chosen language, though.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ms. Fanservice: Humba Wumba's tank top bares her midriff, and she wears shorts. She seems to be fond of striking sexy poses too. Humba Wumba is much more thin and model-like in Nuts And Bolts.

Oh, I believe in yesterdaySegal, it's unclear why we aren't communicating. You have addressed only one of the requirements of the trope. If you can't think of how the others fit, then it's not an example.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Fighteer: My response to some other problems.
- By commented-out examples you mean the ones with the "double %* Trope", right? I actually mention that I'll get back to them and add explanations in case I couldn't at the time. It's usually either because I'm at the middle of something (mostly work) or/and I'm using my phone instead of my laptop. Now if someone else added to them before I got back, then I guess I should say thanks?
- I did not potholed Lynda Carter's name to the Wonder Woman TV show, in fact I removed it. Go check the full edit history again and find the real culprit.
- I already updated Maggie's Satellite Love Interest description before I was suspended. Again, check the full edit history.

I was suspended a while ago (a year or two, I think) and I never got around to asking for my editing privileges back. I'd like to edit again. Thank you.
Hi,
I think that I have been unfairly targeted by one person for trivial infractions of rules that, elsewhere, I have consistently followed. (Or which, as in the case of Indentation, are in my view seriously unclear.)
I got eight messages in one day from one person, and before I had a chance to do anything about them, bingo, I was suspended.
I am not asking to be reinstated. I have decided not to edit tv tropes again. Good luck.
~The Pagan Sun: Which is why we have records of you asking to be reinstated back in 2015.
~Tropers/{{06tele}}: Cool. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
"Yup. That tasted purple."~nirao01: My bad on the Lynda Carter thing; you did remove it. However, the other issues still stand. Pre-adding ZCEs is a violation of our rules even if you do so with comment markup. In addition to being lazy, it sends the message that it's okay to do. Also, just because some of the examples you added had proper context doesn't mean that you get a pass on the others.
~The Pagan Sun: When we left off, we were having a disagreement about whether it's okay to use an inapplicable trope (in this case, Adaptation Decay) to cover a situation that you really strongly feel the urge to talk about. It's not. Just because a thing happens doesn't mean it's a trope. Now, we'll consider restoring your editing if you agree to run such ambiguous situations by the troper body first. Ask The Tropers and Trope Finder are good resources for that. So's the "Is this an example?" topic.
Just remember that tropes are discrete concepts. While flexibility is important, you can't just dump anything you want in them.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yes, I am RH Junior/Realitycheck. I did attempt to reply earlier, however due to misreading the notice I couldn't ruddy well figure out how or where to respond or query.. ...I attempted, as common sense would seem to dictate, to reply via the mailbox, but clicking on the appropriate link only informed me that I was banned from using messaging, and there seemed to be no other way to contact the administrators of your site.... I reapplied as RH Junior for lack of any other ideas what to do.
Anyway, allow me to clarify what I was saying. When I referenced other people coming in here and making certain comments and post changes, I was saying I suspected that one of the trolls in my own website forums had come here and was, shall we say, playing politics with the staff of TV Tropes to my detriment.
As to my personal, "reprehensible" political views, I'd hate to think that you're letting PC ideology decide whether I am allowed to comment or edit, especially when anonymous individuals have in the past made not-so-subtle P.C. motivated edits.... little distortions and ad hominem "digs" at me on your site... without any repercussions from your staff. One might be led to conclude that you are behaving in a biased manner.
Fighteer: OK. I'll avoid doing that from now on.

~Reality Check: Attacking you on our site based on fights that occur on yours is not acceptable (under our "drama importation" rule) and we will certainly deal with it if notified and if there's credible evidence. However, you are the one who broke our rules, twice — first by treating our article on your work as if it was your property, second by ban evading. We did not (at the time) block your old account from posting in the Edit Banned topic, and even if we had, there is an email address that you can use as your ultimate form of appeal; it's listed in What to Do If You Are Suspended.
As for your politics, well, we explicitly ban hate speech, and we consider the views of certain groups to be inherently hateful. These include MRAs. It's not a right-left thing, but it is a thing about civility in discourse and the ability to debate without vilifying one's opponents. We can talk about it all day, but the point is that you won't be unbanned, nor allowed to register any more accounts. See ya.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Now, i'll try to have...... at least half-decent grammar. In case decent is enough to keep me from being suspended.

I can't totally think how the others fit Humba Wumba, so she's not a Ms. Fanservice, I guess.
Oh, I believe in yesterday~Segal991: Right. Do you see why we require full context for examples? One big reason is that, sometimes, the effort to find it proves that the example is not valid.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
The terms of your release are set: by mod consensus, you would be permanently banned from TRS. Do you agree to these terms?
