I wonder if Kuyou is now going to correlate dressing up with getting kissed. After all, she seemed to think that baking cookies and "that entanglement" were in a causal relation from her observations of Mikuru. Next step: EGL!Kuyou◊.

Ouch! I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but it seems to me that the conversation with Haruhi brought some of Shinobu's buried feeling to the surface of her mind.

By the way, I have a request to the Dev Team of the VN: Are you already decided on a character design for Shinobu? If it's possible I would like to see what do you have in mind for her.

It's actually a reference of the three tennets which rule the Tsuruya family: 'family', 'justice' and 'honor' (and in that order, being family the most important).

It might have some hints of Loophole Abuse though, given Shinobu's affection with Tsuruya.

RE Kuyou's POV et al.: Oh, right. Guess I got distracted by the other stuff — the extremely macroscaled cookie-baking attempt, Kyon's discovery of what the Tsu-Na duo were up to, and especially the kiss.

RE Kiss By Proxy: Good call. I didn't catch that the first time, distracted as I was by being giddy at Kuyou finally getting her kiss.

@EGL!Kuyou: ... That makes me feel so terribly inadequate, I wouldn't be able to dare ask her for a dance if I even wanted to (and knew how to dance in the first place)!

That's not what I mean. Shinobu's non-verbal cues (especially the "one hand dabbing at her eyes" bit) make me thinks she was struggling to keep her emotions in check. I'm guessing the way Kyon acted, much more like family than as a subordinate, struck a chord in her.

How do you the Big Damn Harem is going to react to the potential Relationship Upgrade between Kyon and Kuyou? For some reason my guess is that after hearing Kyon's worried admission of what it happened, the girls are going to start paying Yuki for correctly guessing when their first kiss would happen.

Now I think about it, IIRC Kuyou is the only character who explicitly used the word "love" when speaking about Kyon*

You used "work" instead of "word".

Renaming tropes like that is common but discouraged, I think. Putting it under Sex by Proxy is probably better.

And I'm pretty sure you're right about Kuyou being the only one to come right out and say "love."

AFAIR, the more outspoken declaration of feelings (with words I mean, actions speak far much louder) happened in Fi-3 was the mutual "I like you a lot" between Yuki and Kyon.

How do you think Sasaki's transference to Kitago is going to be handled?

IINM, the current day in-story (as of Re-1) is Friday 17th. With the help of the Organization's plants within Kitago's staff, enough money to smooth things over and a couple of Mori's Smiles™ if it comes down to it, I'm guessing Sasaki could be attending to her new school on Monday 20th*

The thing I have been wondering about is which of second year classes she is going to assigned to. The most obvious choice would be Kyon and Haruhi's class*

Another possibility could be Koizumi's class. IIRC, his class has a better academic performance than Kitago's average and I think it's not too far-fetched to assume that Kyouko is going to be transferred there at some point, which would leave Sasaki with a familiar face to interact with. On the other hand, she could end feeling as the Third Wheel to Koizumi and Kyouko in that case.

A Third Option could be Yuki's class. I'm having troubles picturing how this alternative could go though.

I agree, I think it'd be better Sasaki not sharing class with Kunikida. I think she'll start going to Yuki's class on Tuesday.

It may not be best from the perspective of avoiding drama, but I think it would be the more interesting result if Sasaki ended up in Kyon's class.

: Actually, they've been missing two students. Yamane transferred to jail, and Ryouko "transferred to Canada".

That would be true if it wasn't for the fact that it happened during Kyon's first year and the story started a bit after the beginning of the second year.

do we even know what Yuki's class looks like? I was pretty sure she never went there and instead mesmerized the professor into thinking she did.

But then how would Kyon contact her in the school? Better yet, how would she be able to best observe Haruhi at school if she wasn't there?

Oh, she does go to school, clearly enough, since that's where everything happens. It's uncertain whether she goes to class. (I'm inclined to think she does; she's mentioned doing homework in BDH, and if she was willing to hypnotize random people to get out of attending class, why not out of doing homework?)

&She definitely goes to class, Kyon's narration mentions at one point that Yuki is only not at the top of her class because she leaves some of her answers blank on every assignment.

Brian also mentions that little factoid as well.

I guess that she does not condone herself saying/writing outright lies knowingly unless the life of one of her "top-priorities" is on the line, huh?

But still, it seems, for the most part, that everyone from the previous year's class is there for this year's class, IINM, so aside from any new students that I don't know about (have any new students joined in the novels? I haven't gotten that far yet), that still leaves Yamane and Ryouko as the only ones having left since the previous year.

It may depend on the school IRL but in every anime I've seen where the subject has come up, the same group of students don't always end up in the same class from one year to the next.
