Have we agreed to start a TRS?

I mean... we're gonna need a lot more preparation (like a wick check) to come up with a convincing argument, and gotta wait for our turn on the TRS Queue after. It's not as simple as "let's go to TRS".

FWIW it's on my personal to-do list.

Maybe I'll start a wick check. If anyone wants to help me out, what kind of categories should I put?

From what I've noticed, many of the entries on the page seem to be either:

  • Knowledge that really isn't that common (for the truly pedantic)
  • Fanon being debated/debunked
  • Confusion/crossover with Dead Unicorn Trope
  • Fan Myopia in thinking that "everyone" is knowledgeable about specific episodes/plotlines

Found this on Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout

Folder cause its a text wall
  • Common Knowledge: Atelier Ryza is often described as being a Hotter and Sexier take on the Atelier series due to the addition of Jiggle Physics, the main character being a Ms. Fanservice with plump thighs, and Lila having Boobs Of Steel. However, other than that, there is next to no "sexy" Fanservice. Most of the previous games had a Beach Episode or Hot Springs Episode which showcase the characters in swimsuits or nude; Ryza, meanwhile, relegates those to optional DLC, with the female characters' swimsuits also being less revealing that those in previous games. And although you can have a hot spring dug outside of the atelier, there is no cutscene showing the characters actually bathing in it. The game can actually be considered Tamer and Chaster than usual for an Atelier game (and is a bit more in-tone with the earliest, Salburg-era games in this regard). Previous games usually had at least one character with boobs big enough for Jiggle Physics (particularly Pamela and Drossel), as well as characters with Stripperiffic costumes (like Mel or Plachta), and the Arland series even included a cutscene in each game in which a female character will get drunk, pin down, and then grope the teenage girl protagonist (leading to the "high impact sexual violence" meme from Atelier Totori getting an adult rating in one territory just for this scene). In spite of all this, Ryza is still Best Known for the Fanservice out of all the titles.

Now, I have no idea what the other Atelier games are like, so can anyone verify?

As a longtime Atelier fan, the thing with Ryza compared to older games is that older Atelier games had their fanservice limited to specific scenes like the aforementioned Beach Episode, or the ocassional Ms. Fanservice optional party member, while the fanservice in Ryza (especially the second game) is constant with the camera angles, poses, and design of the main protagonist. Granted, it's the mainly the second game that kicks it into overdrive.

The character proportions like Ryza's thighs and Lila's er, everything are also much more exaggerated compared to any of the previous games characters. And consdering some of the older Atelier games like the Dusk trilogy and the DS games have very little if any fan service I think Ryza being Hotter and Sexier is true.

I think I'm the one who added these examples (or at least expanded them), but I'm also fine with them being removed. I'm asexual, so I basically don't notice that something is sexy unless it's extremely blatant, like the hot springs and groping scenes in other Atelier games. So my brain doesn't register Ryza just walking around as fanservice.

I added this to YMMV.Star Fox Adventures a while ago...

While this was Rare's last name for a Nintendo console and a Nintendo IP before they were bought by Microsoft, this wasn't their last game for a Nintendo console overall. They released a few games on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, the last of which was Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise.

...But now that you mention it, it's less of a misconception by the general public and more like a fun bit of trivia. Should I remove it?

Posting this here because I have no idea where else to post, specifically from Pokémon S2E1 "Pallet Party Panic" Dub-Induced Plot Hole: Ash officially releases Pidgeot to lead the flock in the Japanese version, but promises to come back for him in the dubbed version, kicking off Ash's streak of looking like a forgetful ass in the eyes of fans.

However the Common Knowledge subpage for Pokémon says this: In another example of 4Kids being blamed for something they didn't change, it is often stated than when Ash's Pidgeot was Put on a Bus in the Japanese version Ash didn't make an unfulfilled promise to come back. In reality he makes the same promise in both versions, and it is not hard to find Japanese fans online complaining that Ash never came back.

Bulbapedia's article never mentions the supposed "plot hole" either.

[up][up] The fansite Dogasu's Backpack did a comparison of the two scenes, and it does appear like the wording was slightly changed in the English dub.

In the original, Ash tells Pidgeot to stay in the forest and wishes it good luck as he leaves, while the English dub had it so he asks Pidgeot to stay in the forest "for a little while" and says "see you soon" as he leaves, which was not in the original script.

The only line in the Japanese script that suggests Ash would return for Pidgeot is him claiming that he'll back as he finishes his errand with the GS Ball, which is the same in both versions.

It's ambiguous enough that it might be interpreted one way or the other, but it's not as blatant like the English dub.

Yeah, but does it really count as Dub-Induced Plot Hole? Because in Fighting Flyer With Fire! Ash never mentions he went back for Pidgeot.

Yeah, I'm tempted to remove the "plot hole" entirely given that in both English and Japanese, Ash said he'd be back for Pidgeot but outside of two flashback appearances in the Original Series (the above mentioned episode and The Fires of a Red Hot Reunion! in Unova), he never did come back for the Normal/Flying-type.

Added this to YMMV.Piero Scaruffi

  • Common Knowledge: Despite the infamous opening to his essay and the memes, Scaruffi did not hate The Beatles, he just found them overrated. While he very much dislikes their early, teenybopper era and dismisses it as disposable pop, he recognizes their later work as fairly good in their own right, even giving Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band good reviews.

I believe I am correct in this right? That's the interpretation I got from reading his Beatles retrospective.

So from Pokémon

  • Pokémon only go by "it". While most characters do use "it", Pokémon have always been referred to with gendered pronouns in English translations and it's gotten more common since the DS games. In general, the games use gendered pronouns more than other media.

So uh genuine question. When did this happen. As I play and watch play throughs of this game and sincerly don't know where this is from.

[up] Cutscenes I assume? The actual gameplay doesn't use pronouns really anywhere, instead saying the Pokémon's name. But even in cutscenes it's pretty rare, and IDK why they bring up the DS era since I'm pretty sure it's a more recent phenomenon than that.

The Pokédex gets really confusing as it keeps referring to Pokémon that are hard-coded to be always male (Tauros, the Hitmons) or female (Kangaskhan, Miltank, Ogerpon) as it.

I know that only the anime does it, and even then they began doing it only in very recent times (in Journeys Cynthia's Garchomp is always referred to as a she for example).

The best character is always the one-shot disguise.

Found this on YMMV.Spy X Family

  • Common Knowledge:
    • A common claim made online is that the series has an Ensemble Cast, with Loid, Yor and Anya all being equally relevant main characters. This is ignoring the fact that of the three, Loid is very clearly the one driving the story forward, since it's his operation that's central to the story, with Yor not even having a part in said operation until Chapter 65. As such, it would more accurate to say that Loid is The Protagonist, Anya's the Deuteragonist and Yor's the Tritagonist, or that the latter are both the deuteragonists.

I don't think this is true because all 3 characters feel like Rotating Protagonists. Would like more opinions.

  • Common Knowledge: An article by IGN France drew backlash when it accused Eve of being "a doll sexualized by someone who has never seen a woman," even though Eve's designed was based on scans of a real-life Korean model.

This seems more like making fun of an article rather than this being the trope. Any thoughts?
