Role-Ending Misdemeanor cleanup

Earlier in the past couple of days, I've noticed that some entries relating to the baseball folder in the sports section had been deleted at random for no apparent reason that I was aware of. (The deletions in question came from the user named Big Chungus, by the way.) My issue on this relates to the fact that I've been adding entries in relation to players in the MLB (and potentially certain players from the minor leagues at the time) that had already happened years ago, and I can't help but think being suspended for at least 50 games due to performance-enhancing drugs should qualify as role-ending misdemeanors here. I've been using links like this Wikipedia link here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_players_suspended_for_performance-enhancing_drugs) as a point of reference for the baseball suspensions in particular. I've also been thinking about continuing the NFL players that had also faced major, serious suspensions that lasted at least a half-season long (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suspensions_in_the_National_Football_League) afterward.

Here's the question: After their suspension is up, do they lose their roles as players, or are they allowed to return to their team in the same position? If it's the latter, it doesn't count, if it's the former, then it does.

As per this ATT, SkylaNoivern raised some concerns this past month about the "cautionary tales" introductory descriptions, which were added to most of the Role-Ending Misdemeanor subpages not too long ago. Should we keep them or remove them if it's necessary?

From the live tv section:

  • Angel:
    • Lots of rumors swirl around regarding Doyle's death and Glenn Quinn's drug problems, which resulted in his death a few years later. Joss Whedon says his death in the first season was intended from the start, but some say the timeline was sped up out of fear his drug habit would rub off on his castmates, as both David Boreanaz and Charisma Carpenter were good friends with him.
    • Carpenter's pregnancy in Season 4 led to Cordelia being written out and then brought back for the next season, only to be killed off.

"Rumors swirl" and "some say" - that's speculative and gossip, especially when Whedon's on the record contradicting it. And pregnancy is not a misdemeanour, although it could be Real Life Writes the Plot.

Any reason I shouldn't cut both?

To Crazy Luigi:

I was trying to cut down on the walls of text each entry was, as well as entries that were not examples. If a player was suspended, but returned to the team, then it is not an example.

Maybe this is outside the scope of cleanup, but the trope description says that REM explicitly includes felonies, which I think is causing some issues that reflect poorly on the site. I know Tropes Are Flexible but it seems very blasé, and maybe a ROCEJ violation in and of itself, to have a whole page listing cases of murder and assault under the umbrella of "misdemeanors".

[up] As Synchronicity pointed out last time that point came up, it's been through TRS discussions on that, and the crowner voted not to rename it.

We also don’t want it to sound like it’s just about crimes. “Showed up to set drunk too many times” or “yelled at the makeup artist” would also be an example. The goal is to catalog creators who were fired for any bad behavior, not list murderers and assaulters.

Maybe making the description clearer about what we mean by “misdemeanor” can help with that recurring concern.

But yes, arguing to rename would be a TRS case.

Web Original has a subpage related to those in the EAS Scenarios commmunity... and it's kinda dodgy. Putting my comments in bold.

  • ClayRanger143 was a once beloved, now infamous EAS creator best known for his EAS scenarios, EAS Captures, and his Radio Reviews series. However, things took a wild turn when he was exposed for erotic roleplaying with a minor in late 2022. Clay would eventually make several attempts to defend himself (as well as most of his fanbase siding with him at the time) for over two months before announcing that he would be going on a hiatus on January 11, 2023. 4 days later, on January 15, a youtuber named Thunderbuddy01 announced that he would stop co-hosting Clay’s Radio Reviews series via Twitter. The next day, the Global Weather & EAS Society (GWES) would reveal a document of Clay having to committing several acts of battery/assault against another individual, as well as sexual misconduct, and unlawful grooming with minors.note  Clay's reputation would take a massive nosedive on January 17 when he was banned from multiple Discord servers, resulting in him closing most of his social media accounts, as well as most of his fanbase turning against him. On the same day, a community post was made that his channel would be taken over by a person named "Jackson Miller Davis", though it's questionable whether Clay actually gave his channel away.note The fall of ClayRanger143 would leave a huge scar on the EAS Community and as a heads up for EAS creators or community members to keep an eye out for people exhibiting suspicious explicit behavior around minors or others. The podcast removal and maybe-removing himself from the channel means this should count. Could probably be condensed some though.
  • ColeEAS was a former creator who often made videos showing alert captures and was fairly active in the community. However, in 2020 it was revealed he was very sexually predatory and toxic towards many community members and even threatened suicide towards members when they rejected his advances. He also claimed there was nothing inherently wrong with his actions. Upon a Google Drive containing screenshots of these claims being released, he then went radio silent on all social media and stopped uploading on YouTube. He has tried to enter the community again using different names, but none have succeeded. Given the main page mentions independent creators limiting their activities as counting, I guess this counts.
  • Con6510 was a former scenario creator who was ousted for multiple sexual harassment claims towards different community members, along with displaying toxicity and hostility for even minor instances. Most of his social media has been deactivated following these incidents. Were they deactivated due to being reported, or by the creator himself? I'm not sure if the former counts or not.
  • EASAustralia, also known as MSW OWO, was a former scenario creator who often was very vocal for his hatred of the American EAS Scenario community and was often engaged in drama involving multiple creators despite him inciting arguments and said creators not getting involved. However, he has since stopped due to the deletion of his channel due to targeted harassment and has gone silent since. Same as above.
  • EASyWest, also known as SPCWestCoast1491, was a former creator who was exposed for exposing minors to explicit imagery. In 2022, a Google Docs link was shared across the community confirming the allegations were true and as such, he was exiled from the community, though he has attempted to reenter it again with no success. No formal ousting from a role, and the creator evidently didn't try limiting their creations. Probably doesn't count.
  • LittleMissDevious was a former creator who was very active in the community and one of its oldest members who often collaborated with other creators in other scenarios. Sometime in July of 2021, she was exposed for being unfaithful with her partner and for making unsolicited sexual remarks towards others while in said relationship. Soon after, she deleted all of her social media and YouTube account. Counts as an independent creator limiting their activity.
  • MissVR was heavily involved in the community and often created scenarios in collaboration with other creators, while also making solo content. She was exposed in July of 2021 for showing toxicity towards community members, often getting into confrontations and even claims of being unfaithful to her then boyfriend. As a result, she was exiled from the community and now goes under a different name. No formal ousting and not trying to limit activites. Probably doesn't count.
  • RMwx was a former member of the community who was helping many creators obtain incredibly hard to find software for use in scenario creation. He was exposed in July of 2021 for sexually interacting with a minor, which resulted in his exile from the community alongside the software to end up unreleased. Doesn't mention any formal ousting from a role. Probably doesn't count.
  • A role-ending misdemeanor turned into a role-ending felony with SSTEAS, whose online career ended with SSTEAS being imprisoned for sexual abuse of a minor. Doesn't mention any roles formally being removed (outside of being in prison making fulfilling them a lot harder, but that's probably not in the spirit of the trope.

I have a question about the Dan Schneider entry.

  • Producer, writer and actor Dan Schneider was involved in over 20 years of live-action comedies on Nickelodeon including All That, The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, Sam & Cat, Game Shakers, and Henry Danger. In 2018, Schneider and Nickelodeon decided not to extend their production deal. The network had received complaints about Schneider being verbally abusive toward crew members during a stressful period of shooting upward of 50 episodes of his shows a year, crossing lines with staff that included requesting massages and contacting actors outside of work hours. He was also accused of having a sexual fetish for feet and drew controversy when he asked for child-age fans to shows their excitement for Sam & Cat premiering by painting messages on their feet and tweeting out pictures. It would ultimately come to ahead when iCarly actress Jennette McCurdy's autobiography released in August 2022 where she accused him of creating a sexually hostile work environment on the sets of all his shows. He would have no involvement in the Henry Danger Sequel Series Danger Force and the 2021 Paramount+ revival of iCarly, but would still be billed in the credits as the creator of the shows.

While the feet thing is weird, the tweeting thing was a promotion done in like, 2013 or 2014. I don't think it affected his career, as he wasn't really ousted from the industry until four years later as the entry says. I think the entry should stick to the allegations that came from people who worked with him or supervised him and thus actually affected his career.

IDK if he got "busted" at all. People had made jokes about how creepy he was for a while leading up to that IIRC, and then the hammer eventually dropped but people already kinda knew by then; the autobiography just added more fuel to the fire. I could be wrong about the timeline, though.

I've just discovered some the lead sections for some of the individual pages were rewritten (i.e. on the RoleEndingMisdemeanor.Comic Strips page here) or removed (i.e. on the RoleEndingMisdemeanor.Music page here) a few days ago.

Any thoughts on what to do here for these as well as other REM pages?

One case was recently brought up here. I didn't realize all subpages had these intros. The original versions all strike me as pointless and very awkwardly written, what with the constant references to "cautionary tales for those who want to work in the industry". Problem is (aside from the matter that such unilateral changes should have been brought here first) that the replacement text isn't very good either. At least the one on the Comic Strips page is snappy. But yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing them go.

This entry doesn't describe if he was fired from the role, just stating him trying to do damage control on the proven true allegations. Should we remove?

I've noticed a few entries in the Live-Action TV page which seem to fit under Non-Gameplay Elimination or have already been listed there, specifically:

''American Idol: When racy (though not nude) pictures of Frenchie Davis emerged, she was dismissed from the show. Both Corey Clark and Jermaine Jones were also removed for having criminal records that they lied about.''

This is referring to contestants.

''Big Brother: The US version of the show has seen five contestants expelled from the house for misbehavior (it goes on to list similar examples for the UK version, Celebrity Big Brother UK and the Canadian one)''

All the examples listed here are contestants, including the celebrity Big Brother ones.

Drag Race - mentions Sherry Pie's DQ (contestant) and another queen being edited out entirely. Again, referring to contestants who were eliminated through nonstandard means

This entry:

''VH 1's short-lived reality show Megan Wants a Millionaire was short-lived for a very grisly reason: one of the contestants, Ryan Jenkins, had not only been convicted of assaulting a woman in 2007, unbeknownst to the producers, but was also wanted for questioning—and later charged outright—in the murder of his wife, Jasmine Fiore. Only three episodes were aired in August 2009, before VH 1 cancelled the show and scrubbed all mention of it from the airwaves and the Internet in light of the events. Jenkins would hang himself in a hotel room three days later while on the run from the law. Jenkins had also been a contestant on another VH 1 reality show, I Love Money, and was the winner of its third season. But the accusations against him and his subsequent suicide led to that season being cancelled the next day—with its fourth and final season only escaping a similar fate due to viewer demand.''

this one is a bit iffy, as Ryan's actions led to the show as a whole being cancelled, but he was a contestant and not hosting/staff?

This example from Survivor: Dan Spilo became the first Survivor contestant ever to be kicked off the show when he was removed from the Island of the Idols season in 2019 after he was reported to have inappropriately touched a female crew member while he was getting on a boat. Spilo's behavior around female contestants had been an issue for most of the season, especially after Kellee Kim had accused him of touching her inappropriately. Spilo was given a formal warning by the producers after Kim aired her concerns about him to the rest of the tribe, but he was allowed to remain on the show, a decision that proved to be controversial for the rest of the season. The incident with the crew member was ultimately the final straw, and Dan was removed from the game on Day 36. The remaining five castaways were informed of the decision by host Jeff Probst that morning—no goodbyes, no placement on the jury, no final words, and no invite to the aftershow.

yet again, one which falls under Non-Gameplay Elimination. While Dan is the first to be outright booted officially (Brendan Hantz's instance allegedly was also a boot, but I can't confirm the source), Dan was not a member of staff or hosting.

And a few examples from this one (I haven't listed them all, but out of the half a dozen examples, only two refer to judges or staff)

The X Factor has had numerous controversies which have led to contestants and even judges being forced to withdraw from the competition, leaving the show as a result:

Am I ok to cut those examples?

I think this can overlap with Non-Gameplay Elimination (since that can include other reasons for elimination like emergencies), and I consider being a contestant on a reality show to be a "role."

I feel like this is purely Non-Gameplay Elimination, except if it spills into other media.

Dan Spilo is the edge case here, as he's in the entertainment industry in a non-Survivor context. Did he get dropped from anything else as a result of his actions on Survivor?

So I believe that we need to update the entry for Chuggaaconroy on RoleEndingMisdemeanor.Web Original, given that his side of the story came to light weeks ago. Here's the original:

  • Prolific LPer and The Runaway Guys member Chuggaaconroy went on hiatus in January 2024 when Lady Emily accused him of unwanted erotic roleplay, with his former friends MasaeAnela and AntDude following with accusations of him violating their boundaries. Evidence of Emile sending sexual messages to a 15-year-old fan when he was 19 in tandem with the allegations above led to The Runaway Guys going on an indefinite hiatus. Masae archived her videos containing Emile following the fallout, and both ProtonJon and NintendoCapriSun have professionally distanced themselves from Emile. The charity stream, "The Runaway Guys Colosseum" would be rebranded as "Thrown Controllers Colosseum", and Jon would mention him and Tim would consider making a new collab channel without Emile, though noting has been firmly decided yet.

Here's the changes.

Although Emile later revealed his side of the story that cleared up much of the concern from his friends, associates, and fanbase, the mental toll from the whole ordeal as well as prior trauma has left the possibility of his YouTube career and/or TRG resuming unknown.

Anything related should also be updated.
