Misused: Sadist Show

This trope tend to attract not only misuse, but complaining.

I looked at the "laconic" section, and the trope seems to be defined as "A TV show, movie, or other work in which every character is The Chew Toy."

A majority of the shows listed aren't even examples. People like to use this trope to describe shows where people are simply unpleasant to the protagonists, despite the protagonists having happy endings half of the time.

Here are examples deleted due to misuse:

• The Amazing World of Gumball can be this at times, with Gumball being the most common victim.

• The Loud House can be considered one sometimes, as several episodes involve Lincoln being bullied and bad-mouthed by his 10 sisters. When something goes wrong in the Loud House, the 10 sisters all gang up on Lincoln simply for being the only boy in the family, and also for having white hair at the age of 11. (Good examples include "The Sweet Spot", "The Green House", "The Loudest Yard", "One of the Boys", "Brawl in the Family", etc.)

• Stickin' Around. There are a plethora of times where this show outright is just plain mean and nasty to secondary protagonist Bradley, even in terms of writing. Many of these episodes don't even seem written well enough to pull it off, or even have any good build up or sense of justification, even if it is a kid's sadist show. Local bullies Lance and Russell, though getting their fair share of punishment, seemingly only get it if they mess or get involved with events if Stacey steps in- Many extreme instances involve them either crawling into Bradley's room through his window even while he's sick just to give him a beating, loading him up into a trash can and dumping the entire thing into the public pool, and to where even the series' finale ends with a statue of Bradley receiving a wedgie by them. Granted, there are times where the cast are mean to each other, but how their faults are childish and out of naivety, to where even Bradley's pettiness and self absorbed moments are plain harmless is just jarring and disproportionate to what small mistakes Bradley makes, or how practically criminal Lance and Russell act. Hell, considering what kind of delinquency and extremes of bad behavior those two brats engage in, in reality, they'd be the ones on the receiving ends on a short leash by the law or in juvenile hall.

Here's one I deleted recently:

• Very frequent in The Proud Family, from the treatment of Penny to the abuse Oscar recieves.

Most of the anime section only has suffering for the main character and not the entire cast as well, primarily the Harem Genre entries. Those strike me as a different trope.

I don’t watch those, but if the majority of the male characters were always suffering abuse in one show, it qualifies.

Flag this as In-Universe Examples Only.

I don't think the laconic correctly defines the trope (many laconics don't). It shouldn't be a requirement that multiple characters suffer.

If a sadist show were to require only the main characters suffering, I think it should still be a requirement for (almost) nothing to ever work out for the main characters.

People just use this trope to complain about shows, and it's annoying. If nothing is done, we should just remove non-examples and skim out the misuse and the complaining.
