Hope it's not a thing where they show Hideri now and then not have a segment about hiring Hideri until the end of the next episode. jk

lol at the last segment of this week's episode. I could see Cafe Stile do a cross-dressing cafe for a day >_>

Episode 7: I wonder how would Maika steer the customers away from strawberries?

Probably go something like "don't buy anything with strawberries in it if you know what's good for you", lol.

Hideri is exactly the type of character I expected. I think this is the first time I've seen a Wholesome Crossdresser in a CGDCT series... are there any other series that prominently feature a cross-dresser?

Pretty cool how well Hideri fits in with the rest of the cast. Works as Dino's foil, and in turn is foiled by Miu and Mafuyu. The late introduction doesn't sting quite as much now.

Watching it on Crunchyroll led me to experience the first time I felt the sting of something Lost in Translation. Specfically, the bit where the cast initially questions Hideri's use of "boku" in Japanese, but in the subtitles just have Hideri blurt out he's a boy instead, which makes some later stuff redundant. It's a hard thing to translate, no doubt, but I still wish they could've found something more elegant.

No matter, now the crew's all here and I look forward to seeing what stuff they get up to next.

Man why don't we have a CGDCT trope yet....

Anyway I am pretty sure The Idol Master has one.

I recall Sae in Hidamari Sketch was intended to be a trap, but editors shot it down. This is why the series has the strangely masculine name "Hiro"—it was intended for trap-Sae, but later the two swapped names to avoid such connotations.

I thought it was just straight a guy, the school they go to isn't just for girls IIRC.

Hideri's a nice addition to the cast. Also, he's quite the nar...er, I mean, he's so full of himse... He's so confident! Yes, that's what I was trying to say!tongue

I need some guidelines here: How much should tropers spoiler Hideri's gender? Right now I spoiler-tag that as if a general spoiler, but this series, both in- and off-universe, doesn't seem to treat his gender a real secret, unlike most other cases of crossdressing.

Also, Crunchyroll, "moe buta" isn't only "pigs that are moe"... They refer to a subtype of otaku that are... say, like Dino.

Catching up with this series, I love it.

I didn't like Dino being phobic to Hideri but it's kind of brushed off

Everyone's pretty great, I ship Akizuki and Kaho, Maika is love, and Dino is like leaving a dream life

Lets change her line in the opening.

[up]Well, that line refers to their real temperament. In Mafuyu's case, I think it means "elder sister."

While most viewers can identify the anime put the story in Tokyo, with Cafe Stile implied to be in Akiba (although, architecture-wise I would rather have it set to the far-less subculture Jiyuugaoka). But on a recent trip to Tokyo I realized the place Miu bought her art supplies at Episode 8 is probably Sekaido's Shinjuku flagship, which is one of the largest art supplies store in Japan.

Finally caught up to the latest episode of Blend S. Came for the catchy and memetic "Bon Appétit S", stayed for the endearing characters.

Maika is adorbs, Kaho best girl (and best waitress since Tedeza Rize), Mafuyu best big sis, Miu best onee-san...and is it bad if I say that I like Hideri more than Nico? Or, as Abridged!Alucard would put it:

Ah. The return of the "why" boner... With a vengeance!

Also, I can't help but chuckle a bit at Tomoaki Maeno voicing Butt-Monkey café owner Dino, since I know him best as the voice of Kyo Kusanagi.

^ And Maika Wall Pin of Love's Dino too. evil grin

I've noticed a line used in this episode where Hideri says (per Crunchyroll): "Hot guys, here's a cue to extend your hand!" This line caused some controversy on 4chan since it may imply he is also into boys.

It seems actually it's like this:

Not the subs to blame this time, it's the anime team that changed his line from the aggressive "Ikemen-domo yo" to the neutral "Ikemen-tachi yo"). -domo is the same honorific he uses for butadomo and implies he sees guys as little more than living stock to boost his popularity. Definitely cynical, definitely narcissist, but not homosexual.

Interesting

They play for jokes but they don’t outright say if he’s transgender, sexual preference, or just someone who likes cross dressing a lot.

But I’m really glad I picked up this show, also hearing Working! comparisons.

Best way to end it and I would love more but I hear the web manga is ending soon.

It seems to me that Hideri is the last of the three, i.e. a heterosexual, cis-gendered male transvestite, and the latter is mainly due to his body is naturally girlish.

Its obvious really if you watch him, several times his body language indicates that he is hiding a Raging Stiffie when the girls start getting a little over the top.

Its really funny how much they actually paid attention to it.

Because Blend-S has became a meme, it has become the Kirara series with the most outbounds—it's already more than 20,000. Remember, K-On! is not more than 12k.

Just dropping in a post to say I just discovered the series over the past week and love it. I'm last watched episode 8 (Hideri's intro).

For me, I think much of the hilarity comes from how Maika is such a natural sadist in spite of herself.

[up] Maika Figma, or Nendoroid?

I wouldn't mind a Nendoroid of Kaho, though... smile
