One LAST thread.

The definition of the trope is, according to the laconic page: "A once innovative work might not seem too innovative anymore, as the tropes it introduced are now commonplace". Good, right? However, it has been subject to heavy, HEAVY misuse.

There are 4 types.

Type 1: "A once original work might not seem so, as other works have done what it did better".

"Better" is HIGHLY subjective, even by this site's standards, and this also doesn't fall under the trope.

Type 2: "A once original work is no longer original, and therefore, no longer enjoyable"

Originality ≠ Quality. Just because something's not original doesn't mean it's bad. Take The Lego Movie. The plot is the same old "Normal guy saves the world" plot done a million times, and yet it was one of the most acclaimed movies of the decade.

Type 3: "A work which once had advanced special effects or graphics now doesn't"

Doesn't fall under the trope.

Type 4: "A once enjoyable work didn't age well"

Media doesn't age. Works stay just as enjoyable through the years. Watching, say Citizen Kane now should be no different from when it was new. When people say something "was good in the time" they're usually saying that they liked it when they were young, and their tastes have changed, not that the work itself has changed.

I started a cleanup of this, got through Film before mods stopped me for disregarding the TRS thread. Here are some wicks that fall under misuse, and what type they are.

Whatever your opinion on 4 may be, we have pretty conclusively decided that you are wrong on it. Please stop.
