I've been well enough, yes. Reminisced about the good old days from MMF a few times and that's why I'm in the game right now as well so there's that. How are you? XD

Oh yeah, I guess I should have also mentioned that the discussion thread tends to go a lot faster than the main thread.

Almost twice as fast sometimes...

I'm not surprised; the old MMFRPG discussion also tended to do that too, particularly when the players were waiting for the GMs to get online. tongue

So far, I'm seeing a surprisingly slow posting pace in the main thread. Is this normal, or just a one-off thing (judging by how fast this game day got to the current thread page from your starting post last week)?

Like I said, the speed varies.

We did have a number of players opt to sit out of the day, so the speed right now is probably a bit slower than if they hadn't, I'll admit.

We also still have that old MMFRPG pattern of the starts of new days going super fast for a bit before it slows down and evens out a bit.

  • Story: Tales of Graces (taken from within the 6-month timeskip between the Original and Future arcs)
  • Name: Sophie
  • Age: Appears to be about 13-14 years old
    • Gender: Female
    • Species: Appears to be human
  • Appearance: Height: 4'10"
  • Personality: Seemingly airheaded and flighty at first glance, there is much more to Sophie than what people see on the surface. Though she appears to lack much common sense (exemplified by almost walking off a cliff while chasing a butterfly), she can be acute and highly aware of things around her, though she must learn the 'proper' reactions to such things afterward. Despite her outward lack of emotion, she does know how to 'feel' - it's just that she has yet to be able to recognize and express these feelings with people, events, and most importantly herself. Still, one thing she is fairly aware of is the concept of camaraderie; she is able to develop strong bonds with the good people she meets, fueled by her desire to protect those important to her. She is often left confused by more complicated discussions (jokes are taken at face value, and double meanings fly right over her head), and her straightforward way of thinking means she takes many things too seriously. Despite not knowing much about the world, however, she is incredibly curious and inquisitive, often asking questions about everything; it doesn't matter to her if the question happens to be trivial or loaded (these kinds of questions tend to be unexpected and unintentional on her part).
  • Backstory: Sophie was discovered, alone and amnesiac, in a field of flowers by Asbel Lhant, preteen son of the region's ruling lord. Even though she quickly proved herself much more capable than him in both physical combat and eleth artes, the boisterous, but goodhearted child wasted no time in declaring himself her 'caretaker' when nobody in town recognized her - even going so far as giving her the name she now uses. Tragedy struck when Sophie sacrificed herself to protect Asbel and his friends from an unknown creature; her death would ultimately steer them all in different directions in life, for better or worse.
    • Seven years later, Asbel and his friends were slowly reunited by political turmoil throughout their world. It was during this time that the mysterious girl they met suddenly returned, seemingly unchanged save for forgetting all they had been through those years past. Nevertheless, as they journeyed under less-amiable circumstances than before, they found themselves remembering their happier past thanks to Sophie's presence, and eventually they reconciled their old and new differences, reforging their broken bonds into a truly unbreakable one. In turn, they soon gave Sophie the one thing she does not remember having: a family.
  • Skills, Powers and Abilities: Sophie uses a close-combat fighting style that utilizes unarmed and energy-based attacks; she can equip gauntlets and weighted anklets to improve her damage output. Her martial Assault Artes are fast, allow her to easily maneuver around her opponents to confuse them, and are able to hit multiple times for impressive damage. Her regenerative Burst Artes have an equal focus between single-target healing artes and light-based attacks. In addition, she is surprisingly resilient for her size, able to tank hits that would injure most people and still keep fighting, and even survive some fatal blows. All this is offset by the necessity of her fighting style: though she has a few mid-ranged artes, she must close the distance between her and her opponent to remain effective.
    • Note:Except for one attack, all of Sophie's offensive Burst Artes are copied and modified from similar attacks used by her canon allies, and she is implied to be able to continue learning these from other skilled fighters. In this case, she may be able to copy the attacks of the PCs she befriends in-game, given enough time.
    • In addition, Sophie is able to build up her eleth reserves during combat by siphoning back in any residual eleth she expends, as well as any compatible magical energy lingering in the area. Once she reaches maximum, she can attain a state known as Eleth Burst; in this state, Sophie becomes far more difficult to stagger, and her awareness and reflexes increase to the point that she can chain her attacks together far more effectively. It is also only in this state that she can unleash her Mystic Artes - powerful multi-stage attacks that are extremely hard to defend against if the first strike connects; once she uses any of her three Mystic Artes, her Eleth Burst state immediately ends.
  • Items: Sophie wears a waist satchel containing a small variety of healing items from her world.
    • Gels: ubiquitous healing items on Ephinea, roughly the size of a large coin and made by mixing the necessary fruit with a natural coagulating agent called gel seeds. Gently sweet and often eaten as snacks by youths, though its value in combat as a quick healing item is nevertheless maintained by Ephinea's warriors.
      • 5 Apple Gels: A red-colored gel. Heals light wounds.
      • 5 Peach Gels: An orange-colored gel. Heals moderate wounds.
      • 5 Grape Gels: A purple-colored gel. Heals severe wounds.
    • 10 small vials containing two types of medicines to treat various physical ailments. Both are made from Strahtan cactus juice mixed with select ingredients to produce the intended effect.
      • 5 Panacea Bottles: A powerful antitoxin that quickly heals a wide variety of ailments, such as poison.
      • 5 Syrup Bottles: An oral inoculation that significantly improves the drinker's immune system and renders them resistant to most ailments for a limited time, until it is naturally exhausted by their metabolism. This medicine does not heal ailments, however; it must be taken beforehand to be able to provide its effects.

There, it's up in a single post, so it's nice and neat. tongue I withheld spoilers for the original game, in case anyone here still wants to play it spoiler-free.

I originally thought of using Sophie's post-game version (as in after both of the PS3 rerelease's Original and Future arcs), but by that point, something has already happened to her that makes her power level extremely vague.

[up]At least I won't be coming in for a while longer, so you have some time to get through some of it. tongue Be warned though, if something backstory-related comes up that I may not be able to write around (like possibly Sophie's true nature), I may not have much choice but to talk about it.

From what I gather, fans see Graces' story as quite 'traditional' compared to other Tales entries; The Power of Friendship and all that stuff. For me, though, that's what makes the story: the characters are genuinely likeable and their bond formed over the course of the game is natural and heartwarming. Xillia may have been hampered in that regard by both its attempt to have two viewpoint characters and its apprently-rushed production time, which is why Xillia 2 is a thing (and so far, that game feels more like 'dark for the sake of dark' to me).

Alright, sorry this took as long as it did; these last few days I've been busy with work, running the RP, or finally getting a chance to hang out with my friends which I haven't been able to do for a while due to work. So, I'm not directly familiar with the "Tales Of" series and I don't think any of my friends are either. The entry for Sophie in the TV Tropes character page is not terribly extensive, but it seems to get the point across. Everything here seems accurate enough to me.

The only thing that I feel needs any addressing is her Eleth Burst, as a couple of its stated abilities do technically break the rules about OP characters; specifically the part about things that cannot be stopped or blocked in any way.

Basically it just needs to be still technically possible, just not easy, to stagger her; and same with blocking Mystic Artes even if the first strike does connect.

[up] I figured the Eleth Burst would be an issue here. tongue Like I mentioned above, it's the only way in the original game for the characters to use their Mystic Artes, so I tried implementing it in a believable manner out of a game system so Sophie could keep almost all of her moves (the rest appear in the Future arc, which this version of the character will not have learned yet). Admittedly, in the original game it's mitigated by the fact that enemies could Eleth Burst as well - and bosses had their own unblockable Mystic Artes (which, naturally, hurt like the dickens tongue).

Anyways, I edited the Eleth Burst entry to tone it down somewhat and add a bit more of fanwanky explanation to its condition for use, based on how it worked in the original game (pretty much like a party-wide super meter - though you and your allies dealing more damage built it up faster than taking damage, emphasizing the game's combo-centric system).

Alright, that looks good to me then.

Sophie is accepted.

If you decide you're going to join, you should first read the first post of the main thread to see what Sophie's arrival should be like; also check out the first post of discussion for helpful information and links such as a description of the city. That is unless you've done those already.

Given your current state of "maybe join, maybe not" I'll hold off on actually adding Sophie to the active character list just yet.

This looks interesting. And with my urge to RP being reignited, I think I might give it a go. grin

  • Story: Rise of The Guardians (End of the movie)

  • Name: Jack Frost

  • Age, gender, and species: 300+(Looks 17), Male, Winter Spirit

  • Appearance: Jack Frost

  • Personality: Jack Frost is a mischievous, sarcastic and fun-loving individual who prides himself in his work as the spirit of Winter and the Guardian of Fun. Once reckless and anti-social, Jack has slowly begun to mature and grow. He's heroic, and will stand against seemingly impossible odds for what he believes is right. He's carefree, and while not as irresponsible as he once was, still enjoys carelessly riding the winds, starting snowball fights and using his winter magic for the amusement of himself and children. A gentle and generous person, especially around children. He is, however, fairly awkward still and unused to affection.

  • Back story: Jack was born Jackson Overland Frost, a young human boy, who perished in a tragic accident in which he saved the life of his younger sister and fell into a frozen lake. Shortly after his death he was brought back by The Man in the Moon as the Spirit of Winter, with no memories of his former life. He then spent at least 300 years wandering the earth, only able to be seen by others like him, trapped in a lonely existence as he brought winter to the world and joy to children. Then, one day he was approached by the Guardians(Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Sandman, Easter bunny), figures of mythology whose purpose was to protect the children of the world and their belief, in their battle against Pitch Black, the Boogeyman. Pitch was eventually defeated, and Jack became a Guardian; Regaining his lost memories in the process and realising his purpose as the Guardian of Fun. To protect the children of the world, and bring them joy and fun.

  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Winter Magic- As the Spirit of Winter, Jack commands snow, ice and frost. He's able to freeze things using his staff, conjure ice, snow and frost with his mere presence (freezing winds, snowballs, snowflakes etc), and even unleash energy bolts of ice. He can use his magic to conjure icy projections from images drawn in ice, freeze water by walking on it and is immune to cold of any sort.
    • Flight- Jack is able to talk to the wind, and use it to fly. He drifts on the wind like a snowflake, and after 300 years of practice is incredibly skilled. He is able to use it to propel himself faster and drift and weave between buildings and cars with ease.
    • Magic of Fun- As the Guardian of Fun, Jack can use his magic to bewitch his snow and ice. When someone is hit by this magic snow, it brings out feelings of fun, joy and laughter. His preferred way of delivering it is snowflakes, and snowballs to the face.
    • Free Running/Ice-Skating- Jack is incredibly agile and quick, and uses this in addition to his flight to move quickly and easily across any surface, changing from ground to air and back with ease.
    • Superhuman Durability- As a Spirit, Jack is a bit more durable than the average person. Was able to survive a fall from a great height(High enough that there were clouds below him) and walk away nothing more than a little staggered and injured. However, he is still only as heavy and as strong as a teenager of his apparent age and size.
    • Staff Combat- Being over 3 centuries old, Jack has had a lot of time to learn different skills. His connection to his staff, and time having wielded it, has caused Jack to create a strange fighting style that is a mixture between free running and Martial Arts.

  • Items:
    • Twinetender- Jack's magic staff. A long wooden staff with a crook at the end, that Jack used to save his younger sister in the event that led to his death and rebirth. Originally thought to be the source of his powers, after his battle with Pitch when it was broken Jack realised that it was merely a conduit for his powers and that they were inside of him all along. Is almost a part of him, and it hurts Jack when broken, but can be repaired by him easily enough.

  • Other: Thanks to whatever force brought Jack to the city, he is able to be fully seen and interacted with, regardless of the person's belief in him.

@Alleydodger: Oh hey, a character I'm directly familiar with again! There's been quite a lack of those. I didn't actually know there were books, huh. I'd maybe try to read them sometime, but I don't really have the free time to read books anymore, unfortunately.

Now, it's been a while since I've seen the movie, so I'll preemptively admit that maybe my memory is a bit wrong.

To address your question in other first, unless there's some reason to indicate that the books and the movie are explicitly the same canon, I would believe that the movie is a typical retelling, and therefore a different but very similar canon. So the book!Jack Frost and the movie!Jack Frost would be two different people as far as this RP's rules are concerned.

As for the rest of the sheet and its accuracy, it seems mostly accurate from what I can remember, with just a couple things off.

I don't recall him ever talking to the wind. And to me, his movements didn't really seem like freerunning so much as they seemed like ice skating and snow boarding that he could just do anywhere thanks to his abilities; same with the way he moved during combat.

Now as far as things that should change according to the rules, his magic of fun does technically qualify under abilities that affect people mentally, and thus needs to be resistible. And for his winter magic, his ability to freeze things solid with a wave of his staff would be quite overpowered in a lot of scenarios; I'd ask that that be changed to, at best, casting like a wave of cold out from his staff as he swings it or something.
