Not seeing it there. And the caption doesn't make it any clearer. How is the guy with the money bag "making the rules? in fact, the lack of arms make it unclear who's even offering who the money bag.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Agreed. The image just does not work
I do not have any ideas for an image though, this one might have to go imageless.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I like 1+3, that works.
1+3 of 4 works fine for me.
I think using more than half a work is clearly not Fair Use.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. Since when? That's never been an issue before.
This image might be a little tall, but I wanted to see vertical arrangement without downsizing.
Sigh, there was a border on the right, but that new image uploader must have cropped it without me telling it to. (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I am not sure we've ever used two panels of a three-panel comic, and as far as I know we have used three panels of a four-panel comic once, which I said I thought was a bad idea.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Yes, we've used 2 panels of a 3-panel comic several times.
I can go along with 4 as well, so long as we can justify using 2 out of 3 panels.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMI'd like to point out for the record that "X shows Y how it's done" is probably the worst caption ever and should never be used.
"Yes, we've used 2 panels of a 3-panel comic several times."
Example?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. It has never ever been an issue in all my experience with IP. It don't know why you imagine that it is suddenly an issue now. If Willbyr says it's okay, it's probably okay. But if you need an example, Gone Horribly Right uses 3 panels from a 4 panel cartoon (discussion). So, I have no idea where you got that idea from.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. If it has not been an issue it is only because it hasn't come up. It is funny (in a very grim way) that a case was cited, as precedent, that I said at the time is a bad precedent. I bet there are no other examples.
I am not a copyright lawyer, but I know a bit about fair use, and while using fully half of a work seems like pushing it (really hard), using more than half of a work seems obviously not okay.
("Where that comes from" is a cursory understanding of fair use, for which there are no "hard rules". Like free speech, the judges and lawmakers who established it didn't want to limit the definition by strictly defining it, it is intentionally vague. However, one of four considerations for determining whether a use is fair is "The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole.")

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. There's actually a few more that use two or more panels of a comic (or even the entire thing) and as far as I know, none of them has caused a fuss:
- Air Hugging (Zits)
- Apes in Space (Dilbert)
- His Name Is... (Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal)
- Hitler's Time Travel Exemption Act (Subnormality)
- Multiple Demographic Appeal (FoxTrot)
- Nerds Love Tough Schoolwork (Angel Moxie)
- Pie in the Face (Hagar the Horrible)
- Snap Back (Pearls Before Swine)
- So Bad Its Horrible (xkcd)
- What Have We Ear? (Ozy and Millie)
- You Didn't See That (Garfield)
There's probably a few more that I don't even know about.

xkcd is a specific exception. We have been given explicit permission from the creator to use it freely for images.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Well alright, but as far as I know, the rest aren't and nothing happened to them. If they do have a problem with it, I'm sure they'll reason with TV Tropes and it'll be removed with no fuss. Wikis get edited constantly, so I'm sure the owners know this and would say, "Hey, I don't feel comfortable with you using my work, can you please take it down?"
I'm not saying you shouldn't ask for permission, of course. ("Hello, we think your comic is an accurate representation of a trope we feature on our site. Do you mind if we use this comic to illustrate said trope?") It's that it happens quite a bit and if somebody does have a problem with it, we'll be fine. It can be easily removed and we'll find something else to replace it. Life goes on.
The issue is not at all using more than two panels of a comic strip; it is using more than half of a work. Of that list, some are three-plus panel images from Sunday strips, some are only two panels out of (as far as I know) four, and one (His Name Is...) was a single-panel cartoon that should definitely go away. No solid counter-examples, and anyway "...none of them has caused a fuss" isn't a good reason to not edit a page.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. If using two panels is a problem, then could we just use the last panel, and modify the judge's speech bubble to include the text in the first one?

Well, I was going to continue, but I saw you removed the picture from His Name Is... It's a personal preference of mine, but I'd rather not have pictures suddenly removed because I showed off more evidence. So I'm just going to put a pin on it. Good luck figuring this out then.

It's a shame, because that was a really good image. You really shouldn't pull them without opening a thread, because then we can at least try to look for a replacement. Also, this thread isn't really the right place for this discussion. We should be having this in the IP discussion thread. Anyway, I hollered Willbyr regarding this issue. I think he should weigh in on it before we do anything else.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. There is no question of not being able to use single-panel cartoons. It is in the policy post. It's one of the few reasons to zap an image without discussion. I am kind of shocked at there being any resistance to that.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
I saw that there was an Image Pickin' thread in 2012, but it died without coming up with any good choices. Extra History just released a video about the South Sea Bubble, and they had an a perfect clip for this trope, so I'd like to suggest it.
