No airdate yet? Guess not. Any character who was a big player in the old series that we haven't seen yet? Or anyone you'd particularly like to see that hasn't been announced? Actually, wasn't there a duck sorceress who wanted Scrooge's Number One Dime because she thought it held powerful magic?

[up] Patience, my friend. Remember, we're all anxious about the air date.

Anyway, my thoughts:

  • Anyone else think it's hilarious they got Mr. Peanutbutter as Gladstone?
  • I am going to miss red-head Gyro, but let's see where this goes.
  • So Peach the Starfish as Glittering Goldie? Interesting choice...
  • I'll confess, it may have been this tweet from Frank Angones, but I was open to a Cloris Leachman type lady voicing Ma Beagle. Shame this isn't Ms. Leachman herself, but if this lady can pull off bossy matriarch, this may be a "not bad" choice.
  • Eric Bauza is capable of a lot of voices, so voicing the various Beagle Boys should be a cinch.
  • Again, anyone think it's hilarious they have Lord Hater as Glomgold?
  • A-ha! Our first Canon Foreigner! Let's see what he's got.

Ok, so it's a lot of "let's see where this goes", but no matter!

Lord Hater as Glomgold is just typecasting.

I'm just imagining Lord Hater with a Scottish Accent! [lol]

Lord Hater as Glomgold is PERFECT.

As a fan of BoJack Horseman I fully support casting Paul F. Tompkins and beloved character actress Margo Martindale. Since Ma Beagle isn't a character that originated from the comics, I've always been kinda lukewarm on her, but now you can colour me interested.

And I know everyone here is mentioning Lord Hater when discussing Glomgold, but wouldn't it be funnier if Ferguson voiced him like Deputy Durland? I also like their spin on the character: now his Scottishness actually has a reason.

I'm also interested in the Canon Foreigner. Casting an actor from Silicon Valley to voice a guy who got rich in a Silicon Valley way is spot on. Almost too on the nose, in fact.

Only if we could get onto airing the damn show already

Good news, everyone!

Tomorrow is Donald Duck's 83rd birthday, so we're getting a short wherein Donald has, fittingly enough, a birthday party!

And this short is the first of many! Because according to the hyperlink:

The new Duck Tales shorts will give viewers a glimpse at a few of Duckburg's beloved characters (Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Donald, Webby, Launchpad and Mrs. Beakley) and will debut on Disney XD and the Disney XD app. The Donald, Scrooge and Huey shorts will be available that day on the Disney XD You Tube page, followed by the Webby, Launchpad and Mrs. Beakley shorts available on Friday, June 16.

I also like that they are stating that Glomgold actually is not Scottish.

All the web-episodes got leaked, you can find them among others in the current /co / thread.

My favorites were the Huey and Launchpad episode.

The first short, where they celebrate Donald Duck's birthday:

The second(?) short, in which Huey goes camping.

EDIT: The third short, in which Louie and Uncle Scrooge find a most peculiar clock.

Scrooge doesn't seem at all crotchety/grumpy in any of these. Isn't that kind of a major character trait for him? We know Louie is the sarcastic one, and now because of that Huey short I'd guess he's going to be constantly quoting the Jr. Woodchuck manual, but what about Dewey?

Man, Uncle Scrooge looks like he will be having weird souvenirs he's gotten from his travels.

Of course they put a short with a time machine joke in it. Of course they couldn't resist. Great short.

They just had to have a Doctor Who allusion somewhere.

Scrooge crotchety and/or grumpy? Hmm...I dunno if that's the best description. He was combative and eccentric, and didn't suffer fools (or those suggesting he spend money) gladly. It's kind of a fine distinction, but an important one.

[up] But, he's called Scrooge McDuck. I don't know about the original Ducktales cartoon, but original-flavour Scrooge was a dick.

[up] Scrooge in the first DuckTales cartoon was significantly toned down in the "crotchety old dude" department.

I would imagine they're saving their take on Scrooge's grouchy side from when the show actually premieres.

The nicer Scrooge is what here in America are more familiar with. He was a bit of a cheapskate, but he was at heart a good person who is willing to look out for his family.

I think the opening five-parter from the original series had him start off as a little crotchety? And him becoming more easy-going was a major point of the opening five-parter? Or was it that he was too obsessed with money and was going to choose a treasure over his family? It was something like that? And I know Scrooge is good person at heart, but he should be at least a little grumpy and/or miserly.

I've read a lot of the Barks adventure stories, and even there I'd say that crotchety and grumpy aren't really the best descriptors for him. He's egocentric, selfish, and, to a degree, monomaniacal. While he does care for his family, he doesn't have too many qualms about putting them in danger for really stupid reasons (something that Donald, more or less alone among Scrooge's circle, was willing to call him on).

What I'm saying is, he can be disagreeable, but "crotchety and grumpy" don't quite imply the right flavor.

Someone mentioned a Huey and Launchpad short? Where can I see that? Actually, how many shorts are we getting in total?

So I just found out that Launchpad's Transplant from the original Duck Tales to Darkwing Duck was meant to be a Transplant to TaleSpin.

That would have been pretty cool, since he'd have fit in quite well (what with actually being a pilot). I kinda wish that would have happened now.
