Ok, per mod decision, the purpose of this thread is to scrutinize and clean up pages about web sites. Other Sites, especially, has become a catch-all for "my favorite web site that I feel like pimping."

THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS:

  • A Web Site Is Not A Work For Troping Purposes: A website can contain tropable content, but the site itself does not automatically have a place with us simply by existing.
  • A Web Site That Is Not Tropable Can Sometimes Be Repurposed: It may have a place as a Useful Notes page, or serve as an index if it hosts a lot of works that we do trope.
  • User Antics Are Not Tropable: Trolls, mod decisions, forum drama. Such are Troper Tales and sources of spiritual decay. They must be purged, even from acceptable pages.
  • User Created Content Is Potentially Tropable: But most of it has its own categories already, such as Game Mod, Fan Fiction, or Journal Roleplay.

Put pages you believe should be completely cut in the crowner at the bottom. If you believe a page can be saved or migrated, make a post with details. Other Sites contains the primary targets right now, but any page about a web site should be scrutinized

Seconded.

Anyways, cutlisted Zeldathon. There's a bit of inbounds, though.

Girl Writes What should have a full vote considering the number of inbounds, I'd say.

[up] Are those inbounds we want to keep, however? I mean, we've cut articles that attract drama before.

How do we decide which Web Video and Blogs to keep?

[up] IMHO, it should be done on the basis of whether it's an actual work of fiction or not. For example, if I wanted to make a page about the official GAINAX-licensed Character Blog for Shinji Ikari, My Tragic Existence (yes, I just made that up), that would a get a page here. But if I was to make about my Word Press anime blog, Awesome Anime, it would get deleted, as it's not a work of fiction, it's just me talking about works of fiction.

Added GWW.

As for FSTDT, that seems safe to call, right?

Time Cube: yeah that should be cut, It's a crazy Conspiracy Theory and while ofthen fictional, I don't think it would be wise to keep pages meant at promoting or mocking RL batshit guesses like that.

I came across Sponge Buddy Mania, which a Spongebob Squarepants forum. A lot of the page seems to be troping about the user-base. The main page lists Fan Dumb and Flame War, the YMMV page has Scrappy entries about specific users, and the Trivia page has some examples that lack context (how are Fred & Lenny Ascended Memes for instance?). Can this page be salvaged?

While cleaning up ghost wicks I came across Sheroes Central, which by and large does not seem like a work page, but a topical message board that tropes its users. It's also completely orphaned.

Is there a minimum number of votes on this crowner required to call items?

Submitted the subpages of that one to the cutlist. Should the wicks be removed as well?

ETA: Also added Sheroes Central to the crowner.

Dewicking is almost complete. There's a page quote on Gravity Is Only a Theory; I've submitted a different one in the quotes cleanup thread.

During wick cleaning I also came across Microaggressions, which seems to be exactly the same form of Troper Tales.

Somebody mentioned Tumblr a while back in this thread, but nothing came of it. Since the page is completely about troping the site's community (including the "Social Justice" blogs, which probably goes against the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement), it probably wouldn't be missed if we deleted it.

There may be roleplay/fiction-based parts of the site that may be tropable, but they can have their own page.

Well, social justice blogs don't count as tropable works anyway, judging by the crowner.

Actually, atleast one part of that section has a page here.

Kinda split over possibly letting Memes.Tumblr go. It's fun to read, but at the same time:

Submitted the subpages to the Cutlist, begun dewicking.

Looking at the page for Rational Wiki, I do wonder why we have work pages for wikis in general. With the exception of specifically work-oriented wikis like Wookiepedia (Star Wars), do the generalist/political ones really count as works for the purpose of this site? The Other Wiki is interesting only in so far as explaining the different with TV Tropes, though even that was a lot more relevant in the early years since This Very Wiki has became something of a household name itself since then. FFS, there's even a page for a Neo Nazi wiki.

If that Fundies page isn't dead now, kill it. It's just pointless drama and adds nothing useful to the site.

Why does it need to add anything useful to the site?
