Every time I go to look at this page, I keep thinking that the current image is very lacking for several reasons:

  1. The quality is relatively low.

  2. Even though the caption says the eyes are choppy, I find that very difficult to notice even with intensive staring.

  3. I'm not noticing any serious context to clarify that the trope is taking place.

I have a new suggestion in mind: this picture from Manabi Straight! Episode 5's prologue. Tell me what you think.

These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.

I can certainly see the "choppy irises" better in the suggestion. The rest of the facial appearance also more strongly suggests "about to cry" as well.

Suggestion is better.

I really do not like the rest of the face there.

This one is going to be hard without a gif though, this trope has to look something like [1]

Also I am calling BS on 'this is not a comedy trope' this is a big thing in a Boke and Tsukkomi Routine when the Boke knows he or she took things too far and know a slap is on the way or a Dojikko about to Cry Cute.

The animation there conributes nothing. I can see the quivering even without having it move.

[up] That's a decent suggestion. Just please keep this in mind: it's not just about whether or not you like certain parts of the pic, it's about clearly demonstrating the trope with has much objective context as possible. As Madrugada said, the cheeks in the OP did add credence to the picture from his/her perspective.

I would argue that the Super-Deformed look completely ruins the intended effect of this trope at least in that still image.

The viewer or the person about to take action against the one with the eyes going are suppose to feel sorry for him/her, the SD look makes it just look weird.

I don't think it "ruins it completely" but the suggestion in 6 is, to me, even better. And that's coming from someone who doesn't watch anime at all.

[up][up] Yes, It's Puni Plush, but not necessarily Super-Deformed. Here's a version of the OP with the subtitled dialouge in tact so you can better understand what is actually going on.

[down] You can't blame me for trying, but let's see what everyone else thinks.

Oh I have seen the series and yes the series runs on Puni Plush style the series has good character designs however that particular image is so deformed that it just ruins the effect of the trope as well as is just strange without context of the series itself.

Great now I gotta go watch it again...

Imgur's blocked here so I can't see the OP's suggestion. 6 works for me pending the OP being uploaded.

I find 6 to be better. The deformity in the OP looks way too Off-Model for me, so it's just distracting.

Ugh, HELL NO to the bloated face. We don't need to be distracting from the trope we are trying to illustrate.

Even disregarding the weird puffy cheeks in the OP, I'd say 16 does better on the eyes.

Considering the brevity of the description, a smaller version of that pic would probably be better...if the effect looks good at 250 px, I'd say let's do that.

Bumping this.

What do we do about the description? It flat out says it's not a comedy trope but both pics in the thread are from comedy series and done for comedic effect. Heck a majority of the examples I can think of are comedic and teamed up with Crying Cute.

Yes, this trope can be Played for Drama, but I think that description should be it's own paragraph. We can introduce the Played for Laughs/Rule of Cute version as another paragraph while we're at it.
