Discussion Thread Roleplay Thread

Hello, and welcome to Out of Context.

What is Out of Context? In this RP, you will sign up with characters from different universes, just like your run of the mill crossover RP. But here, instead of worlds or missions or challenges, your characters will be put through Alternate Realities. Perhaps today they're on a High School alternate universe? Or on the next time, they'll be on a Pirate alternate universe? Or maybe even a [Insert Franchise Here] alternate universe? The options are limitless, and the combination of crossovers and mish mash alternate realities will allow us to create something much, much bigger.

Us? Yeah, us! You will be able to put your suggestions for alternate universes in the discussion thread, and the people will get to choose which will be used later. Even a kooky idea can lead to a great alternate universe! Everything's on the table, from a power switch alternate universe, to a 'everyone's an amoeba' alternate universe!

Specifications? Out of Context is more of an anthology than a RP with an overarching plot. The only thing connecting each alternate universe is the characters! That means we can come up with any wild idea, and if we feel the current alternate universe isn't working, it can be switched! Also, this is canon characters only- unless we're talking semi-original characters, characters which don't have canon backstories, appearances, etc, since they are customizable to the player, like the player character in an Elder Scrolls game.

Give me a sheet! Here it goes!

  • Name:
  • Appearance: [Pictures or words.]
  • Universe of Origin: [If there's a trope page, all the better!]
  • Personality: [This is the one thing that will always remain the same in the alternate universes, so do it well!]
  • Powers and Abilities: [You don't need a powerful character, but since alternate universes might mix with this, it's nice to have it written somewhere.]
  • Backstory: [I know, this thing will probably change more than... insert great metaphor here, but it's nice to provide a template, and to at least give other players an idea of where your character comes from.]

Quick question, how many characters can we play? I've got two I'd like to play, but I'm having a bit of difficulty picking between both of them.

I'll work on mine tomorrow, but before I start, how would non human characters fare in this type of RP? If we have a setting where monstrous or animal or alien characters wouldn't easily fit in (like a regular high school) what happens? Do they get humanized or stay the same but everyone just doesn't care?

It depends, really. I mean, for your High School example, you could have them be humanized or them not be humanized with no one carying.

  • Name: Ben Birdland / Big Band
  • Appearance: Downtempo. Back on the beat!
  • Universe of Origin: Skullgirls
  • Personality: Even before his sudden transformation, Ben's always been a pretty even tempoed tempered guy. Friendly, laid-back, and just generally an easy guy to get along with, it's kind of a shock he's made as many enemies as he has. But, considering his powerful sense of justice and tendency to mouth off to the wrong people, maybe not. Big Band's a lawman to the core, and any crooks in his way are liable to get the evil eye at best, and a high-speed mouthful of brass at worst. Even with all the jazz paraphernalia at his beck and call, his chief instrument still remains the sassaphone. Even when he's not actively duking it out with anybody, Ben gives more than a little lip to anybody on his bad side.
  • Powers and Abilities: Fighting game powersets can get kinda wonky, so I'll try and some this up as best I can. Essentially, Big Band's one part Iron Man and one part iron lung, with a whole jazz quartet mixed in there for good measure. The majority of what used to be Ben's been cleared away to make room for an array of powerful hydraulic weaponry that just happens to look like giant instruments. Triangles, tubas, tympanis, you name it and he's probably got it stashed away under his coat. He's also crazy strong and just about as tough as he looks, but he's almost comically slow without the aid of short-range rocket boosters, which are a thing he also happens to have.
  • Backstory: Ben's story isn't an uncommon one: the only straight cop on a crooked beat, trying to keep the streets of New Meridian safe even when nearly everybody he knows is on the take from the mafia. Of course, most stories like his don't end with the straight cop beaten within an inch of his life in an abandoned warehouse, but that's just how things turned out. Thankfully, the fine folks of Lab 8, one of many government institutions dedicated to weapons research in the pursuit of destroying the powerful undead monstrosities known as Skullgirls, managed to swoop in before he completely kicked the bucket. Using several experimental and most likely hazardous methods, the eggheads bonded poor bleeding Ben into a hulking brass framework that both kept him alive and turned him into a powerful fighting machine.

Probably should've registered my interest earlier and, y'know, actually thought this through, but whatever. One Jazz Robocop cooked up and ready to serve.

Name: Samuel "Jetstream" Rodrigues

Appearance: Here

Universe of Origin: Metal Gear Rising

Personality: Sam is a rather cocky swordsman, fully confident in his own ability's and always ready to put them to the test against any worthy opponents.

Powers and Abilities: Sam is a Iaijutsu Practitioner who uses a Murasama sword that has been modified into an HF blade, giving it exceptional cutting power against just about anything he comes up against. He has also modified his sheath with a gun trigger, enabling him to fire the sword out to greatly increase the speed and power of the draw.

Backstory: Sam's family owned a sword fighting dojo, and growing up, he became a master swordsman who practices the Brazilian "New Shadow School" technique. He spends his days walking the earth, destroying criminal groups and others who attacked helpless people.

(Sorry the backstory part is so short, but most of it is very plot related, and probably won't come into play in this RP.)

  • Name: Spawn

  • Appearance: Posing for a picture.

  • Universe of Origin: Spawn

  • Personality: Spawn is a cold, gruff, and brooding abomination, but he is by no means as evil as he looks. Though he was intended to bring forth chaos and violence into the mortal world, Spawn uses his sinister powers to protect the innocent, no matter how much they spurn him. However, his efforts to do good sometimes have unforeseen consequences, and he is quite naïve.

  • Powers and Abilities: As a demonic/undead "Hellspawn", Spawn has strength, speed, agility, and endurance beyond what the average human can achieve. He is full of "Necroplasm", a green substance that is commonly found in Hell's spheres—he bleeds Necroplasm when injured, and he can channel it from his body in various forms. Spawn's costume is actually a half-sentient organism named Leetha of the 7th House of K, which is bound to his nervous system.

  • Backstory: Al Simmons was a government agent until he was betrayed by his superiors and killed. Sent to Hell for his sins, Al Simmons sold his soul to the devil in exchange for being reunited with his wife, only to be brought back to Earth as a demonic Hellspawn. Now known as 'Spawn', Al uses his dark powers to fight evil, be it supernatural or "mundane".

  • Name: Meta Knight
  • Appearance: "You have much yet to learn."
  • Universe of Origin: Kirby
  • Personality:: A quiet and almost impossibly calm person, Meta Knight values strength and honor. He will gladly give his opponent a blade to fight him with, and enjoys a fight where he feels challenged. He's been known to start rivalries with particularly strong foes, but this does not stop him from speaking to them on friendly terms. Indeed, he usually will wait patiently for a chance to fight one-on-one with those he deems worthy, and will otherwise be cordial, if reserved. Meta Knight generally realizes that some conflicts are more important than personal ones, and will put aside even long-held grudges for the sake of saving others. There are few he would call true friends, but for those that worm their way into his heart he does care for them, even if he appears to be indifferent, and will fight to protect them.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • One with the Sword: Meta Knight is skilled with the sword, striking lightning fast. His sword is called Galaxia, and in addition to being made of a nigh-indestructible uneartly metal, can shoot Sword Beams.
    • Dimensional Cape: Meta's cape allows him to teleport short distances, and can turn into wings that allow him to fly. (As a member of Kirby's race, he can technically fly without them, but wingless flying is slower and makes it difficult to use his sword).
    • Mach Tornado: Meta Knight's strongest attack, he creates a flaming tornado and sends it at his opponents.
  • Backstory: He once tried to invade Dreamland as he grew tired of the denizens being lazy, only for Kirby to defeat him. Afterwards, he went on a journey to train himself, eventually defeating the legendary warrior Galacta Knight. Since then he has battled the heroic Kirby several times, but when the world/galaxy/universe is at stake, he will put aside rivalries and stand alongside Kirby and King Dedede to protect it.

If anything is objectionable, please let me know so I can try and fix it.

If you want an idea of how Highlander style Immortality works, please let me know.

  • Name: Khârn the Betrayer
  • Appearance: KILL! MAIM! BURN!
  • Universe of Origin: Warhammer 40,000
  • Personality: As one would expect of the Blood God's greatest mortal Champion, Khârn absolutely revels in combat and has been known to attack friend and foe alike when he enters the fray. Despite his berserker tendencies, Kharn is remarkably intelligent and well spoken during the very rare occurrence that he isn't fighting. Like all World Eaters, Khârn has had the Butcher's Nails implanted into his nervous system, increasing his aggressive tendencies greatly and making him quick to anger (and thus quick to enter a berserk rage). It should also be noted that Khârn absolutely abhors cowards and has been known to attack his allies if they show the slightest hint of retreat.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Gorechild: While not a power or ability per se, Khârn's finesse with the ancient Chainaxe is quite a sight to behold. Gorechild is capable of tearing through the armour of a Space Marine in the hands of a novice user. Khârn has been using Gorechild for thousands of years, so you can imagine just how well he wields his signature weapon (and presumably axes in general).
    • Since he's clad head to toe in Space Marine Power Armour (with the exception of his left arm), Khârn is understandably durablenote .
    • Blessing of the Blood God: Since Khârn is Khorne's favourite Champion, the Blood God has granted him complete protection against psychics and a general resistance towards regular magic.
  • Backstory: To cut a very long story short, Khârn was one of the very first members of the World Eaters Space Marine legion that would fall to Chaos during the events of the Horus Heresy. Selected as the Primarch Angron's second in Command (Believe it or not, Khârn was selected because of his ability to keep Angron calm) and served the World Eaters and Angron loyally throughout the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. During the Battle of Terra, Khârn led every charge on the Imperial Palace without hesitation. When the battle of Terra ended, Khârn lay dead atop a pile of corpses and was carried back to the World Eaters' ship where he somehow was revived (it has been assumed that Khorne had a hand in bringing Khârn back from the dead). At a later battle on the planet Skalathrax, the World Eater's advance upon their enemy was stalled by incredibly cold weather. This upset Khârn greatly as he wanted to get back into the fray. So naturally, Khârn decided that the best way to get back to fighting would be to warm up his allies. With a flamethrower. It was at this point in the battle that Khârn flew off the handle and began slaughtering friend and foe alike, earning him the title of "The Betrayer". Now Khârn moves throughout the galaxy, battling numerous adversaries and taking as many skulls as possible for Khorne.

Hell of a guy that Khârn

  • Name: Connor MacLeod
  • Appearance: Hey, it's a kind of magic.
  • Universe of Origin: Highlander
  • Personality: Connor is a fairly reserved man, due in part to having seen so many close friends, both mortal and Immortal, die throughout the years. However, when around people he's known for a fair amount of time (such as friendly Immortals), Connor has been known to drop his barriers and become a fairly friendly and social person. One of Connor's most defining characteristics is his stubbornness in the face of adversity, something which has nearly cost him his head on numerous occasions and saved it just as many times. No matter how high the odds are stacked against him, Connor MacLeod will never give up.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Immortality: Connor is Immortal and can only be killed permanently if someone cuts off his headnote , so far no one's managed to do so. Despite his immortality, Connor still feels pain and can be "killed" temporarily if someone inflicts mortal wounds upon him (i.e. if Connor were to take a dozen bullets to the chest) only to wake up at a later time assuming no one cuts off his head while he's out of commission.
    • Connor is a master fencer and is quite adept at fighting with most varieties of swords.
    • In scenarios where he is without his signature sword, Connor is capable of defending himself with his bare hands.
    • When Connor takes the head of a fellow Immortal, he gains that Immortal's memories.
    • Connor is a decent Blacksmith, capable of repairing and forging swords.
  • Backstory: In the year 1536, Connor MacLeod was mortally wounded in a battle with a rival clan by The Kurgan, later that night he died and awoke the next day to accusations of witchcraft and demon possession by his clansmen. Exiled from his home village of Glenfinnan, Connor became a blacksmith's apprentice and later married his teacher's daughter. It was around this time that Connor began learning about his newfound immortality under Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (who we'll be referring to as Ramirez from here on out). Ramirez taught Connor everything he could about Immortality and the various tenets that the Immortals of the world lived by. As Connor's training under Ramirez ended, The Kurgan (If you haven't guessed by now, The Kurgan is Connor's archenemy) showed up to claim his head, only to find Ramirez in his place. The Kurgan was none too pleased with this and promptly killed Ramirez. Taken aback by the loss of his teacher, Connor chose to remain in Scotland until his wife died. When she did, he began wandering the world and learning as much as he could so he might avenge Ramirez and claim the Kurgan's head. Four centuries later, Connor is one of the last few Immortals on earth and is living comfortably as an Antiques dealer in New York City during the time of The Gatheringnote .

If you want an idea of how Highlander style Immortality works, please let me know.

If I recall correctly, it doesn't make them any more durable than a normal human; it's just that the only way to make them stay dead is to take their head off. But I could be wrong.

Name: Maud Pie

Appearance:

Universe of origin: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WesternAnimation/MYLITTLEPONYFRIENDSHIPISMAGIC

Personnality: Maud rarely makes her emotions knows, she almost always have the same expression on her face and speak with a really monotone voice. To makes matter worse, she is obsessed with rocks and is very literal-minded, wich makes socializing with other a almost impossible task for her. Despite that, she care a lot about her sisters and would do anything to protect them. She also has a pet rock named Boulder.

Powers and abilities: She is incredibly strong, capable of throwing a rock so hard that the impact look just like a bomb exploding and drill into a stone with just her bare hooves. She is also incredibly fast, to boot.

Backstory: She has lived on the Pie family's rock farm for all her life.

@Comrade: Accepted.

@Meanken: Accepted.

@Tails Doll: Accepted.

@Kagescorpion: Accepted.

@Eachiunn: Both are fine, and since powers/immortality is something that can be added/removed as the AU sees fit, I don't have many problems with it. Although, I am gonna ask you to choose one of the two.

@Alexcoene: Accepted. For the sake of convenience, is there a human version of the character- as this will most likely happen a lot considering her nature?

Butt on over to the discussion thread and start working on A Us.

  • Name: Bumblebee
  • Appearance: Oy.
  • Universe of Origin: Transformers Prime
  • Personality: 'Bee grew up quickly in the war for his home planet; any youthful enthusiasm he possesses is tempered by a great deal of combat experience. The loss of his vocal processor, toward the end of the war, means that he frequently has trouble expressing himself and communicating with others.
  • Powers and Abilities: Other than being able to transform into things (usually a sports car, although obviously this might change), Bumblebee is also armed with a pair of wrist mounted energy weapons. His most notable feature is, however, his damaged voicebox, rendering him largely mute. This injury carries over from form to form; he might have an injured throat as a human, or simply become something that can't easily communicate with the rest of the group -like a dog or cat- depending on the universe he's in.
  • Backstory: As part of the last generations of Cybertronians ever produced, Bumblebee has never known a life not wracked by war. With his vocal processor another casualty of the war, he travelled with Optimus Prime to Earth in the hopes of finding a new home to inhabit.

  • Name: Elliot Dunkel (Cheerleadra)
  • Appearance: from the character page(Cheerleadra form)
  • Universe of Origin: [1]
  • Personality: A reserved teen, Elliot is unlikely to strike up conversation or do things he hasn't before without being prompted. Once he gets to know people he gets a lot more open and friendly. He's also afflicted with strong chronic hero syndrome.
  • Powers and Abilities: a black belt in "Anime style martial arts", which is thought in one place by 'sensei Greg', an otaku who figured out how to unleash hidden powers from within.
    • Can transform into Cheerleadra, where he gains the powers of flight and brickiness, as well as 'voloputous breath'
  • Backstory: A former student of martial arts, he used his skills to fight bullies, a habit he's grown out of. Said martial arts also directly resulted in him gaining the power to turn into a female superhero.

I kept the backstory short and general. Elliot technically has two unmentioned powers, but one is somewhat boring (A halfcat form that gives claws and fur, kind of useless so omitted and also the power to change shape into any female form, which is just confusing at best and overpowered if abused)

Powers and Abilities: Proficient at 11 Celestial brush techniques (wields a giant brush if human), uses 3 types of divine instruments (Mirror, Rosary, Glaive), above-average strength and durability for a boy/pup his age, incredibly adorable.

  • Name: Makoto Kino

• Appearance: Regular and Transformed

• Universe of Origin: Sailor Moon

• Personality: Makoto is courageous, protective, supportive, and loyal to the people she sees as her friends, and is willing to fight to the end for them. This combined with her tall, intimidating stature and her temper has given her a reputation as a troublemaker. Underneath all of that, Mako is more feminine than she first seems, enjoying cooking, cleaning, and gardening just as much as she does martial arts and the thrill of a good fight. Makoto tends to be very sincere and straightforward with others, and lying or hiding her feelings is a difficult task for her. She is easily distracted by people who remind her of the boyfriend who dumped her in the past, and crushes on them frequently, but can also get over them and move on just as fast.

• Powers and Abilities: Makoto possesses a near abnormal amount of strength that allows her to pick up and throw a fully grown person with relative ease, and durability to match it. Her martial arts training along with this gives her incredible close combat skills. She also has electrical and plant related powers, allowing her to create and use lightning in multiple attacks, and to trap opponents in whirlwinds of flower petals.

• Backstory: Makoto's parents were killed in a plane crash when she was at a young age, leaving her to live in an orphanage and eventually an apartment by herself with nothing but monetary support from a trust fund. She jumped from school to school, getting into fights with bullies and never really making friends. She finally settled down in one place during middle school, where someone finally looked past her exterior and became friends with her. Those new friends quickly led Makoto to awakening as the reincarnation of Sailor Jupiter, and she and the other Sailor Guardians now battle the many forms of evil that constantly threatens Tokyo.

Oh I have just a man for this RP.

  • Name: Lotton, surname unknown. Referred to as "Lotton the Wizard".
  • Appearance: "My name is Wizard." "Lotton the Wizard."
  • Universe of Origin: Black Lagoon
  • Personality: Lotton is... definitely not quite out there. He definitely is a mercenary and that much is certain, but he doesn't seem to fit the part on his character. Prone to long-winded speeches and striking cool poses he's a distraction at best and a meat shield at worst. To actually make him go attempt pulling a trigger those he holds dear would have to be threatened. Otherwise, he's more concerned with looking cool. Outside the job - or even in the middle of it, really - he's a perfectly sane and moral, well-meaning, gentle individual. An avid videogamer and non-drinker - as he claims, he's allergic to alcohol.
  • Powers/Abilities:
    • He's noticeably sturdier than an average man, having survived a drop from a warehouse's roof into solid asphalt, after being shot nonetheless.
    • Comes equipped with a bulletproof vest, likely to make up for his violations of common sense. Also has a metal codpiece to prevent Groin Attacks.
    • Dual wields full-auto Broomhandle Mausers. Now if he could only make use of them...
  • Backstory: There's not much to tell: one day a handsome, mysterious adventurer stumbled upon a pack of mercs out to hunt the so-called Greenback Jane. The hunt backfired spectacularly, but Lotton not only managed to walk on his own legs out of this, but also rescue two now friends of his. Well, good associates, supposedly. As of now he's mostly living in the most inappropriate place for someone as disconnected from harsh reality as himself, the wretched hive that is Roanapur.

  • Name: Faiza Hussain (Excalibur)
  • Appearance: Civilian. Costume.
  • Universe of Origin: Marvel Comics (Earth 616)
  • Personality: Faiza tends to be emotional, speaking her mind about things she considers important. Her morals are also very strong and she will stick to them, helping people whenever she can, even if it puts her in danger. She sometimes worries as to whether she's good enough but failure tends to just strengthen her resolve.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Faiza has medical training and is a skilled doctor.
    • Faiza has fairly good fighting skills if she can find a blade.
    • If magic is present, she can use it to disguise her face.
    • Living Cross-Section: She has the power to disassemble and reassemble a living creature in order to heal them, also producing a blue glow and immobilizing the target while she does so. This power can also be abused in order to temporarily paralyze a being without healing them. However, somebody can break out of this and she can't use it for a long period, especially if she targets more than one being at once. It works better on shape-shifters but much worse on magical beings.
    • She is the chosen one of Excalibur, so in any universe where it exists she will be able to find or summon it. Excalibur is a powerful sword which never dulls and does extra damage to supernatural evil.
  • Backstory: Faiza was a doctor who worked in the field in London during a Skrull invasion of Earth. When trying to save The Black Knight, she discovered her healing ability and before the battle was over, also discovered her status as Excalibur's chosen wielder. With these abilities, she became a superhero, working with MI-13.
