So, Did It Work?

"But, but I don't know if I can, or should do it!" a very young Elsa stuttered to the green frog held in her hands. "Maybe, maybe you should wait for my sister to come back! I'm sure I would only—"

"There's no time!" the frog said, waving his arms around. "You said she and your parents will come back tomorrow, right? Well, if I'm not kissed by a princess before midnight, I'll stay a frog forever!"

Elsa drew in a very deep and long breath. "Okay," she said, hoping for the best as her mouth went closer to the frog's. "I, I'll try..."

—-

"So, it did work, in a way," Elsa explained for Anna, Kristoff and Olaf, as she opened the door of her secret fridge, revealing the frozen young prince inside. "But of course, until now, it's not like I could have defrosted him, so..."

Anna blinked. "Huh. Good thing he was from a deposed family or now we'd have broken ties with yet another country..."

So here's another somewhat eerie example of my fanfics predicting Frozen Fever without me even trying to. At the end of Frozen Fever, all the mini-snowmen go to live in the Ice Palace with Marshmallow, and there's a joke where they flood the palace and Olaf gives every single one of them a Punny Name the way he did Marshmallow.

Well, my fanfic, which was written ages before we had any preview info about Frozen Fever at all, has pretty much the exact same scene, only with regular-sized snowmen. (Ctrl F to "Now that the eternal winter was once again gone...") I think this is because of two things:

1. The "army of snowmen" idea was something I took from an unused Frozen plot thread, which is probably also where Frozen Fever got the idea of the mini-snowmen from.

2. Both my joke and Frozen Fever's joke are a Call-Back to Olaf naming Marshmallow.

So I guess this isn't a complete coincidence, but still. I'll take any similarities between my fanfics and official Frozen sequels as a good sign.

It seems Frozen has overtaken Labyrinth in the number of fics on Fanfiction.net (I know, quantity is not quality and all that, but it's a fun metric anyway). Now to beat Thor...

Don't Go In the Woods...

"And you'll stay here!" the Beast roared, slamming the doors close, and leaving Belle trapped inside, before storming away, down the hall, growling to himself.

After a few moments of muted, rattled shock, she sat down and hid her hand between her hands, to sob and cry her despair...

"Oh, you wandered in as well, didn't you?" a voice asked from behind her.

Startled, Belle spun around and saw a girl around her age, with the longest golden hair she had ever seen, and barefoot, waving at her. "Hello! I'm Rapunzel! And this is Snow..."

"I was fleeing from my stepmother's killers when I found this place!" a younger pale beauty with short black hair bowed.

"... Briar Rose...."

"... I guess I walked too far from my aunts' cabin, and got lost into the woods..." another blond young woman sighed.

"... Anna..."

"I was looking for my lost sister, but I think I wandered a bit too Southward..." a freckled girl with her brown hair into braids sighed.

"... Candace..."

"It was my brothers' fault! They built this weird dimensional portal, see?! When I get back, they're SO BUSTED!" cried another, thin red-haired girl, madly waving her arms around.

"... Cinderella..."

"I know it might be difficult to believe, but I was in a carriage at midnight, rushing back home, and it turned into a pumpkin, and I got lost from there..." another blonde, with shorter hair and surrounded by mice, gestured with exasperation.

"... and Flynn! He, well, he had promised taking me to the city with all the beautiful nocturnal lights, but... well, let's just say his talents don't lie in guided tourism," Rapunzel finished, gesturing with a sigh towards a roguishly handsome black haired young man.

He was smirking with a goofy absent expression. "I don't want to ever leave this castle!" he chirped.

"..." Belle said.

Every Group Has One...

"So, what's the deal with Little Red Riding Hood, anyway?" the reporter asked them. "Why don't we ever see her in your lineup? What's about her, that she's one of the two major storybook protagonists to never get appearances at Disney?"

At that question, Alice, Wendy, Jasmine, Belle, Aurora, Cinderella, Mulan, Pocahontas, Elsa, Anna, Snow White, Ariel, Tiana and Rapunzel all began sharing awkward, nervous glances.

Then the door was kicked open, and in stomped a small blond girl wearing a red cape and bonnet, with the smell of gunpowder trailing behind her, and a tiny shaggy dog yapping after her. She slammed her picnic basket down on the table, and heavy metal clanked inside, the tip of an elephant gun poking out the white cover.

"Damn, that was a rough job!" the cute blonde growled, tossing her bonnet aside. "You bitches will never believe it; me, Anakaris, Felicia and Morrigan were duking it out when we were pulled into a vortex along some clowns in superhero tights and a pirate whore, and we ended up fighting this really huge Darkstalker out to destroy the world... but eh, once you figured its patterns out, it was a piece of cake. Hey, who's the geek, and why are you talking to him? Fuck, you're giving interviews without me again, aren't you? And I'll bet you haven't cooked dinner yet, either! Hey, Timmy Turner!" she angrily waved her handgun towards Cinderella. "It's your turn tonight, so get those hands on the stove already! I'm starving, because unlike others around here, I actually work!"

"My apologies, my apologies! I lost track of the time!" Cinderella bowed in panic, before rushing away for the kitchen.

"Yeah, keep that up and I'll lose track of something else, too!" Hood huffed, before grabbing a chair and sitting on it, backwards, her arms tossed over the chair's back, facing the reporter. "You aren't snooping around over what happened to Goldilocks, are you, dweeb?"

"Uhhhhhhh..." he sweated profusely.

"... technically, I'm not a storybook character," Pocahontas said. "I'm a historical figure."

"Shut up, poser, any semblance between you and reality is a mere coincidence," Hood told her.

"I'm an Original Character!" Anna chirped.

Hmm. I have to agree with Spash, figuring out what Elsa can do with her powers is fun.

Flight makes sense because she already can blow herself around winter winds. I've given her access to lightning thanks to thundersnow, and her icy magic has essentially cryogenically preserved her for several hundred years. tongue

[up]I'm revising it as we speak. How'd you know? Did you notice it has 81 chapters now instead of 82? I fused the old chapters 14 and 15 together because chapter 15 was, like, 2000 words long. It was the shortest chapter in the whole story, and it picked up right where 14 left off, and there's not really a need for dramatic cliffhangers anymore since it's all one complete story now anyways.

By the way, I got a really good idea for Trials of Anna last night, so I'll be writing that at some point in the future.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

I watched the word count shrink. And the loss of a chapter, making me have to redo a number of bookmarks I'd made for chapters in the story after chapter 14.

The entire art gallery trip has to be one of my favorite sequences. I mean, it's dramatic and funny all at the same time. I think the funniest part is the cut between Anna, Elsa and Kristoff confronting the guy that is caught painting "Helsa" paintings, and them hauling said guy's entire inventory of abstract art back to the castle. And subsequently, I love the conversation Anna and Elsa have as they look at the new paintings, because it's some of the best "classy art humor" I've seen.

I feel sorry for the Helsa shippers now that "Frozen Fever" has been released and dashed any hopes they might have of Hans getting together with Elsa. :) Even though some Helsa works have been fairly decent, like the two-parter "Warm Hugs" or "Frozen Hearts''.

So when do you suppose your "Trials of Anna" work will be set in your continuity? I presume it could start at the end of "Frozen Fever" and continue on.

Oh wow, I had no idea people bookmarked the chapters. Sorry about that. I just squished chapters 14 and 15 together because 15 was abnormally short and picked up right where 14 left off. Also, I've gone through all of part 1 (since that was the earliest writing and therefore the crappiest) and polished it up a bit. I had this weird thing where I'd word sentences in needlessly verbose ways, and it really reads better to make it as concise as possible. Hence the word count shrinkage.

Glad you liked the gallery sequence. That's probably one of the story sections I worked on the hardest. Fritz was thrown into the story on a whim, and I had a lot of headache deciding just what the heck I wanted to do with him. By part 3, I knew I had to go ahead and get his character resolved because by the time Elsa went Brainwashed and Crazy, I wouldn't really be able to fit in any more of Fritz's plotline, so I went ahead and did a whole story arc devoted to resolving his character conflict. I was kind of terrified people would hate it and get sick of Fritz if I gave him too much focus, but I think it worked out for the best. Once his subplot was dealt with, Fritz could vanish from the story whenever I needed him to, so I think giving him like eight chapters of focus in a row actually let me use him less often, if that makes any sense.

Also, I don't give the shippers even the tiniest drop of sympathy. I feel nothing towards them but hatred and a vague sense of revulsion.

Trials of Anna will be set immediately after Frozen Fever. Elsa is still sick and Anna is forced to temporarily serve as queen. Antics ensue.

Any Hans/Elsa fic has basically also been rendered non-canon by Frozen Fever. Anyone think that the manure cart in that scene where Hans gets a giant snowball on top of him was a small Back To The Future reference (where Biff would, once a movie, get covered in manure)?

Having seen Olaf get subjected to so many amusing injuries, I think he has made it a new meme for any form of gruesome death: "Oh, look at that. I've been [X]! Hahahahaha!" I mean, Fritz reducing him to a pile of slush and Olaf's only response is "Oh, look at that. I've been mutilated!" I also find that you probably created the best explanation for Olaf's nasally voice: that it's the voice Elsa heard in her head whenever she created Olaf as a kid.

At any rate, it will make sense: just like the original Trials Of Elsa is a Continuation Fic of Frozen proper, Trials of Anna can be the Continuation Fic for Frozen Fever.

[up][up]Yeah, because the sisters wanting to bang the sociopath who tried to murder them was such a canon idea in the first place...

Trials of Anna will probably be about the length of Trials of Mary. There's no way I'm putting myself through writing another Doorstopper Frozen fic. Heck, editing the original behemoth is hard work enough... Besides, Trials of Elsa is really only so long because it's a bunch of unrelated fanfic ideas I had, and I decided to squish them together into one big epic fanfic instead of writing them all seperately. From now on, any Frozen fic ideas I have will just get their own fics.

[up]I actually think pairing them with Hans is a little worse from a real-life point of view because at least the sisters would never try and murder each other. "I'm really sorry about before, and I totally promise I won't knife you in your sleep to get the throne! Good night, honey! Sweet dreams!"

Actually I agree. Elsanna is "all love must be romantic" bad (also, Squick). Hans / either sister is "50 shades of gray" bad. In my book that is actually slightly worse, real-life or not.

On the other hand, most Hans shipping fics don't actually involve him knifing the sisters in their sleep (which is eye-rollingly out-of-character for Hans), whereas the incest fics really do follow up on the disgusting thing promised by the premise.
