Upbeat, Energetic Electronica suggestions?

I've been getting into hardcore styles as of late and I was wondering if any tropers have good musicians as suggestions? Can be anything from speedcore, to Bouncy, to Trans, to techno, just as long as it has a solid fast beat and is relatively positive. Vocal sampling and nonenglish artists and songs are perfectly acceptable.

Will this suffice?

^I've been meaning to check out The Prodigy's Experience. I already have Music for the Jilted Generation and quite like it, though it's probably not upbeat enough to fit what Dark is looking for.

Rebel MC: Black Meaning Good. Sample.

Joy Electric: Hello Mannequin. Sample. Questionable example, because the beats and melodies are catchy as hell, but the lyrics are subtle (or not-so-subtle) downers.

Squarepusher: Ufabulum. Sample. But maybe I'm just weird for finding this upbeat.

Also, any chiptune artists would be welcome.

Sounds like you could be in the market for some liquid funk. Fast, energetic, usually positive music and a genre I've been binging on for the past couple months. Basically, it's drum and bass with jazz/funk/soul influences.

If you like either of these songs, you'll probably wanna check out Hospital Records in general since they're probably the biggest label for this subgenre.

Hmm, sounds quite good, like a funkier style of ambient with a drum track for a beat and a dash of acid jazz.

A slight necro, but probably still relevant.

There's a lot of glitch that seems like it's what you're looking for. There's generally a steady beat (if a lot of syncopation) and most are pretty upbeat.

Maybe I'm late to the discussion, but as a Czech I have to recommend Tata Bojs - their 2000 album Futuretro is considered to be a milestone in Czech music among critics, public and other bands alike.

I'm not sure if it's "energetic" enough, but Porter Robinson's Language is probably the most "banger" song he's ever gonna make.

If you like this, you could check out his new album "Worlds", but be warned it's very different and a lot more downtempo/beat-ish, but don't get me wrong it's fantastic.

First of all, everything posted thus far in this thread is approved by yours truly. Yes.

Anyways, depending on how you feel about Trance, I've got some suggestions:

Hard Trance - Alphazone, Cosmic Gate, Slipmatt, Kai Tracid, System D, Du Monde

Goa Trance / Psychedelic Trance - 1200 Micrograms, Juno Reactor, Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection (still my personal favorite), X-Dream, Hallucinogen, Man With No Name

There's also Progressive / Uplifting Trance stuff like Darude (they did "Sandstorm", which everyone knows) and such, which is quite commercial, but kinda enjoyable...

Also:

Happy Hardcore - Hixxy ("More and More" is a classic of the genre, IMO), Elstak, Dune, Dougal, Gammer, Force & Styles, Scott Brown (some of his stuff is more Gabber though, as well) and (arguably) Scooter, who are incredibly doody but quite entertaining anyways.

Dream House - Robert Miles is the go-to guy for this kinda stuff, though Nylon Moon, B.B.E. and (again, arguably, since he's kinda moved away from the genre) BT are great as well.

2-Step / UK Garage - Artful Dodger ("Woman Trouble", "Re-Rewind", et al), M.J. Cole, Craig David, Luck & Neat, Zed Bias

And of course there's always Synth-Pop and the less dark end of Alternative Dance to consider... And Hybrid, who mix Progressive Trance with Breaks (Big Beat and Trip Hop, mostly) and are awesome.

Out of those I find psychedelic trance the most fun. Combines some atmosphere with dense bouncy beats. Happy hardcore's nice in theory, but the higher key and somewhat minimal beats in favor of helium-tinged vocals takes away a lot of energy for me.

What's breakbeat and gabber?

I'm still relatively new to electronica in general, so bare with me.

Psytrance is my favorite kind of Trance, personally. Happycore is enjoyable in small doses to me, it can wear if listened to for too long at a stretch...

Well, Breakbeat (or "Breaks", as its sometimes termed) is, in my understanding, a RIDICULOUSLY vague and poorly-defined genre which consists of danceable Electronic music which makes extensive use of, well, breakbeats (think the archetypical Hip-Hop rhythm track and you have some vague idea what those sound like- there's a musical explanation out there, but it's... difficult to explain well). The most common subgenres or derivations of it to come up are Trip Hop (Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Björk, and about a million others) , Breakbeat Hardcore (the best example is debut album by The Prodigy), Big Beat and Funky Breaks- and the last two overlap, a LOT (examples include The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method and Fatboy Slim, among many others). Also, both of them are partially derived from Breakbeat Hardcore, so yeah...

Gabber (or Gabba) is basically like Happy Hardcore, but much less, well, "happy". As I recall, it's got really distorted kick drums (as in, to the point where they've basically become pure square waves) and tempos up to 220ish BP Ms. Also, it sometimes has looped profanity and whatnot...

I don't think I fucked that up TOO much...

I just discovered a really interesting group called 80Kidz which has some pretty great stuff:

Björk is not Trip Hop, unlike what some people in the press said. She has a couple of elements in her early music, but that's it.

Jean-Jacques Perrey may fit what you're looking for. His stuff isn't as energetic as techno or house (because he started a few decades before either existed), but it's very upbeat. If you've checked out enough viral internet videos, you may have already heard his stuff without realizing. "Going to the store" used his song "The Little Ships", and "Princess Celestia being deep" used his song "Mary France". Both of which came from his album The Amazing New Electronic Pop Sound.

I'd also recommend his albums The In Sound from Way Out and Kaleidoscopic Vibrations: Spotlight on the Moog, which were collaborations with Gershon Kingsley. And Moog Indigo, which has "E.V.A.", a funky tune that sounds remarkably similar to the Futurama theme.

(Although the Futurama theme was more directly adapted from Pierre Henry's "Psyche Rock".)

In very non-technical terms: think of the Amen break. Breakbeats are any similarly complex drum loops, if I understand correctly.

I think I like psytrance best, and or similar genres of trance. That being said, still haven't looked much at drum n' base or the more hardcore forms of techno and trance.

By the by, thanks everyone for jumping in, I like learning about all there is to know.

I dunno, I've always thought of the first two Bjork albums as Trip Hop combined with Alternative Dance, with the later stuff being a bit weirder, though I can still hear some Trip Hop influences even on it (the strings on much of Homogenic kinda remind me of some of the stuff Massive Attack did with strings, albeit a good bit weirder, for example).

She's not a perfect fit for Trip Hop, Alternative Dance or any other genre, but I kinda sort her into it for convenience anyways. Gotta put her somewhere in my mp3 library (which is sorted by genre, then by artist within that), after all...

Looking back on this thread, I feel like I should mention some electroswing. It's not exactly "hardcore," but the majority of it is pretty energetic/upbeat.

My favorite 3 so far would have to be:
