You just know this is going to be a major Never Live It Down. Black pontificates, and a villain snarks something to the lines of "Well, I was never trapped as a cow."

I also think that 'when he inevitably makes his way back to his body he'll be incredibly pissed.

If you recall Superman: Ending Battle (which is pretty mediocre barring the last issue, the only one written by Joe Kelly, which is fantastic), the one other arc Black was the central antagonist (before Black Dawn) other than the story that introduced him, he can go to some rather extreme lengths when he's angry (in that story he hurls basically every single superman villain in the character's history against Kent's loved ones and kinda-but-not-really kills Lois Lane).

Black is surprisingly overpowered when he sets his mind to it.

I'm more curious if this new Black will touch on his more Tragic Villain aspects (his misguided sense of justice and shitty past) and why the flying fuck he was on space.

I prefer him leaning him to Anti-Villain. Though not much, but I find him more compelling as an opponent to Supes when he's framed as the dark brand of justice to Superman's light brand, the cynicism vs idealism conflict. Also about human nature, as their initial conflict pretty much boils down to Black thinking humans are inherently flawed and the only way to fix the world is by being just as cruel as the world itself, whilst Supes believes humans are inherently good and the only way to fix the world is by being kinder than it.

Also 'Chester's past is pretty fucking shit.

To me, Supes vs Lex is about the biological humanity vs the philosophical humanity (who is more human, the 100% human Lex but who's inhumane, or the 100% alien Superman but who's the best representation of our best traits?), Supes vs Zod/Eradicator/(insert remnant of Krypton here) is about the legacy of a dead culture, whether it leaves behind a legacy of hope or fear, and Black vs Supes is about the lengths of justice and punishment.

I didn't have a problem with the crueler Black in Black Dawn (even because we know little of his context in this new universe and the arc was just that plain mind-blowingly good for me to mind a bit of extra villainy), but I'd hope they'd bring back the justice-punishment conflict in future developments.

EDIT: I'm also hoping the arc of his inevitable return is called "Back in Black". And then followed by "Paint it Black".

I want Moochester Black vs the Bat-Cow Damien has.

As for Black in Injustice, I agree so much. Before the (very disappointing) DLC for Injustice II was announced, I was hoping the DLC characters would be John Constantine and Manchester Black (call it the British DLC). They'd have the best interactions.

Manchester in specific. The scheme Joker pulls off in the backstory for Injustice (ghosting Clark into killing Lois to make Clark kill him) is basically a amplified version of what Black pulls off in Ending Battle (during which he murders Lois solely to test Superman's moral fortitude and to provoke Superman into killing him). The irony at work is that in Ending Battle, Superman outright refuses to let brutal vengeance taint Lois's memory and refuses to kill Black, proving his cynic worldview wrong once and for all. The reverse happens in Injustice.

So basically, Injustice is a world where Manchester's assessment of Superman's character ("take away the one thing you love and you are just another human, like the rest of us, and just as willing to kill") is correct. Which would no doubt lead to some highly amusing interactions with Superman with him. I can imagine an intro dialogue to the effect of:

Black: So much for truth, justice, and the american way.

Superman: I am going to end you, Black.

Black: That's the spirit, luv.

Bonus points if he's voiced by Robin Atkin Downes, whose Manchester Black I Cant Unhear It.

Jon is just great. He also helps my favorite concept of this "new" Superman, the idea that he's this more experienced, older father figure.

As for Black's past, he does seem to overplay how shitty it was, but as far as I'm aware (in both the comics and in the animated film) the bit about his parents being utter shits and his sister and 'Chester having to fend for themselves actually happened.

I like my Manchester Black the same way I like my coffee: bitter, depressing and hypocritical.

I like when he's portrayed as a egocentric, sadistic little prick but you still get a bit of a sense he's a cynic in the L.E Modesit Jr. sense ("Sometimes cynicism is the last refuge of the idealist"), where you can get the distinct sense for all his assholeishness he's a man who has seen truly terrible things in mankind and this made him rather bitter, and for all his ego and assholeishness he still does things always in the name of (his own warped sense of) justice.

I don't find him a "redeemable" type per see, but I like him a bit more tragic.

PS: I actually hate coffee.

This would be a great time for Manchester Black's mind to find its away back into his body and join the Revenge Squad tongue

But I gotta admit, that's a battle you don't see everyday.

[up]MR.OZ: Superman, I'm not a Republic serial villain. Do you seriously think I'd explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting my plan's outcome? I did it thirty-five minutes ago.

SUPERMAN: What did you do?

MR.OZ: Why, it's quite simple. {Reaches behind from him and brings out of a tray of tasty sweets.} I made cookies!

Poor Jonathan. Every time someone tries to influence his dad and fails, they look at him and say, "Hey, kid. Wanna join? No? Time to force you to!"

After being revealed as [REDACTED], Mr. Oz makes his last moves against the Man of Steel and his family.

[REDACTED] is obviously the Qwik Bunny.
