The only thing Teletoon was good for was pointing out there were better options available.

Hey! I liked Teletoon. It was basically Canada's Cartoon Network where YTV was Nickelodeon.

They at least deserve points for being the original network for Cybersix

I know several cartoons that had potential, but was either cancelled, ran out of budget or just plain went unproduced. I'll tell you the two major ones I know:

  1. Dogmons!: This Brazillian animated show only lasted one episode which is the pilot, O Portal (The Portal). The premise sounded like a knock-off of Pokemon and Digimon, but it had potential as something of a Western alternative to the Mons genre.
  2. Inhumanoids: The show was originally a Merchandise-Driven cartoon. Unlike those types of shows, Inhumanoids was much more gorier than your usual kids' show and narrative driven with story arcs and stuff.

PM me or post another if you know something.

I contacted American Greetings about Lady Lovely Locks, but they said "Unfortunately, we do not see any information pertaining to this program coming back or its products." sad

At least they still hold the rights, it seems.

[up][up][up] Yeah, Brazil is a goldmine of weird animation. I made a thread of some of them a while back, it's here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=15284369380A93983400&page=1#1

Get Ed

Some nice character development, a threatening villain, a wise mentor, combined with a cyberpunk aesthetic and a surprisingly bittersweet ending (even though that's only because the show was cancelled).

It’s not even that old, but I’m a bit dismayed about how quickly Stroker and Hoop became ridiculously obscure. I’ve only been able to find two episodes on Youtube.

Since it's almost Christmas, one of my favorite adaptations of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer would have to be the Max Fleischer cartoon from 1948. I really loved the character designs for the reindeer since they look so expressive.

Another adaptation that's lesser-known to the public is "Rudolph's Lessons for Life" from 1996 that was a direct to video adaptation of the story.

[up]Yeah I remember the old Fleischer cartoon as well. Apparently my memories of it come partially due to Disney actually sneaking it into some of their VHS compilations (it was public domain so it was fair play, but still a strange choice of resource for Disney of all companies).

[up] Probably because at the time the "Disney Sing-Along-Songs: Very Merry Christmas Songs" was released (Which was 1988 and contained clips of the Rudolph cartoon). There was not that many Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer adaptations that weren't by Rankin-Bass. So Disney probably had to use that cartoon as source since Disney never made anything related to Rudolph (Minus the 1970's audio album/book that narrated the Richard Scarry version and contained the song at the very end).

At the time, they're we're only two animated adaptations that existed (Not counting the two Rudolph specials from the 1970's). Two more we're created in the 1990's with "Rudolph's Lessons For Life" and "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer The Movie" from 1998.

[up]It's just odd they'd choose to do a Rudolph themed sing along at all if they never made an adaptation of it. It's not like they're low on other Christmas songs, as the rerelease shown.

Big ol' bump.

I think I mentioned this in the "obscure shows in general that you love" thread but not here. I'm familiar with a few Asian cartoons that could do with some love in the West.

  • Disney Channel India's Simple Samosa, about the adventures of Samosa the samosa and friends, is admittedly a big trainwreck of a show, but I find it enjoyable to make fun of and easily consider it one of my Guilty Pleasures.
  • Lamput from the same country, on the other hand, is actually pretty well-done and is easily one of the best cartoons from that country. In this show, a pair of scientists chase after and try to catch a shapeshifting blob that Escaped from the Lab.
  • I watched all of the Happy Heroes episodes that were dubbed in English by Lookus and can confirm it's a decent, enjoyable series. In this show, Kid Hero robots defend their home planet from various monsters that attack. (Sounds like a bland plot, I know, but don't let that fool you.)
  • And, of course, Tamagotchi IS ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE AAAAAAAAAAAA~!!

Alright. Haven't been to these forums in ages, but I feel like giving it a shot.

  • Jimmy Two-Shoes: I have a lot of fond memories of watching Season 1 episodes on Teletoon (it was basically the channel's darling after Total Drama and Johnny Test), and even today, it never fails to make me laugh at least once. Some of the best Black Comedy slapstick out there. Shame the same can't be said about Season 2.
  • Spliced: It takes the normally obnoxious "interchangeable idiots who ruin everyone's lives" format and makes it hilariously insane. Seriously, it has one of my favorite "Freaky Friday" Flip episodes (an episode formula I usually find boring and cliche) ever, even if it might be solely for the ending. Also I love its theme song.
  • Atomic Puppet: Great animation, great action, and a great character dynamic - I was eager to see this show the moment I heard of it. I'm still really disappointed it didn't get a second season.
  • Wishfart: I was understandably not impressed by the series when I first heard just its name. However, my curiosity got the better of me, but I'm pretty happy I decided to check it out. It's funny and creatively weird with great characters and writing that surprised me with how clever or thoughtful it could be.
  • Ruby Gloom: I find this show to be quite charming, with its quirky characters, simple but nice-looking artstyle, catchy theme song, and Dark Is Not Evil aesthetic (which I love when it's used with scary monsters and creepy stuff).

And yes, they are all Canadian cartoons produced by Teletoon or YTV. Y'know, those same networks the animation fandom hates. Make no mistake people, there's a lot more to Canadian animation than Johnny Test and Almost Naked Animals - it's just that most of it is never given a chance by the big American networks (Whenever I see people complain about Teletoon and YTV as purveyors of crap I can tell they're just going off a handful of notorious modern examples). And I'll defend that position to the death.

[up][up] I can't say that The Critic is an obscure cartoon anymore. It's a definite cult classic.

Agreed on Earthworm Jim, The Tick, Twisted Tales of Felix and the Dilbert cartoon, though.

Always loved Dino Riders - another 80's cartoon just to shift toys.

Also, Jason And The Wheeled Warriors

C.O.P.S. was fun - almost anime in its stylings. Big Boss and his gangsters were actually quite intimidating.

What was that cartoon with the heroic Skeletons, with Tony Jay narrating... that was fun.
