Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

And off we go...

First up... The X-Files and the big bad evil dude from The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr—Billy Drago—guest stars as some freaky Billy Drago guy practicing voodoo with a vengeance.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we got even more freaky body horror in Brian Yuzna's Society.

I was out yesterday because this happened and I cooked my dinner after 8 PM!

Yes, we already celebrated my dad's 70th birthday last weekend. Well, we celebrated it again.

Horror Rock Track of the Day: The Misfits (Jerry Only) - "Science Fiction / Double Feature"

Tonight... It's the movie where David Warner opens a wax museum with dioramas inspired by the horror genre, and unsuspecting teenagers get trapped inside them.

With Dana Ashbrook and John Rhys-Davies as the Wolfman and... waaaiiit a second, isn't this the lady with the hair from 'Uninvited'???

Now this is what I call a supporting cast!

Look forward to Waxwork.

Why did no one ever tell me that Monster Mash: The Movie was a thing?

BonsaiForest Since: Jan, 2001
#17280: Oct 30th 2016 at 4:11:23 PM

So, we start things off with another Halloween-themed song, and then the final episode of the shortlived Brimstone.

After that, the classic Waxwork. What is it about wax that people find so scary? The Uncanny Valley effect? I suppose it's only a matter of time before someone makes a movie about mannequins... besides the comedy about a mannequin that we previously watched, that is. (Also, as a side note, in middle school I read a kids' horror book about kids being slowly turned into mannequins at a mall! Someone knows that horror!)

Yo!

Not gonna be able to make it, like other nights, due to having an early morning job.

That, and a certain family incident in the Insecurity thread.

Sorry.

I never know what to say in response to these kinds of situations, but I wish you two the best of luck.

I'm still having a hard time finding this movie that I'd really like us to see:

There's also this, but sadly it appears to not be a full movie, yet. They want to raise money to make it one. Made into a link due to very NSFW thumbnail.

FYI:

It's my duty to hand out the candy tonight on Halloween, so I don't know if I'll be able to fully participate in tonight's events, but I'll be leaving Jontron's latest episode, a review of Howling II: Your Sister Is A Werewolf for the aftershow.

Also, Sean, remember, a while back, both Bon and I requested that we should riff on Disney's 80's animated cult classic, The Black Cauldron, and you'd say remind you sometime after Halloween. If we do it in November, save it for Sunday, Monday, Wednesday or Saturday, because I'm really looking forward to it and those are the best times that I can do it without work interfering.

[up]They made a video game out of Howling II, eh?

Well, HEY! It's Halloweeeeee-eeeeee-eeeen! Halloweeeeee-eeeeee-eeeen!

And tonight, as is tradition, we fall back on the aesthetic ideal of all things horror in the 1980's: The Return of the Living Dead—The film that typified zombies moaning for braaaaiiiiins, while confusing countless pop-culture aficionados about how zombie hordes can multiply if they eat brains yet "die" if their own brains are destroyed. If those same people ever did watch this awesome movie, though, they'd already know that brain-eating undead simply do not die.

Do you wanna paaaaar-TAAAAAAAAAAYYY?

Halloweeeeee-eeeeee-eeeen! Halloweeeeee-eeeeee-eeeen! (Haven't stopped singing that all day!)

I cannot tell how tempted I was to run Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout in its entirety right now, but we'll instead kick everything off with an exquisite "Trilogy of Terror" all our own featuring the classic shorts Death Hat, Doom House, and The House that Dripped Blood on Alex.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, it's the Halloween night staple The Return of the Living Dead (which will more than make up for Linnea Quigley's absence in pre-show).

Tomorrow night, we got God's Not Dead 2.

Oh yeah.

Let's spread the word!! It takes the premise of the first movie more or less and moves it into the courtroom.

Oh, god.

I brutalized the first one. (The transcript of that liveblog is lost in the ether, if you guys wondered why I never got it to you.)

I very narrowly avoided watching the second one, around a month ago, but I guess that I can't avoid it. This one shall also be ruthlessly mocked.

I've recently made something of a tradition of destroying terrible Christian movies that I've been forced to watch. Do You Believe? was among the more recent. That shit is horrid.

I will brutalize the second film as well. Heck, I've heard that it is worse than the first one, and we gave that an X.

Ha ha ha. What a story, Mark.

I'd rather catch the clap than watch that.

But if I had to give a review to Ms. Quigley, I'd have to say "those are some great tits."

Apparently every acting opportunity Brian Bosworth has had since 2013 has been in Christian movies.

His latest project, in production at this very moment, features him in what I presume is a supporting role complimenting the "power duo" of fellow 1990's action man (and God's Not Dead "survivor") Kevin Sorbo and Eric Roberts (who we all know by now will appear in just about anything).

The posted plot synopsis sounds exactly like what you would expect from a ham-fisted, right-wing religious screed in the age of Donald Trump:

The collapse of the dollar precipitates widespread rioting and social unrest across the nation, leaving a lovesick girl struggling to care for her siblings in a stretch of woods bordered by lawless anarchy, wondering why a good God would let this happen.

Found something for preshow material that we can riff on on Election Day this year- Funny or Die's parody film Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal: The Movie starring Johnny Depp as Donald Trump.

I hope we do have something political and funny planned for Election Day. I invited the people from the US Politics thread to join us for tonight's movie; I may do it again when we're starting. Tonight's movie is about a US political issue at all, the whole "Christians are so oppressed" thing.

[up]Let's NOT call God's Not Dead 2 a political movie. I think we can all agree that's a stretch we really don't need to be making. Pimping the event in a less serious place like Yack Fest or just personally reaching out to friends or other acquaintances you might bump into on the forums/Internet could be interested would be sufficient, if we just keep the emphasis on "having some fun with a stupid movie."

But, yeah, seeing as the Halloween season is now officially over and today is All Saints Day... What would be a more radical shift than moving from over three weeks of horror movies to the Christian film genre always preaching to the choir?

I know I already touched upon a lot of the background to this film's narrative when we watched 'Inherit the Wind' the day tonight's film received its nationwide theatrical release, and I don't really want to repeat any of that again, here. But, yep, tonight will give us an opportunity to experience the inverse of Inherit the Wind's narrative with none of the rationale.

And be ready to come early tonight, because this godforsaken pizza shit is a longer one that will have to begin at ~7:30 (EDT)

This is God's Not Dead 2.
