Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Was the dog even a character in the book? I looked up the Animal Farm page on Wikipedia, but she's not even listed as a character, while in the movie she was the main viewpoint character.

Jessie gets a brief mention in the first chapter when all the animals are shown gathering for Old Major's speech. After that, I don't know yet. But I don't think she's a major character. The book is written in third person.

What I can't remember is if the book even so much as distinguishes whether Jessie is a male or female dog. An early draft of the adapted screenplay for the production we just saw originally depicted Jessie as a male character.

In the book, the puppies taken by the pigs to be made Napoleon's security force are said to be offspring of Jessie and another dog named Bluebell, which, I believe, is the only detail in the narrative in which Jessie's character is of any consequence, just as in the movie.

Just finished watching one of those "top 10 worst animated movies" videos. Of course Food Fight was number 1. The reviewer cracked me up pointing out details I hadn't noticed before about the movie.

This ugly bastard here is worth a watch, too. The animation is incredibly hideous, but in a gloriously apropos way. Perfectly channels the days of MTV Liquid Television.

[up]We've watched that, at least, two or three times in the chat before. I remember Bi being the first to bring that to our attention a long time ago.

And, yeah, I'm pretty fond of that video. Surprisingly, it's a way more coherent hodgepodge of unrelated Judge Dredd stories than the dumb-as-rocks Stallone film.

Lloyd Kaufman also appeared on an episode of The Angry Video Game Nerd, and joined him in his riffing, and had many really unique jokes of his own.

James Rolfe also interviews Lloyd Kaufman.

The guy's got a great sense of humor.

Also, here's about a minute of awkwardness guest starring Lloyd Kaufman, brought to you by way of Germany!

I have to wonder what contrived circumstances led to this existing.

[up][up]That is the best AVGN video I've ever seen.

Anyway, it appears we've discovered a peculiar anomaly in Cynthia Rothrock's filmography: A movie containing practically no martial arts spectacle (blink, and you'll miss, maybe, all of it in the trailer) that's designed as a vehicle for Corey Haim, of all people, to hog the camera. Even in the trailer, Rothrock is practically nonexistent, while the filmmakers are seriously banking on Haim being the bigger draw.

This is Fast Getaway.

Alright, what we have here are more episodes of The Gamesmaster and Knightmare lined up for us now.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we begin Fast Getaway, starring Cynthia Rothrock Corey Haim.

Cynthia only got to do a little of what we all want to see her do. Blah. Godfrey Ho could have done a better job.

But of course he could. All fight scenes should be directed by him.

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOoooooooooooo...

It's Kung Fu Friday, and this week we're following up with the sequel to 2009's Ninja ([awesome][awesome][awesome]) from a few weeks back, starring Isaac Florentine (returning from the original film) and Kane "Son of Sho" Kosugi (I think the only other time he was seen around here was when he was kicking ass in his father's old movies).

When our hero's love interest from the previous film (now his pregnant wife) is brutally murdered, he calls out to his sparring partner, and the two head off on a roaring rampage of revenge. This is Ninja II: Shadow of a Tear.

It feels like a big middle finger to the actress. IIRC she was a genuine martial artist and a known actress in Japan, and this is how they treat her?

[up]Who knows? It's possible that the people behind this production intended her to play a large role in a sequel but couldn't get her to commit to the entire film shoot due to "schedule conflicts", but even bringing her back for a day or two on set just to write out her character in the first 20 minutes seems needless, not to mention defeat the entire purpose of needing to protect her throughout the previous film.

That's just slasher movie bullshit where a principal character or "final girl" from a previous movie is made the first victim in a sequel.

What the hell have I just found? And how was this never brought up sooner?

Remember George Wood? That "Gaming in the Clinton Years" reviewer that Retsupurae mock the shit out of?

There's a handful of videos out there where he hosts a godawful "gameshow" where he asks 13-year-old boys questions about video games, and if they answer them all right, they win the grand prize of getting to see George Wood (pretend to) show them his bare ass.

And if that premise alone doesn't already sound like the most godawful, unimaginably stupid thing you've ever heard of... Just wait until you see how this idea actually plays out in front of a video camera, and I assure you this must be seen to be believed.

Abandon All Hope All Ye Who Enter Here: Who Wants to See My Derriere?

(Note: The uploader of this video decided to censor some really unusual words, I guess, so not to offend any 13-year-old kids who aren't mature enough to hear words like "Derriere" and "Lewinsky".)

Guess what I just got ahold of!

Looks like Daddy Derek sucks at writing books as much as he sucks at making movies!

What the heck is up with the girl's mouth in the fourth panel (the one featuring only her and Cool Cat)?

Also, the bully looks older than the movie!bully.

[up][up] www.BlueThunderBooks.com links to Savage's personal website. That thing is terrible. It gives some insight into how Daddy Derek wrote and storyboarded scenes for the Cool Cat movie. Plus, it makes me wonder if he actually had a typed script or if he just shown Vivica A. Fox this same book and told her, "You're the Momma Cat here." It would be interesting to see more of "Cool Cat Loves the Soldiers" and "Cool Cat Loves Wrestling", just to get a look at content that didn't feature in the movie. Anyway...

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOoooooooooo...

Let's kick off Kung Fu Friday. We got over 30 minutes of Godfrey Ho insanity ready for us now. Then, at the top of the coming hour, our leading lady from the previous film is stuffed in the refrigerator, and the MEN are tag teaming and heading out on a roaring rampage of revenge ("Kosugi, I believe this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.") in Ninja II: Shadow of a Tear.

So tonight we're rolling back out the rather entertaining Dolph Lundgren, Matthias Hues sci-fi action movie Dark Angel (aka "I Come and Piss", or something like that) about an evil alien drug dealer who comes to Earth to syphon endorphins from the brains of heroin addicts so he can sell them as a drug to addicts on his own planet.

Who the fuck knows? The guy's going around killing people with cheap spinning discs from Spencer's Gifts, for crying out loud!
