I noticed someone adding this for The Facts of Life and then investigated this trope and Fat Girl.

The Fat Guy is described as "This kid will almost always be male," but there are lots of female examples, most if not all of which seem like examples of Fat Girl to me. Should this trope be Always Male, with Fat Girl as its Distaff Counterpart?

This was YKTTW'd as "Token Fat Comic Relief," which was gender-neutral. It was inexplicably launched as The Fat Guy.

It seems problematic on several levels. The description only hints at unique trope elements, but can be (and, apparently, is) read as "A character who is fat."

I think we can fix the trope up with a change in description to emphasise the fact that the character is comedy relief, not that they're fat, and rename. I suggest we call it Fat Comic Relief.

Ah. I was the one who made the YKTTW, and this kind of problem made itself clear a few times.

I'm in favor of a rename to Fat Comic Relief and clearing up the description.

And personally, I was going to edit it to be a Super-Trope to Fat Girl and Fat Idiot... but it'd probably work better if the former was a Sister Trope, and the latter was merely a Sub-Trope.

Fat Comic Relief is okay even though that is usually a minor character and this can be a main character. This is basically where the other characters make fun of the fat guy.

Cut and start over. This one was launched prematurely.

YKTTW might be the right place for it, since it's brand new and needs some actual examples rather than all the zero context stuff.

Yeah, the Zero Context Example was a pretty bad thing for this. I tried to justify them as best as I could, but...

I agree with the above - back to YKTTW.

Sure. Let's do that and close this.

I asked a mod and he said to make a new YKTTW for this. Here it is.

The YKTTW has to be launched.

You should not include Zero Context Examples in a YKTTW.

And even before we launch that, we still have to cut The Fat Guy.

Would it be okay if I just cut every Zero Context Example and then we re-launch it?

Fat Comic Relief has been launched, and I removed all of the wicks to The Fat Guy. Now we just need to remove The Fat Guy altogether.

Redirected it to Fat Comic Relief.
