Totally going for an occult superhero who summons spirits to fight for her (read: mage/skill user). >.> If I can work this out, at least. Um, hmmm, let's see...

Wait, wait, wait, another question. I get the tank is more oriented on melee combat (like Superman), but what should the focus of their powers be?

Well, the obvious ones include Super Strength, Super Endurance, (like a body suddenly now made of a really tough substance,) or you could go with fire based powers like a ranged character. However, your point bases will allow you to use more melee-based skills as opposed to the ranged flares and fireballs of the magic-oriented characters.

I mean, unless you want to go martial-artist style and go with super speed or accuracy and hit people with a katana like a jerk.

Well, suppose using those terms wasn't general enough.

I really just meant Strength-Based or Stealth-Based. Tanks and Assassin just seem like the most common for the genre. Really, Stealth-Based could just be good at getting in/out of things and persuasion, and Strength-Based doesn't have to be just the meat shield, could be the speedy kill-stuff fighter. Does that make sense?

Since no one else seems interested in making an adventurer, I think I can come up with a character in the next few hours, but I'd like to know exactly what they do. Do they just have really awful powers that span all four types?

Still a few open questions, namely how I figure out what is what.

Couldn't Moerin's summoner also be "strength based" since she uses her summons to attack people?

Or maybe with an original example, let's say I make a Batman ripoff. What are the differences between skill-based and stealth based in this case?

[up][up][up]Yeah, they're the Rounded Class. They've got low points in everything, so no specific point of focus. However, a good backup for any situation. They have a bit of ability to sneak around, a bit of power in melee/range/support, and a few knowledge-based skills.

In game system terms the adventurer gets an equal boost to all of the system's base stats. Strength, Endurance, Magic, Willpower, Speed, Stealth, Perception, and Knowledge.

[up][up]Summoning and controlling requires with Willpower to impose her will upon them, and the Magic to call them forth.

Since classes aren't static, I imagine Batman as a mix of Strength-Based classes and Stealth-Based Classes, including Ninja, Pugilist, and Investigator amonst them. EDIT: Okay, maybe some mechanical knowledge too, depending on which Batman generation you hit.

Guess I kinda missed the main question though. Stealth-Based is specifically based on sneaking abilities. The other skills are in-combat or out of combat regular skills that don't involve the requirement of discretion.

  • Name: Landon Marlowe a.k.a. “Catalyst”
  • Age: 22
  • Sex: Tom
  • Race: Cuarr (Humanoid Cat, Calico)
  • Appearance: He’s about average height with blonde hair and blue eyes. He’s fit, but he’s by no means “buff”. Pale-ish complexion from spending most of his time indoors. His only physical feline aspects (so far) are his slitted pupils and cat-like ears on the top of his head (one’s white, the other is orange). He usually keeps these folded down or hidden under a hood.
  • Personality: As an only child whose parents worked a lot, Landon spent a lot of time alone with his Chemistry Set. He’s quiet, studious, and doesn’t go out of his way to talk to others. His cat, Sneakers, on the other hand is much more outgoing and affectionate. His new persona is a mix between the two. He now also has a tendency to get Distracted by the Shiny.
  • Class: Student
  • Powers: Manipulation of Liquids (or Water). He’s already an adept chemist.
  • Other: When the bomb went off, he was in his basement “laboratory” doing who-knows-what-kind of experiment. His faithful cat, Sneakers, was nearby and when the explosion occurred, Landon grabbed his cat and dove under his worktable. Somehow or another, his and Sneaker’s DNA were fused, turning Landon into a cat/human hybrid. Certainly, the government knows about his “feline enhancements”, but he tries to keep it a secret from others.

So for an adventurer, would this be too weak? Too much? Just right? It's one thing from each type, about Super Weight 1-2 each:

  • Fighter: Peak of human (or whatever species they are) physical ability (like Ozymandias or Captain America). Perhaps a Healing Factor if they are still considered too physically weak compared to the others.
  • Student: Utility belt? I can't really think of a way to make them have a little bit of tech. Perhaps a real simple suit or helmet that gives them augmented vision? Or a laser pistol?
  • Mage: Some sort of barrier ability.
  • Rogue: Either some way to jump high or some way to glide.

Yeah, sounds okay. The stealth "powers" don't work as well with the Strength tree, but if you get both base ones, you end up with a strong physique you can do acrobatics with. The utility belt would be issued in-game. As for your barrier, you just tell me what kind. None of the trees that have the barriers oppose Strength or Stealth, (but they can oppose other trees with barrier abilities.)

I should mention, however that over the course of the game, you will gain more powers. You can choose from more trees, or improve the ones you have. With both Stealth and Strength, when you choose to improve one of them, they become the dominant over the other, and the remaining one becomes more expensive to work up.

Whatever sort of barrier the game system allows. I just wanted a defensive power to fill that "magic" slot. Hardening their skin, telekinetic deflection, or what have you.

Telekenetic deflection should be fine. You seem to want to go with the more natural route, rather than the elemental route. Telekenetics and science are in the same general power tree, so you'll be able to easily get powers to make/maintain parts for your utility belt. Works perfectly.

EDIT: I added a weaknesses thing. You don't have to choose any, but in Tw V, having super-powers stunts your XP gain, (since you have less to learn because you're already awesome.) Having weaknesses to certain things will reverse the stunting a little.

  • Name: Hibiki Yamauchi (Western order)
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: There's symbolism in here somewhere, I swear
  • Personality: The Comically Serious. The one who always keeps a straight face, even in the most ridiculous of situations, and never forgets to dot their is and cross their ts. Insists on being professional and serious, and is terminally polite (even if it comes across as very cold). She always puts her best foot forward the first time, and always does her best to make a good first impression, as a dedicated, talented and hardworking individual. Demands to be taken seriously.
  • Class: Fighter
  • Powers: Energy Absorption. If it has energy, potential, kinetic, thermal, chemical, electrical, radiant, nuclear, magnetic, elastic, sound, mechanical, luminous, or everything else in-between, she can absorb it (to a point), and use it. She doesn't actually have super strength, super speed, or super endurance (in a sense, I guess), but rather, the more energy she absorbs, the more power she can put behind her strikes, and the faster she can go. She is, in effect, always as Strong As She Needs To Be. This absorbed energy dissipates with use, and will eventually leak out of her over the course of a few hours as well. However, while her ability can make grenades, fists, and bullets bounce off of her without even knocking her back, she can't absorb something that has no energy, thus making telepaths and curse-like attacks which instantly manifest with no attached energy her greatest weakness.
  • Other: Her prized possessions and a sign of her loyalty to the government and their cause, two katanas forged of the Unobtanium du jour. Naturally, anything that hits them will produce an effect on the katanas in some form of energy, whether it be heat, kinetic, sound etc. which she can then use, making them a sort of lightning rod for her power. Actually a rather impressive case of Hidden Buxom (that kimono is very loose-fitting).

Okay, I think I found a way to just have one "superpower" with multiple abilities, instead of a crapton of different superpowers that each have one ability. I know it won't make a difference in the purely mathematical world of the rules, but at least the story should work better that way. I also couldn't really think of an appropriate ability that goes in the "Student" or "Rogue" category. Is it necessary that he has one to start with, or is his averageness already reflected in his stats? I don't know what the restrictions are for your system.

  • Name: Abran Nefec
  • Age: 20
  • Race: Humans Are Average, so human seems appropriate. Unless there's some sort of semi-synthetic species.
  • Gender: Male
  • Class: Adventurer
  • Abilities: Accelerated development and adaptation (well, accelerated relative to normal folk. It's whatever rate the game has, number-wise). Anything he does, his body learns how to do it better. His frontal lobe and cerebral cortex have developed to allow minor telekinesis, such as deflective barriers, while his muscles, organs and bones have strengthened and become more responsive.
  • Weaknesses: Cold. Also hubris, but that's probably not covered in the rules.
  • Never having excelled in anything before, Abran Jumped at the Call when the government wanted him, vowing to himself that he would put his abilities to use.

[up]Adventurer already starts out average by stats and health/mana, you don't need to try and prod at each catagory. A very interesting choice of power, and very doable. You'll probably start out a little weaker than the others, but you'll benefit from training way more.

[up][up]I could've sworn I saw a different character there when I had my few minutes to check yesterday. tongue Anyway, that's plausable. We'll see how it works out, at least. The amount you can absorb and the power you gain from absorbing energies will go up as you level, but it'll start out fairly unimpressive, (I mean, compared to what you will be able to do.)

Anyway, I'll get a discussion page open with some more technical details written out for the characters, so you know what you're looking at. All are approved thus far. Only a few more places open. cool

EDIT: Discussion is up! KSPAM, I posted your character sheet for ya.

Oh oh oh I want to do stuff. Bear in mind that this was a character I conceived back when I was more of an asshole than I am now, so it bears influences from what I liked back then, lolis and Puella Magi Madoka Magica (the second is okay the first is not).

Name: Andrea Napa
Age: 14
Appearance: I swear I had this image somewhere but I lost it, whateves. Anyways, she's quite tall but is also wiry, so overall she tends to look weak and spindly. Her hair is a dirty blonde- as in literally streaked with dirt- and shoulder length, frayed and uneven in parts so it overall looks a mess. Her eyes a gray, dull, and lifeless, her face is sallow and sunken, the skin pale, old bruises and wounds incurred during the fighting have sullied her skin in areas to brackish splotches of scar tissue. She wears an old, blood stained and otherwise sullied baby blue dress.
Personality: More than slightly traumatized by the fighting, the relatively young girl coped by becoming a very apathetic young woman. While she still holds on to a strong moral outlook and possesses good empathy, she simply can't be bothered to directly express either of these things any more. She'll only do things when told to do them by others, otherwise she speaks little and can literally spend hours doing nothing if not prompted to do something. This is not to say she can't understand the reasons behind what she should be doing, she simply can't work up the energy to make things happen unless others are making her do it. All the same, she's a doormat and is easily cowed by others.
History: Inducted by force into the battle for Cezyros when separated from her family during a raid on an outlying town. She was an unwilling fighter, a ferocious one regardless, and she fought ans survived a virtually solo guerrilla war- learning the tools of the trade in the process- up to the point where she was in a town where the bomb struck.

Species: Human
Class: Rogue
Powers: Adept control of her own 'life force' which manifests primarily at first in the ability to remove parts of herself and convert them into various substances as need be; her almost exclusive choice being glass. Half of her left arm is more or less permanently shaped into an equally sized sickle of glass, though she can return the lost mass into her arm if need be. She has so far only managed to master solid conversion- she cannot yet turn her body into liquid or gaseous states, cannot yet convert herself fully (she notes that the sense she gets from trying to turn her torso or head into anything makes her fear she'll die if she tries at this stage of her development), and cannot do anything more grandiose with her control of life energy- apply it to others, raise the dead, etc.
Weakness: Because glass is her choice of material her body has psychologically attuned itself to the structure of glass, making her limbs incredibly fragile. They can shatter if struck with sufficient force. She can even shatter them herself. While she can reform the limb with her powers, this takes time.

You actually described one of the trees known as Metamorphic Transformation. It's one of the more expensive, so growth in it would be slower, but the eventual outcome would be something almost horrifyingly powerful.
