This is the sticky thread for questions related to the namespacing of works. As in, "which is the right namespace for this work?"
Ideally, questions already answered are covered on the Namespace Map. If you know a namespacing issue has already been resolved, but it is not yet documented on the Map, please update the Map.
If you want to suggest a new namespace, don't post here, but in Suggesting New Namespaces instead.
For easier reference, I've numbered my questions:
- #1: Where do animated films go? They seem to be distributed rather inconsistenly over Film/ (Puss In Boots, Whats Opera Doc), WesternAnimation/ (Disneys Anne Frank, Snow White), Anime/ (Princess Mononoke) and Disney/ (Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Der Fuehrers Face).
- #2: There are a few songs which have their own pages ("Pirate Jenny"). Where do they go – to Music/ or to Literature/ ?
- #3: Where do composers go – to Music/ , or are they to be treated like other creators, which hitherto stay on Main/ ?
- #4: Where do Talk Shows, Game Shows and News Broadcasts go? I guess you could call these formats Live-Action TV but they're not really "TV series", as in Series/.
- #5: Am I right in assuming that Puppet Shows go to Series/ ?
- #6: What about “hybrid shows”, i.e. segment shows that incorporate both live action and animation? (e.g. Die Sendung Mit Der Maus)
- #7: Where to put picture books? I am thinking of books like Der Struwwelpeter and Max and Moritz — books that are really not complete without their illustrations. They are not (yet) ComicBook/s, but to sort them under Literature/ feels a little unsatisfactory too.
- #8: The rule is to put works into the namespace of their original medium. However, once in a while there is a work which is little known in its original medium, and almost exclusively known by its adaptation. I’m thinking of Das Boot, for example: there's a novel, but it is almost exclusively known by the Petersen movie.
- #9: Should One Book Authors who are invariably tied to a single work be treated as a creator or a work page rather?— Currently, we have Samuel Pepys and Herodotus, but shouldn't these pages be at Literature/The Diary of Samuel Pepys and Literature/The Histories rather?
- #10: There are cases where I’m unsure whether to use the English or the original title. Is there are hard rule that determines whether Der Ring Des Nibelungen goes to Theatre/Der Ring des Nibelungen or Theatre/The Ring of the Nibelung? Even Wikipedia uses the original title.
I'd be grateful for input.

After reflexion, I'm putting it in UsefulNotes/ThomasMore, as the article is mostly about the historical character rather than the author. I'll be doing the same for Sir Robert Peel and Sir Robert Walpole.
As for the page Sir Thomas More, I'll instead turn it into a disambiguation, since there is also a theater play by this name.
That's my point: the page is more about the historical person than the character in historical fiction.
The only mention of him I saw from works was the Quote from Black Adder and there aren't any inbounds for the page to begin with.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.SamCurt was going to post some sort of summary of the two (current) ATT threads debating the merits of multimedia namespace redirects on shared workpages (sorting wicks by medium- i.e. intraspace disambiguation) here or on this board in general, yes? I can't seem to find his post. Honestly, multimedia redirect usage is so common and so prevalent in the Wick Namespace Migration I'd thought it was a completely settled matter of policy. Which is why a moderator's successful cutlisting of the Anime/ namespace for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind has me scratching my head. Public Adaptation Displacement alone should have been sufficient argument for its retention. After all, who remembers Jaws was a novel?

Question: I've noticed two different headings concerning comic strips on this site:
1) "Comic Strip/" 2) "Comic Book/"
I'm aware there's a difference between the two. But the thing is: most comic book series are published in newspapers and magazines first, then published in book form ("album") afterwards. There are a few exceptions (graphic novels, superhero comics, manga) where comic strip stories are published exclusively in book form, but in Europe, for instance, the newspaper/magazine publication always happens first. This might also explain why several articles about comic strip series on this site are actually categorized as "Comic Book/", because users know most of these series exclusively as "books" rather than a series that was published in episodes in a magazine or a newspaper.
To me an article about a comic book should be about a stand-alone comic book story. For instance, Garfield is a comic strip series in the sense that it was published in newspapers first and in episodes. Every day new episodes will appear in syndication. Maus, on the other hand, is not an actual series, but a story that has been rounded off as a whole and will never have any sequels or new installments. On the other hand it was published in episodes (thus as a series) in Art Spiegelman's magazine "RAW" before being published in a book format.
It's a bit confusing, so I wondered how this could be made clearer to other users in order to get a more uniform way of categorizing these articles?

Remind me: Does something like Day9 go there or in Creator/?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanRepeating the previous question and also a new question about whether Dirty Potter goes there or in AudioPlay/ as the description suggests.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAgree with both moves.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Would something like Lalaloopsy go in Franchise/ or Toys/?
Macron's notesAs the only page on the wiki? Belongs on Toys/.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Aye, Toys/ is for that.
Anyhow, today's big Web Original namespacing drive (the last one) has left a few pages with ambiguous namespaces: Rap News, Resident Evil Musicals, The Skywalker Paradigm, The Sports Guy, Tims Chemistry Exam, The Trading Post and Mega 64.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIn the past 8 hours, I've whittled down the WorkPagesInMain.A To C pages-to-be-namespaced list down to these pages:
- The Apathetic
- The Art Of Courtly Love
- BYU Divine Comedy
- Calls For Cthulhu
- Cartoon Network Groovies
- Chinese Mythology
- Chip And Dale
- Cicatriz
- Classical Mythology
I am not sure on the correct namespace for these, and we need a new Mythology/ namespace for the mythology pages. Plus, I am completely burned out.
Also, I don't think the The Ages of Superhero Comics pages ought to be on Work Pages In Main - Useful Notes Pages In Main is better as they aren't works or franchises.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAcademy Awards Ceremonies is the next item up - we don't have a namespace for that stuff yet.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI've created a new page, but apparently I put it in the wrong namespace. How do I go about moving it?
Well, for one thing, you'll need to cite which page you are talking about. That said, it was me who messaged you so I know it's WebOriginal.Where The Bears Are. Personally, I'd be inclined to put it under Series.Where The Bears Are, since it's set up pretty much as a TV series, with the place it is being the only difference.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOkay. Thank you. Should I just copy and paste everything? And how do I go about deleting the existing page?
Wait a bit. Some people may prefer WebVideo/ as the namespace.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWill do. Thanks.
What should pages like Moonlight Forum (and TV Tropes Forum) be namespaced under? They aren't a website, just a subsection thereunder.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI just created a page for Character/Zacherley. It was as good a place as I could think to put it—even considering the "original media" rule, the character's appeared on (to my knowledge) three different shows, and ideally the page would be about all of them (as most of them are fairly straightforward Horror Host stuff with the same premise.) I'm being told now that that's not how that works.
So, would it go under Series, then? That's what I'm assuming but I don't want to move it until I'm sure.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Character/ is not an approved namespace, hence the message. Plus, the page struck me more like a Series/ page.

Main.Sir Thomas More is mostly troping the Real Life person. I say start from scratch in Creator.Thomas More and then Cut List the page.
