The Lord of the Rings: TvTropes Edition

I created one of these for Star Wars a few months ago. Now it's LotR's turn.

I was there, Squishy Wizard. I was there three thousand years ago. I was there the day the strength of Badasses failed.

Sam: It's like in the Older Than Dirt stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of Nightmare Fuel and Complete Monsters, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end have a Moment of Heartwarming? How could the world go back to the way it was when so many Tear Jerkers had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this Darker and Edgier time. Even darkness must pass. A Lighter and Softer day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. Whose Values Resonated, even if you were too small to understand the Aesops. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of Refusing the Call, only they didn't. They were Determinators and kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam: That Rousseau Was Right, Mr. Frodo... and that's something worth fighting for.
