Was thinking of something like this◊.
Not necessarily. I've explained time and again how the melting of the southern ice cap and its effect on the global sea level has most probably been mitigated by the complete destruction of the Antarctic continental mass (which is huge) via Adam's explosion, which logically should leave a huge enough void at the southern pole that the global mass of seawater would then rush to fill up. Sure, we'd get tsunamis and disastrous rainfall over a lot of areas that would temporarily mess up sea levels enough to flood several coastal cities, but by the time all the geological and meteorological upheaval has settled down, we'd be more likely looking at an almost zero change in the actual sea level.
That said, about the "functionalness" of the Evaverse world... There is mention in the Jet Alone episode that several thousands of people get condemned to famine/starvation in order to feed Nerv's voracious appetite for funding (persumably it's being shunted away from the UN's humanitarian aid programmes). Third World countries, the most likely candidate for where the aforementioned people live in, are probably just as downtrodden as they are in real life.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.@amita: ...no objections at this time. Also, what is that from?
The dreams…, tears…, pain…, and serenity.
Everyone is here with you.
Thank you.
This ending is achieved by defeating the MP Evas.
- If the scenario cannot be cleared for some reason (like, Asuka died), EoE ending follows. Final scene is Shinji and Asuka on the beach.
- If the Harpies win, SEELE gets their happy ending by getting uploaded into Unit 01's S2 engine while everyone else ceases to exist. Final scene is Unit 01 standing in the sea, minus hair and spear.
- If you lose an Angel battle, Rei pulls a Deus ex Machina and recalls everyone's souls, human and Angel, into Lilith, with the implication that she just reset a billion years of evolution to zero in order to stop the two sides from wiping each other out. Final scene is on-screen caption of "oyasuminasai" (good night).
And these are just the standard endings. From what I hear, there is also an ending where Rei murder-suicides Lilith in a Heroic Sacrifice to eliminate all possibility of a Third Impact.
And it is even possible for Shinji to talk Kaworu out of getting himself killed.

IIRC, Unit 01 does actually grow hair as part of its ascension after bursting out of Lilith in EOE's finale.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. We don't see the actual growth but yes, there is indeed something hair-y floating behind the Eva in its final on-screen appearance.
On the other hand, when I first saw that scene years ago, I thought it was an apparition of Yui's labcoat.
Headcanon acquired.
Nous restons ici.Had an idea today for a bonding scene in SCE.
Remember that scene in canon where the pilots are lazing around on a hillside after killing Matarael? I'm thinking a similar setup, except the topic of conversation is Kaworu's so-far unstated musical taste. So far, he repeatedly said that he's not very versed in music due to not having had access to it; this time, Asuka asks him to name something he likes.
Kaworu replies that there's a song. He doesn't know its name, but he heard it years ago and the tune has been stuck in his head ever since. He says "It goes something like this."... then he slowly starts humming Ode to Joy. A couple of seconds later, Rei starts humming it too and after another while, Asuka joins in as well, with the three finishing up together.
I don't really have much of a choice regarding his tastes; from what I hear, Akira Ishida refuses to perform any songs for any of his roles out of self-humbling (or something like that), so I have no way of knowing how he sounds like while singing.

I think it can be safely inferred that Kaworu would be a fan of classical music in general.
Another SCE question. I had an old scene of Rei being asked how many knives she's got on her person and her replying "As many as I need."
Should I change that answer to "Many."? Does that sound more like Rei?
IMHO, I'd expect her to say "As many as I can carry."
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I'm thinking that Rei would have a dry, deadpan sense of humor. Something like Javik.
And I kept thinking of Rei while reading this WH40K fanfic. Seriously, Rei and an army of her clone-sisters could make a perfect Death Korps of Krieg detachment. Did you know that this guys are the one regiment of the Imperial Guard that never needs imposing of discipline by Imperial Commissars, instead having to use Commissars as the voice of reason (that is, to convince them not to throw their troops at the enemy unnecessarily/excessively)? And that they never retreat or surrender, something unheard of as a universal regiment-wide dispostion within the Imperial Guard?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Also 6E and 7E have really not been kind to the Kriegers, despite the fact they have some amazing abilities in the rules. You can drown people in your artillery even more than regular Guard, and you can give your artillery orders like most Guard can only give infantry. Artillery with Bring It Down! for twin-linking is still pretty awesome; unfortunately 7E took away the ability to use FRFSRF or Fire On My Target! on artillery.
Thing is they have no real melee game and they're still packing the underwhelming fire of lasguns once somebody's under the guns of the artillery, so deep strikers or that one squad that kept making their armor saves are a big problem; a squad of assault marines with drop pod could wreck your whole army pretty quick. Allies rules help, and the Assault Brigade set are better in general about covering the gaping lack of air or antiair game. Still, for drowning the table in the first few turns under the weigh of your shellfire, the Siege Regiment is where it's at.
And I hate melee game anyways, so I could finally stop playing Tau.
Nous restons ici.My only experience with WH40K is Dawn of War - and I gotta tell you:
Do not underestimate those lasguns.
I've seen those rip apart Terminators in seconds. Granted, I had like three dozen of 'em all firing simultaneously at the same guy, but still.

A random odd thought: Evangelion/A Certain Scientific Index fusion.
Basically multiple Rei's sharing a hive mind....
Yuri fanfiction writer! http://www.fanfiction.net/~shanejayell... I need to actually read that Index sometime, so I could decide if I like it or not.
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.Pretty sure that the functional equivalent has already been written in Nobody Dies, alas.
re: Lasguns: That would still work in tabletop, probably, but you will find the all-or-nothing nature of armor in the game to be.troublesome. Lasguns' weak AP means that the termies get their armor saves plus a little extra, and sadly against a good opponent you'll rarely get to throw thirty to one (four or five, maybe six), and even then the odds are mathematically against you inflicting sufficient casualties to break a Termie squad before it enters close combat and blends your Guardsmen. (And against loyalist Marines with And They Shall Know No Fear, you can't break them in that sense; it's mathematically impossible.) Part of what makes First Rank Fire!, Second Rank Fire! such a godsend is that it gives your lasguns an extra shot, giving you a lot more chances to roll the hit that goes through something's armor.

Nous restons ici.Hey, don't steal my ideas! I have had this one in the works for quite a while — and in fact, I'm employing the general principle for more than just that crossover category.
@Night: Yeah, well, the story I linked to focuses almost entirely on light-hearted romantic-comedy between an Imperial civilian and a female Krieger on a "backwater" planet that is surprisingly similar to late 20th-century Earth (they even have Volkswagens!). That is why it reminded me of Rei, and made me imagine her and Shinji in such a situation (along idle thoughts of how to put Asuka, Mari, and others in comparable setups). It's so cute.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That was one of the ideas I dropped from SCE, actually. Saw no point.
With that said, you're free to try.

Well, I got an idea to bat out...
It all started with an RPG/Fanfic idea where I wanted to deconstruct the dissonance between action sequences in mecha anime and wacky high school hijinx (basically Code Geass or FMP) and just how well someone would actually feel if they had to go back and forth between the two moods, especially if they took the terrorist route.
Then I realized "So, basically you want to make an Eva for the new mecha" and that's when I figured "What if I make Shinji the protagonist, write up the characters to wind up being part of a Real Robot scenario rather than a Super Robot scenario, and see just how much he'd break".
Quick AU question - if you take the major character arcs from the show without the aliens and post-apocalyptic stuff, like the different relationships and stuff (Yui dying and Gendo having a string of affairs while neglecting his son, Misato and Kaji being on-again off-again since college), and have Shinji just grow up among all of that, do you think he'd have serious doubts about starting any relationships of his own?
I interpret him as being pretty self-ware of his upbringing, but then again I tend to paint over Shinji's characteristics with my own traits, so I'm partially blind to him as a character.
Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down.If he grows up among this all, he could develop a strong sense of "I'm not going to allow my relationship turn out the same". Also, he could, subconsciously rather than consciously, repeat the same steps as his father - that is, a lost "true love", and then a chain of manipulative affairs.
Unfortunately, the two aren't mutually exclusive.
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.Sometimes, I like to go back and watch 90's ADV-dubbed anime aside from Evangelion.
Unfortunately, none of the EVA cast showed up in Mazinkaiser... but Tiffany Grant was epic in New Cutie Honey (not the title character though). Basically, a slight bit of a tease to her husband (with whom she makes a living robbing banks For the Lulz) and her son, and is an epic Badass Action Mom, who in full Unstoppable Rage Mama Bear mode can temporarily achieve greater physical strength than Honey.
Honestly, strikes me as the kind of mom I can see Asuka growing up to be in a marginally Lighter and Softer setting (professional felon aspects notwithstanding).
On Black Lagoon crossover: The problem is that current physical Roanapur is more likely under water at this point. Also, loss of infrastructures and major coastal cities will also affect the underworld, which intricately related with them. Will think more in the future....
