I actually watched it when I heard it was a prequel, to see if it explained anything about the original Kabuto series.

I think I understood even less coming out than I did going in.

Hyper Kabuto is definitely cool as hell, though.

It's a prequel to the series, and the only of the Heisei movies that's canon. It explains how and why Tendou became Kabuto.

Well, yes and no.

It explains how ONE Tendou, the main timeline one, became Kabuto and just why he did. It doesn't really explain how the one we're following in the movie became Kabuto, or how exactly he knew any of the crap he was doing would have the effect he intended. Unless the explanations were, like, from a deleted scene or something. Although it at least explained why, which for a KR movie is probably good enough.

God Speed Love is my favorite Heisei stand alone film.

It's magnificent, you should watch it, before or after Kabuto, it doesn't matter it's really good and I fucking love it.

It gave me legitimate feels while watching it.

God Speed, my love.sad

Speaking of Kamen Rider movies, anybody know where I can find the Showa version of Kamen Rider Taisen? I liked the Heisei ending, since it's basically the Showa guys learning that they've been fighting for the big picture for so long, they've forgotten about the little pictures that makes said big picture.

Preferably a youtube version, because I have an illogical feeling of NOPE against torrents or downloading films.

Actually, it's right here. There's no real difference between the two besides the ending.

Kouta just goes "You know what, I don't think this is worth it, I quit" and concedes to Ichigo.

I expected a goddamn apology from the Showa side for all the shit they put the Heisei riders through after all that.

Narutaki was damn hilarious in it [lol]

And the fuss with the poll turned out to nigh zero difference. Showa ending is less dumb, though, yes.

Soooo Hongo giving Kouta a chance to power up and see his attack fully charge made Gaim admit defeat?

Yeah, the Heisei one is more dramatic for me. Showing that Hongo may have forgotten, as I said before, the little pictures that made the big picture. And they are as important to protect as the big one.

I'm prominently a Showa toku fan as many of you know, but the Heisei ending won me over. Don't expect me to fully give in to you whippersnappers though.

Got it, gramps.

To me, the kicker is that the endings are effectively the same, just with very slightly different angles on the theme. Kouta demonstrates how being a Kamen Rider hasn't made him forget his humanity, and Hongo acknowledges his strength comes from his humanity. The Heisei ending just shows that he won't back down from protecting even the smallest form of life, and the Showa ending just shows that he knows when to back down when fighting won't accomplish anything meaningful.

...I think the real winner of that duel was Narutaki. Just look at his bright happy eyes as they were beating each other.

Yeah, since he basically has front row seats to the fight.

Alas, we may never know what his beef against Decade will be.

Hey, anybody remember the original Episode 32 trailer for Decade, the one where Natsumi points an assault rifle at the camera? I really wish they'd told us what the original scenario was...

For ass kicking son! What else?

So while coming up with an idea in the Toku Fanfiction Thread, as well as listening to some Shuhei Naruse remixes of Heisei Rider themes, I found myself getting interested in Kamen Rider Faiz.

I hear it's chock full of a lot of pointless Let's You and Him Fight and Poor Communication Kills, but I like the simplicity of his suit. I'm actually thinking of giving it a look, making it my third Heisei series after Ryuki and Decade.

What do you guys think? Good idea, or will I regret it?

I probably shouldn't have read about most of the important parts on the Kamen Rider Wiki and This Very Wiki already, but hey, it's all still good.

It's good enough to have Toei bring back Faiz to Kamen Rider Taisen. And since I heard that Takumi's interaction with Keisuke/Kamen Rider X to be the best scenes in the film, I say go for it.

Me, I'm still unsure whether to go watch Faiz or not. Guess I hafta continue Ryuki, since I watched it chronologically after Kuuga and Agito. Also, never forget to watch the films. Yes, they're not really canon other than God Speed Love, and Den-O & Kiva's films are somewhat canon, but cool things happened there.

Dangit, wish Faiz's stage for Battride War 2 has Faiz vs Ouga.

@Faiz: YES. WATCH IT. Along with Decade, it was my first Rider series. And while I only got 15~ eps into it before distraction set in, I loved it.

I will confess that Paradise Lost is about half-and-half, though.

Kamen Rider: The First

Okay. Starts out with Spider-ningen attacking as expect-HOLY CRAP THAT THING LOOKS AWESOME.

<opening credits start out to Let's Go Rider Kick, before a new, different track comes in>

... I like!

Oh, cool, looks like we're actually going to get a look at Hongo's life as a college student, before SHOCKER went and FUBAR'd everything for him.

Lots of stuff about water being talked about.

Wild Shocker recruiter appeared!

<cut to the remodeling chamber>

... <brrrr>

<gets look at modern interpretation of the suit>

[awesome] Shame that Hongo pretty definitively appears to have been brainwashed, though. sad

<Kamen Rider tanks a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE-ass jump out a skyscraper window, lands on his feet with only a slight bounce>

o.0 And, for added effect, let me repeat: o.0

<begins snowing, which promptly shakes Hongo out of it>

[heartwarming]

<cute lady cute lady friend finds the un-helmeted Hongo kneeling over her hubby's corpse>

Three guesses as to how this goes, and the first two don't count.

Apparent Shocker Leader: "To defeat Hopper, we need another Hopper!"

<ominous lingering shot on another Hopper helmet>

GEE, I WONDER WHAT THIS COULD POSSIBLY BE FORESHADOWING.... tongue

Aaaand Our Hero is having trouble with his enhanced strength, I see.

Huh. I'm half-surprised Asuka didn't break her hand from slapping Hongo like that. Aaand of course he doesn't try to explain what actually happened. Then again, he was still Brainwashed and Crazy up literally until it was too late, so if he wants to blame himself for that, I guess I can't really blame him... >.>

HOLY SHIT HE JUST MADE A BIG-ASS TRUCK DO A WHEELIE ON ITS FRONT WHEELS! OH SHIT THE REAR WHEELS FELL ON SOME POOR SCHMUCK'S CAR THAT COULDN'T BREAK FAST ENOUGH!

Aaaaaaand he seriously hurt the little girl he was trying to save, too... sad

<has flashback to an episode of The Original Series where Takeshi accidentally hurt a kid while he was trying to comfort him>

sadsadsad

Christ, it's like the Japanese equivalent of Spider-Man... And yes, I know that there's an actual Japanese Spider Man TV series. That's besides the damn point.

And then some schmuck tries to kill himself jumping off the hospital roof, but can't bring himself to do it quickly enough. >.> And then someone not shown on-camera comes in with flowers.

<Cool Bike get>

cool

<Asuka gets ambushed by Spider-ningen, cue Big Damn Hopper>

cool

<mooks still make those annoying-as-hell noises>

Shit.

<next sequence begins>

PWNAGE... ON MOTORCYCLES!!! grin

<Rider Kick>

Nice. cool

He doesn't take Asuka to the hospital, though, which is kinda odd. Speaking of, another appearance from suicide kid.

Soooomething tells me Katsuhiko got rezzed as a Shocker agent. No, wait, it's actually Hayato.

<sees Hopper-2 suit>

Nice.

.... So it seems that Hayato isn't so much brainwashed, as just doing whatever the hell he wants, when he wants. Bat-ningen calls him out on "thinking with his dick". [lol]

<stuff happens>

Huh. Welp, Hayato's screwed. And not in the fun way.

<lots more stuff happens>

... where did Ichimoji get his bike?

<Ass Kicking Pose>

grin

Aaaaand the mooks still dissolve into foam when pwned hard enough. Again, very nice with the Big Budget Beef-Up.

<Double Rider Kick on Bat-ningen, 'splosion>

[awesome]

<end credits set to an "easy listenin' song">

Nice.

Gaim 29: TAKATORA! YOU'RE ALIVE! smile

White Overlord seems to be a cool enough dude for the moment. Let's hope it stays that way.

Aaaaaand he is pretty much one of our Yggdrasil villains, but with several millennia or so of "welp, that sure didn't go to plan" under his belt. And the only ones left other than him, are pretty much Kaito Up To Eleven.

Sid: "You'd have to be crazy not to want the power of a god!"

Yeaaaaah, I'm pret-ty sure only crazy people and total idiots say that. And Sid has generally proven himself not a total idiot.

Aaaaaaand Kamen Rider V8 continues to trust Micchy blindly. Even as Micchy works hard at upping his douche level.

Gaim takes it up to Raiment level and starts fighting back against Melon, set to a neat insert song. Also, PWNAGE.

<Red Overlord interferes>

DAMMIT

<Red Overlord goes to Earth>

SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT

<android thingy appears, one half red, other half blue>

...huh? Kikaider, apparently.

Also, Tachibana Tobei is played by Miyauchi Hiroshi, aka Kazami Shiro, aka Kamen Rider V3.

Personally, I thought the reboot films were cool, but now, they just... bore me. Yes, the action is cool, I usually skip to those scenes, but those dramas felt out of place. But that's just me.

So, um, can I just skip the Kikaider episodes?

If you mean does it have any bearing on the plot, it's got none whatsoever and is completely skippable. It does have Ryouma putting his own brain into an evil robot and going even crazier than normal, though.

Probably he learned it from Franky. Dude turned his entire front half into a steel Hollywood Cyborg. He couldn't reach around to get his back half, though.

In any case, going to skip the Kikaider stuff.
