I just started re-watching this show. I hadn't seen it since it was canceled, and it is way better than I remember. I absolutely love Kristen Bell, and any scene where Veronica and her dad are in the same room.

Yeah I loved this show, caught it on Dv D, I do love the Father/Daughter relationship and the Veronica/Logan relationship, Duncan was boring though

Word. Logan's character development was pretty awesome, I think one of the better arcs on TV for sure. I loved the tribute video he made for Lily Kane, I think it was possibly the first sign that there was actually a human being in there. It did kind of bum me out a little, but that's just because I love unrepentant assholes.

I liked the first season a lot, it was very well-made and the story fit together nicely. Unfortunately it went downhill in season 2 and 3. I still had fun watching them and it did have some good stuff, but damn it also had a lot of stupid stuff. Also, the first season had the advantage of having a backstory that was a setup for the story, which could slowly be revealed throughout it and the various plot points could be interwoven in a nice, plausible manner that was planned out from the beginning. The other two seasons? Not so much. Wouldn't exactly call the twist of season 2 plausible, though I did like that season more than the third overall.

Yeah, I liked the first two seasons better than the third. Season three was just not as good as the first two by a lot. Season one is AMAZING. Watching season one, I'm like THIS is how stories could be told through television. I'm a sucker for serials.

Did anyone ever see the trailer for the unaired fourth season? I wonder how it would've turned out, since the jumped forward in time past the rest of college and the FBI academy, to Veronica as a newbie FBI agent. Damn I wish that show was never canceled. I only saw the trailer last week, when I went out to find season one episodes online.

[up]The first third of season three is at least as good as Season 1. Rape arc ftw. Bloody well done, and really scary. The rest.... eh?

While the third season is definitely the weakest, the last two episodes are Made Of Win. The last episode where Veronica walks away to the tune of "It Never Rains in Southern California"? Awesomeness.

Which reminds me: Veronica Mars always had very, very good music, from the first episode to the last.

[up]It's true. I just heard some Tegan and Sara in a second season episode. I got so excited!

Duncan, I think, could have been a good character. Maybe. He was interesting (to me) in season one when Veronica/the audience believes he killed Lilly but then I guess in that case it was the mystery not the character himself. Part of the problem with Duncan is that Veronica and Logan (or rather Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring) had amazing chemistry even when they were tearing each other down with their vicious, vicious words. Veronica and Duncan had no chemistry, at all.

One of the things I love best about Veronica Mars is the relationship between Veronica and Wallace. Primarily because I lovelovelove boy/girl best-friendships with zero sexual tension ever, but usually creators make one or both fall in love with the other as time goes by. I really appreciate that never happening to Wallace and Veronica. I'm re-watching the series and I just saw the episode where Wallace and Veronica fight and Wallace runs away with his dad, and the last thing we see is Veronica desperately trying to contact Wallace while Wallace ignores her calls and it's honestly WAY more distressing than that whole thing where Aaron Echolls tries to kill Veronica.

Nice. I remember the episode where gay students were being blackmailed, but somehow I missed the fact that the blackmailer used the alias "Rick Santorum," the first time around. I was lawlin' SO hard.

If you ask me, I'm surprised that Donald Lamb from Veronica Mars even has fans. I mean, he's an unmitigated stupid Jerkass who plays the Kick the Dog game way too often. Not to mention the incident where Veronica tried to report being raped to him and he refused to investigate the matter, taunted her about having no spine when she reasonably broke into tears, and threw her out of his office. He's like one of those Internet Trolls who no one could possibly love!

He always whines about how he can't take action without evidence. I'm like, dude! You're the town sheriff. You seriously expect evidence to just be handed to you on a silver platter? If evidence is not there, why don't you try digging it out like someone with common sense would? And the funny thing is, even when he has evidence, you have to give him a boot in the rear to get him to act on it. For someone who taunts "spineless" people, he seems to be lacking in that department himself.

Another thing I find weird is how he kisses the rich people's butts every chance he gets, but there was that one time where he busted a party of rich, drunk teenagers...and then shared the beer he confiscated with his fellow cops! Supposedly, this is to show that he privately feels contempt towards the rich people. Seriously, if he feels contempt towards them, why does he act like a butt-kisser around them?

Personally, I thought that whole thing with him taking a blow to the head from a bat, and dying from that, was fitting. I mean, he goes to apprehend this bat-wielding suspect all by himself, and didn't even wait for backup. He displayed no common sense, like always, only this time he got realistic consequences for it! You reap what you sow. Maybe it was strange that practically nobody talks about him after his death, but I think it was to hammer in the fact that he was so detestable and such an Asshole Victim that he was simply not worth another mention or thought once he was finally gone! evil grin

No, I'm not a fan of Donald Lamb at all. In fact, he is exactly the sort of character that I want to give my middle finger to...and then make him rotate on it! evil grin[lol]

Sheriff Lamb is what you would get if the sheriff of Murder She Wrote existed in real life. The only way he would get by is actively covering up any unpleasantness that might hurt tourism.

[up] So, would Sheriff Lamb be a Deconstruction of that sort of character?

I find it interesting how people have labelled Why Would Anyone Take Him Back? on a number of Veronica's Love Interests. I don't deny that those "boyfriends" crossed the line on a number of points and that they should be thrown out for that. But I have some theories on why V took them back:

  1. V is suffering from a mental illness, which could be schizophrenia. People with mental illness have ended up in abusive and unhealthy relationships, and have made poor decisions.
  2. V is a social pariah and is suffering for loneliness. Lonely people tend to bring in anyone, including people that are not good people to hang around with.
  3. V approaches people with a system of doing favours for them and they do favours for her. This kind of system requires her to be on good terms with people. Taking back lousy boyfriends would make it easier for her to use them!

I know that when you're a viewer, it's easy to stand back and boo at a number of things. But V is in an environment that is not exactly healthy to begin with. That, and being mentally ill and traumatized, she might even be convinced that she deserves to be in lousy relationships! That, people, is Fridge Horror. sad

I personally think that the best part about Veronica Mars is how witty it is. Everybody is a Deadpan Snarker of the highest caliber, and it shows.

Okay, question: I loved the first two seasons of this show, as in "one of the best things I have ever watched". Should I stop on this amazing finale, or should I keep watching the third season and the movie? The third season seems to make people rather unhappy...

The third season is a bit divisive. For one thing, instead of featuring one central mystery, it instead breaks the season down into two separate mysteries and then some episodes that are just stand alones.

I do really like the third season, however, especially the first half. The second half...kind of loses steam, but then it becomes great again at the very last episode, "The Bitch is Back."

So I'd say watch it just to finish out the season.

The movie is just really good.

Some digging up!

Not really TV-related, but at total random I recently learned there were two Veronica Mars novels, written by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham. Those are canon, because, well, Rob Thomas. I just read the first one (The Thousand Dollar Tan-Line), and if you want a small trip through nostalgia lane, the kind brought to you by the movie, it is great. Of course, the intrigue relies on one big Contrived Coincidence - you'll see it when you read it - but as it stands it is an interesting one considering what character we're dealing with.

And of course, we get to see the entire cast (Veronica, Keith, Mac, Wallace, Logan, Lamb #2), even if some are just there for one scene.(Weevil, Dick, Clint). It is also full of call backs to some previous Veronica adventures, because Rob Thomas obviously loves the world he created (and who would blame him); for example, the weapon enthusiast that was suspected of a bomb threat at some point is now a cop, and Veronica gets in a scene that reminds her of Abel Koontz's daughter's death (those are far from the only examples).

It's easy to read (I say that as a non native, although I admit to being lost by the description of a Hawaiian-themed party), and it got the same epic dialogues that made me adore the show, like Weevil's "I follow you on Twitter, @too_nosy_for_her_own_good".

Let's bump this up since a new season of Veronica Mars is set to air on Hulu on July 26, 2019. And we are getting a remixed theme song, too:

So.... apparently season 4 is now on Hulu as a birthday present to Kristen Bell. I literally only started watching this show this week (I'm loving it a lot!) and I'm not a binger so it'll be a while until I watch it, haha, but just thought I'd bump this thread to let you all know. smile

Looks like I'll have to wait for the DV Ds.
