Tropers: Mathias
As the more perceptive of you may have realised, my real name is in fact Mathias. I hail from the country of Denmark and am 23 years of age. This is also the reason that my English may not always be perfect. Not that this stops me from writing walls upon walls of text, but you should consider yourselves happy that we aren't writing in Danish, because trust me, then those walls would be far far worse. I finished my bachelor's degree in physics, with what can eventually be a minor in mathematics last summer. Yeah, I am one of those people. Right now I am taking a little detour to Japan for a year before I return to continue with my master's degree. Still, despite my choice of study I am also a huge fan of all sorts of fiction. Be it books, movies, television, anime you name it. I game a little sometimes, but it's not something I do with nearly the same fervour as the aforementioned consumption of fiction. In fact my attention span when it comes to games is pretty short. So yeah, I have wasted way to much time in the world of fiction and here is a very tiny amount of the stuff which I have enjoyed.

A (very limited) list of some things I like

Anime

Literature
  • Once again, just some of my favourites. I have no idea how many I've read. A lot though.
  • Discworld and really anything by Terry Pratchett who just so happens to be my favourite author.
  • A Song of Ice and Fire (and some other GRRM books)
  • A lot of other somewhat deriviative fantasy, though some if it is somewhat original.
  • One of my favourite books when I was little was Jim Button by Michael Ende who is generally a terrific author as well.
  • A lot of classic sci-fi, authors like Isaac Asimov, ArthurCClarke, PhilipKDick etc. This includes more soft sci-fi/space opera ala Dune as well.
  • Every once in a while I do also read classics, like say works of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Thomas mann, Mark Twain and some Danish authors you've never heard about. I also read other kind of "classics", like say Jules Verne.

Live-Action Television
  • Once again, not an exhaustive list, I have seen quite a few more, probably in the vicinity of 40-50
  • Babylon 5 - My favourite live-action television show ever. In case you hadn't guessed yet, I like space opera.
  • Farscape - And this is my second favourite.
  • Buffy and Angel
  • Xena
  • Doctor Who - Mostly the new series, which is very entertaining even if it isn't always the most intelligent.
  • Stargate SG1 - I find this entertaining, but it is not really good as such. I mean, no babylon 5, that's for sure.
  • Stargate Atlantis - same as above, though it is overall worse.
  • Firefly - Extremely overrated, but still good.
  • Dexter
  • Montypythonsflyingcircus
  • Blackadder
  • Red Dwarf
  • I do like some Japanese LA shows as well, such as Ryusei no Kizuna, Bloody Monday, Liar Game, Akihabara@Deep and a few others. Recently I've also gotten somewhat into the taiga historical dramas, which are certainly a nice change of pace compared to the usual teenage J-drama...stuff.

Film

Western Animation
  • AvatarTheLastAirbender - one of the few western animated shows that I really like. Better than your typical shounen anime, though not all of them. Refreshing with a different perspective on an engaging animated series, rather than a Japanese one.
  • Disney movies. It may be nostalgia speaking, but I believe that it is also due to their inherent quality. The good old Disney movies simply rock, even if they at times have a rather tenous relation to the material they are adapted from. That said, I don't like all of them (Snow White comes to mind). not to fond of most Disney movies as of late though.
