Ah criminy, the SHIPPING thread...

I'm surprised there isn't anything like this already. If there is, point me to it and just lock this.

So, anyway. Shipping.

It's a fact of life and it's here to stay. I think we all do it, it some way or another. Perhaps it's impossible to have extensive contact with fiction without starting to pair up the characters in your head. This thread is just to post your shipping. What pairings you support and why, and discuss them. I'd hope you're civil, but if you must wank, it's better to have one thread for it than to spread it across the board, I guess.

What do I ship, you may ask? Well, there's an interesting story behind that. Since before I knew what shipping was, I had shipped in ways just to be different. I'd pair up characters with people like you wouldn't expect, like not pairing up the male lead with the female lead and stuff like that, and it was all fine by me. I used to think I didn't really ship, but now I'll admit that I've found shipping in things that I'm not even sure have anything resembling an active fandom at all. Some examples are below:

Shinji/Rei: In my neverending quest to be different, I'd had these two paired up in my head since they were just names and pictures to me. The reason? Back when I had first heard of Eva, Rei looked at my first glance through the series to be less important than Asuka, which, combined with a great character design, means she gets the protagonist in my head. Then I actually go and watch the series, and it's just the sweetest thing, at least from his perspective. She's the one he always goes the extra mile for. He's the one she entrusts with the apoca-freaking-lypse. And yes, I was spoiled for The Reveal. That still doesn't change the fact that she's the one he gives his all for, and apparently it looks like it's going to be canon in the new continuity. Fingers crossed.

Harry/Luna: This one may be a result of the movies, which practically force it down your throat, but I find their relationship incredibly sweet. Would it work out in the long run? I don't know, she might annoy him too much down the line. But it's good for a mutually comforting 'ship, I'd say. I get why it's not canon, though. Waiting over half the series to introduce the love interest would be somewhat questionable-quality writing.

Will/Gwen: Yes, I'm aware that she was Using Him All Along. That still doesn't change the fact that this was the better-written of the hero's two romantic encounters in this movie. I have to wonder if there were future plans for this pairing, as Word of God has it that, had the film become a series as originally planned, Layla would've left Will for Warren.

Fred/Lena: Yes, I'm aware that she was Using Him All Along. This was still the most adorable thing about my personal favorite childhood Nightmare Fuel. Being turned to dust was a tad bit harsh, I think.

Juni/Demetra: Yes, I'm aware that she was Using Him All Along. Their relationship was still the best thing about the infuriating third movie. I told you I find shipping everywhere! Her "death" was both oddly touching and strangely infuriating, and given that Juni's relationship with his sister is sort of presented as the "healthy" counterpoint to his relationship with Demetra, possibly Family-Unfriendly Aesop-inducing.

James Bond/Elektra King: Yes, I'm aware that she was Usi- okay, I think I need help. I shipped this before I knew what shipping was, and my cousins would play the N64 game for me when I was a wee non-Droideka. I know it's probably an exercise in futility saying that there's one person James Bond should be with, but I ship this more for her than for him. Action movies need more characters like her. I wonder what happens to all the Bond Girls, anyway? Witness protection, maybe?

Jess/Leslie: With a side order of wanting to club him upside the head for pursuing Zooey Deschanel rather than noticing what's right in front of him which ultimately gets her killed. Does this movie count as Disney, by the way? I was thinking about adding them to Friends And The High Council.

Marius/Cosette... AND Marius/Eponine: Not at the same time, mind you. What I mean is that I get the appeal of both pairings. Marius/Cosette is my "that makes so much sense" 'ship; the one everything builds up to and which is wrapped up in a nice little bow at the end. Marius/Eponine, by contrast, is my "that's so satisfying" 'ship; it's the one the cheesy pre-recorded sitcom "whoooooooooo!" would play over. I will say this, though. The plot is basically sodomized with a 39-and-a-half-foot pole if Marius gets anyone other than Cosette.

So, those are my 'ships. What are yours, Tropers?

Crono x Lucca. This is mainly because I consider Lucca more interesting than Marle. (I've also heard arguments for Lucca x Frog, but I'm not sure they're compatible—Lucca's a lot more of a loose cannon.)

Mario x Peach. Come on, who hasn't been waiting for them to finally hook up instead of just eating cake together? (Though I have to admit, Mario x Luigi would explain a lot.)

Ron x Hermione. I learned about the existence of this ship from an article in the newspaper that asked various people what they hoped to see in the final book. My first thought was "Why did I never think of this?" My second thought was "Too bad it will never be canon." In that respect, the last book came as a welcome surprise. (A pity this leaves Harry without a good love interest, though—I didn't think his relationship with Ginny was very well-written, and Cho Chang was always more of a plot device than a character.)

Captain Falcon x Samus Aran. Not something I'd think of by myself, but Brawl In The Family managed to make it cute.

Edit: Okay, took another look at the first post. I never thought of Harry x Luna (perhaps because I stopped watching the movies), but I can actually see that working.

Akita Neru/Yowane Haku of Vocaloid is king right now, because I intend to write a yuri epic of them this coming spring break.

The best friend dynamic is sexy. The potential for Haku to get drunk and vulnerable frequently is nice too, because she'll have Neru to walk her home. Or do other things with. <3
