We GOTTA be able to come up with a better name than this: Blood On The Dance Floor

Seriously, Guess That Trope. (If you think this has anything to do with violence or bloodshed at any kind of dance hall festivities, you might be mistaking this for Ballroom Blitz)

On the whole, the [Trope Name] is misleading and only appears to have been named such for the sake of making Michael Jackson the Trope Namer for an article at the risk of giving it a title that doesn't even make the least bit of sense. It's also inexplicably filed as a Death Trope, even though the basic trope here has nothing to do with anybody dying and nothing about death is even highlighted in any of the examples.

Its wick count is very low though, so this would probably make for a good article to push for a new name outright.

I don't see how this is sufficiently different from The Dead Can Dance to even merit being a trope. Aside from a memetic association of vampires and dance halls, which seems like it stems from the Goth craze more than anything in Bram Stoker. Or Blade.

I believe that this is good enough on its own to merit being a subtrope of The Dead Can Dance (as this trope is currently calling itself). If it was just about vampires dancing, I'd say merge, but if mirror-lined dance halls or anything of the sort is a specific part of this, I'd say that makes for a good stand-alone concept.

I'm a little confused. Is this actually about mirrors? If so, then maybe something like Alone In The Ballroom Mirror? Or Reflectionless Dancers?

No, the trope is about vampires dancing, oftentimes with mirrors in a ballroom or dance hall showing vampire characters not casting a reflection.

How many of the examples have mirrors?

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Erm, ok, then, what about Vampire Dance or Vampire Ball? (Though the latter might be confused with Idiot Ball.)

^^I count six, including one inversion (they're the only examples that mention mirrors and reflections, and I'm not familiar with the examples I didn't count to know for sure whether or not this part of the trope ever comes into play).

Another point relative to this trope: some people here decided it really would be best to index some tropes about The Undead under Death Tropes and throw in the Death Trope spoiler warning while they're at it. This should be fixed.

^Is that what happened? Someone else had it filed under Bloody Tropes (along with numerous other tropes that didn't actually have anything to do with blood, apart from having the word in the title) a while back, as well.

I think an association with vampires and big dance halls can be a trope. Yes, you have a vampire movie and then you have the "Vampire Dance Hall Scene", the association occurs because of the connection of vampires with the aristocracy (and their night life) and for the opportunity to have big mirrors lining the hall to make that gag.

That is its difference from The Dead Can Dance. It would require a clear out. Arguable the more modern "Vampire Night Club" is related (because a modern vampire may not be associated with the aristocracy but will be associated with modern night life and decadence) but we'd still have to chuck out "OMG, vampires at clubs. Association!!!!". I think that might actually make its own trope- related because of that night life association but more simply based on opportunity: Vampires Hunt At Clubs because it's an easy place to find someone who is willing to hook up with you in a dark alley.

I propose we move ahead with an idea of renaming this one to Vampire Dance Hall Scene, I think that has the right words for people to not mix this up with vampire night clubs or murders at discos.

We can take Vampires Hunt At Night Clubs to YKTTW.

I think I might prefer Vampire Dance Scene, but either one is good enough for me.

From a certain point of view, maybe. Though I have a feeling that's something that would be covered by this trope, anyway.

Bump.

I'm not sure the word "scene" adds anything. Vampire Dance or Vampire Ball seems to get the point across just fine. But I think the main point is that we seem to have agreement that the name should change or the trope should be cut. Is it (past) time for a crowner?

I like Vampire Ball because it gets across exactly what kind of dance we're talking about, which is important to the trope. Unless we're lumping in the nightclub thing?

Vampire Rave? (What is a rave, anyway?)

We could just do a rename crowner.

Slightly OOC EDIT: This title keeps reminding me of an Incubus song...

Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman.

Never hurts to do it by the book. I'll request a single proposition crowner to rename. (Plus, that'll give us more time to discuss names.)

p.s. a rave is more-or-less a dance party for ecstasy users, I think. Lots of flashing lights and repetitive techno music. Or maybe that's just the one I went to.
