Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Boring, but Practical can be split into "Videogames" (retaining the current subfolders), "Other media", and "Real life" given the length of that section. I'll do it later if nobody gets there first.

I'm going to split Have a Gay Old Time. The page "broke" somehow when was adding an example.
EDIT: More or less done. It might need some example sorting. There are supposed to be two groups - traditional vs. intentional. Because the page was that large, people often did not notice. Also Example Indentation needs attention.

For Characters/ pages in general, since Fighteer has recently ruled that races/groups/guilds/factions/classes should not be troped on characters/ pages, it's a good idea to check if moving those to a separate page (such as Exalted.Tropes Races and TheLordOfTheRings.Tropes Peoples) would be enough to split a Characters/ page.
So I've gotten Characters.Magic The Gathering down to 135541 by doing that. Good enough, or does it still need splitting?

The Avengers has recently passed the 400,000 point, so I'm splitting the page based on that.

Is the list linked from the pinned post a bot/script-generated list? Because the two ptitle pages don't even exist anymore, so why are they on the list?

It's a script generated list. I assume you can't make it an ongoing report (like the Untyped Pages list) for performance reasons.
