too-long page repair.

Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Wiki markup works in the forum. You don't need to spell out the entire URL.

I'm going to do Characters.Wrestle Angels. I'm not sure how I'm going to split Narm.Film and TearJerker.Literature. Most of the entries are too small to get their own pages.

When you get a chance, can we get an update on this, Fast One?

The Phineas and Ferb trope lists have been resorted.

I moved eight folders on Scenery Porn to their own subpages since the article had over 380000 characters, largely because of the Video Games and Film folders. Should I have given every folder its own page?

This was my first time splitting a page. smile

General policy is that if you're splitting a page's examples, you move all the examples onto subpages. It doesn't always happen, but it's considered good form.

I was reluctant to do that to the folders with only one or two examples. I will at least give Music and Comic Books their own pages. But first, should I have Newspaper Comics and Comic Books be in different folders on SceneryPorn.Comics, or should those be on separate pages?

EDIT: Likewise, should Card Games and Tabletop Games have the same subpage?

I'd leave them separate, personally, but I'd also recommend waiting to see what other have to say, as I'm not really an expert on this subject.

I would leave them together on one page. 80% of "card games" are either going to be Magic The Gathering or Yu Gi Oh, and we don't need a full subpage for those two games.

Not to mention there's only one short Tabletop Games example… I think I know what to do with this one. Thanks. smile

I'm going to do Characters.Friendship Is Magic-BackgroundPonies. Given that most of Narm.Film's entries are too small to get their own pages, would splitting them alphabetically make more sense?

(off-topic) The Narm namespace still has the Flamebait banner. Dunno if that's a problem.

Well, that's what I was asking. I know the main Narm page is just a normal YMMV, but on the other hand the Narm namespace bizarrely has the YMMV coloring (isn't that just for works' YMMV pages and the Just for Fun tabs?), as opposed to Darth Wiki like Narm used to have.

Can we get a new page length report? The last one was almost two months ago.

Sandbox.Hottip Cleanup T is just a list used for the hottip cleanup project, so I just did a rough split of the page into two further subpages.

nvm (given the page is unlocked), although I'm not sure what to do about splitting archives (referring to the Archive.Lost And Found page).

Just resorted the tropes for The Simpsons and also split BetterThanItSounds.VideoGamesN-Z.

Also preemptively rearranged the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic tropes (The A-G page gathering more than 380000 characters; still pending index change through mod edit request) and split the Team Fortress 2 WMG page (also more than 380000 characters prior to split)
