The one that bothered me was the one where Eva 03 gets destroyed by 01 on autopilot. I like Toji, dangit.

I used that episode to demonstrate how dark the show is. When I showed my brother a clip of the episode with Leliel, he just thought the rain of blood was silly. Then I showed him the cleanup scene after Bardiel. The crunched up intersection covered in the stuff got the point across.

I had some Fridge Logic about the "Eva 03" incident actually: Wouldn't a dummy plug be a lot less powerful than Shinji, since it didn't have either sync ratio or any of Shinji's piloting skills or emotion behind it, instead of curb stomping it as easily as it had taken out Asuka and Rei?

Also, poking around on the Eva wiki:

1. There's an Evangelion Mascot Fighter? Whoa.
2. Rebuild is getting an American theatrical release!? Awesome. Even if it's only 77 theaters.

My local screening is in about two weeks. I'm planning on getting a ticket tomorrow.

I don't think the dummy plug actually pilots — it just tricks the Eva into activating, and it's the Eva itself berserking.

1. I don't like the idea of an Evangelion mascot fighter; I've given reasons elsewhere why (based mainly on things being out of character and hard to stomach emotionally).
2. Why are there no showings in the United States other than in the west coast, Texas, and a single showing in Boston?
3. Well, I'm not gonna watch it anyway. I'm still too attached to the original plot, and I would re(jec)tcon the plot of the Rebuild 1.0 anyway.

Nah. Cruel as it was, I'd've done the same thing. Eva isn't a magical girl world; you can't just cry and plead until the brainwashed person comes to their senses. If they're gone, they're gone. And knowing Touji, I'm reasonably certain that had NERV held back while trying to get through to Unit-03 and cost several hundred civilian lives in the process, he'd have risen from the grave to beat the shit out of Shinji for it and haunt his narrow ass.

Of course, this is just the result of me reading the manga.

What sync thing? Are you talking about 01's sync with the dummy plug (how does that work anyway?) or 03's with him?

03. And it seems to be more or less par for the course for Eva pilots. The idea seems to be that as long as there wasn't any physical injury to the pilot (or maybe there are also limitations on feedback), s/he'll be all right after a day or three.

Well, anyway. I haven't watched Rebuild, but have you heard the soundtrack? It's incredibly Narmy - Ominous English Chanting all the way.
