No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

So, like a biological version of the Megazord?
... No, like if the psychic collective that is the Tyranid Hive Mind actually ascended into a new Chaos God.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. What would it even be god of there? Hunger?
If it's empowered based on the emotions that it instils in humans, Fear might be a better choice. There's nobody who does that.
At least nobody in the Warp. The Nightbringer doesn't count.
Honestly, I'm not sure if becoming a chaos god would be "ascending" for that thing. It might be able to simply engulf and devour them as its billions of gribbly bodies engulf and devour their subjects.
Considering the hive mind can actually block out the Warp... feels more like a demotion.
Well, in fairness, it might simply be blocking people in the materium from experiencing the warp, rather than obliterating it. If you were dead set on making the Chaos Gods more impressive than the hive mind, you could liken it to the sun drowning out the light of much greater stars just because it's a lot more immediate from our perspective.
I wonder who would win if the Imperium caused the Tyranids to head into the Eye of Terror.
@ Willbyr: Good balanced list for that bracket. I don't think it's too ambitious, it's aggressive without being double-edged.
What came out the other end would be nice and fighty, so, probably the Orks.
On another note, you know how it's said that the Primarchs ended up with all-too-human personality flaws due to being raised by native humans of the worlds they ended up on? That seems to hold up for all but one: Sanguinius. No matter how I look at it, Sanguinius does not seem to have a single personality flaw in him. Not even when compared to the Emperor himself (unless one were to assume that he purposefully behaved like a Horrible Judge of Character due to prescient visions about this being the best path, as strongly implied by his conversation with Kai Zulane in the latter stages of the Horus Heresy).
The only thing I could construe as qualifying to be a "flaw" is that he somehow could not see the psychological issues that were plaguing Horus as the Great Crusade went on, especially after he was appointed Warmaster of the whole Imperial military across the galaxy... and this one could be chalked up to not being able to spend sufficient time interacting with Horus during the later stages of the Crusade to notice that he's dangerously straining under the weight of his responsibilities as well as his hidden insecurities. That said, at least he didn't hesitate like his father when he had to fight against his own brother.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That's precisely why he was chosen to lead the Second Imperium. Horus may have been the Emperor's favorite, but Sanguinius is the best of all of them, and even Horus said so, saying that had he been Emperor, Sanguinius would have been his choice for Warmaster.

He was also plagued by fears about his wings and what they mean.
The tourney was a lot of fun. I played three games, against Necrons, Ultramarines, and Tau respectively.
The first game ended in a 0-0 tie...the other guy hadn't played in a while but was running a Decurion detachment. I couldn't take much of his stuff off due to R Ps, but he didn't have a lot of success against me, either. The game was declared over after two rounds due to time restrictions. If I hadn't gotten greedy and moved one Tac squad off an objective to try an assault, I'd've won.
The second game was a 7-6 loss...he was running the triple Vindicator squad and my Ironclad whiffed every chance it had to take out one of the tanks. He ended up whittling enough of my guys off the table with that 10" pie plate to counter the objectives I was holding and the units I took out, and that made the difference.
The third game was a complete disaster. My opponent was running a Hammerhead, two Crisis suits, one of the jet pack units, and two Pathfinder squads (I think). He seized initiative and gradually shot me to pieces...it was just ugly. The dice turned on me, too, I failed a lot more saves than in the previous games. He didn't table me, though; the game went for 5 turns and at the end all I had left was the lascannon from my Devastators.
Still, I had a blast playing and for my first time to ever play the actual game, I don't think I did too bad. I probably should've rethought some of my tactics and possibly run a second heavy support choice instead of using the assault squad, but oh well. Now to get back to painting...

I'm experimenting with painting tattoos on my minis, the test models being my Ogryns for the amount of space I have to work with, lol. So far the first "test" tattoo turned out well. Lines are a little fuzzy at places, needs more definition, but the color looks brilliant - actually has an under the skin look. I used info from a tutorial online to get the effect.
I'll post pics when this mini is done.
Was the Tau player more a "kau'yon" patient hunter, or as the battlesuits and Hammerhead suggest, hammer you with the Fist of Mont'ka?
The latter...he exploded my only tank first turn, took out my dread on turn 2 or 3, and was whittling stuff off every turn.
Last time I played against Tau, I remember Iron Hand striding across the battlefield, charging and sweeping three whole squads of Fire Warriors. Then one of my Russes took out the Hammerhead, and one of my HWS, when charged by Kroot, whipped their asses like a Novigrad whore.
It was glorious.
YOU SURPROISED? THEY TROIED TO DAHNCE WITH A WITCHA!
But in all seriousness I will even overlook the fact that you use Iron Hands for such glory.
No, not Iron Hands as in space marines. "Iron Hand" Straken. As in one of the most badass Guardsmen. Hell during the same game he took a railgun hit and passed the invul save.
Ah, alright.
...Is Instant Death not a thing any more?
Or am I misremembering the rule?
"Yup. That tasted purple."Instant death overrides having multiple wounds, it doesn't override invulnerable saves.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."
When I said Eldritch Abomination, I meant in a superorganism sort of way, where each individual organism is a mini-Eldritch Abomination in its own right.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
