• Base-Breaking Character: George. You either think her upbeat personality is a great contrast to Atticus, or just nerve-grating.
• Captain Obvious Reveal: H0lyhandgrenade makes plenty of Ship Tease between Artemis and Atticus, and even lampshade it in Alt Text. Then it turns out that she actually just spotted his rocket shirt, except that the comment section was flooded with comments predicting this twist long before the ship tease even began.
• Drinking Game: As suggested by the author herself, every time a page ends on a cliffhanger, take a drink. It's a lethal game.
• Epileptic Trees: Many sprouted when Thad and Trix appeared, most of which were about Thaddeus being Atticus' father or about them being Atty and George from the future. (Though they were quickly Jossed by the author).
• Fan Nickname: "Rumplestiltskin" is fairly popular nickname for Gabe due to his "role" in another of the author's webcomics.
• Fashion-Victim Villain: As the Alt Text says here: "They have silly clothes! And big hair! And eyeliner! They MUST be evil!"
• Foe Yay Shipping: Fans like to pair up Atticus and Kahn, as well as Atticus and Gabe, apparently. Just look at this manip◊.
• Fridge Brilliance: Stein, who is mostly blind and has his eyes wide open, is a direct inversion of Brock, who can apparently see just fine.
• Memetic Molester: The Pewter City guide, thanks to his No Sense of Personal Space, slightly creepy grin and dragging Atticus around.
• Narm:
  • Chapter 13 features Atticus and George arguing because Atticus is stealing Pokemon for Team Rocket to free Dragonthing from them. The scene is ruined because Atticus is wearing an obviously fake mustache the entire time.
  • Chapter 13 features another example on page 109, where George believes that Atticus' attempt to steal people's Pokemon to free Dragonthing was a cowardly act, seeing as how he supposedly took the easy way out. She believes there must be another way of solving the problem and when Atticus asks what her plan is, she replies with "Strength of heart". This can come across as incredibly cliche and cringy, even for someone as naive as her. Then again, this might be the intended reaction.
• Viewer Gender Confusion: This very website used male pronouns in regards to Dragonthing for a very long time. Atticus was just as surprised to learn the truth, actually.
• The Woobie:
  • Oh God, Dragonthing. It's stuck with Atticus as its trainer, a chain smoking apathetic boy who doesn't know anything about Pokemon and never wanted to be a trainer to begin with. Because of this, Dragonthing is treated like a slave who's worthless, being handled carelessly and carried around by its tail, which Atticus also uses to light his cigarettes (Atticus even refers to it at one point as a glorified lighter). Due to Atticus' incompetence at battling, Dragonthing gets mercilessly beat up during its first battle, all the while desperately tugging and crying to its master to protect it or give it some kind of command. It deals with constant verbal and emotional abuse from Atticus, and despite all this, it's still desperate to win the approval of its trainer. It's so desperate, it nearly kills itself during a fight with a Feraligatr and kept attacking it despite how badly it was hurt. Just seeing how sad, hurt, and abused it is during its journey so far is enough to make anyone want to just pick it up and give it a hug. It doesn't help that the way the author draws Dragonthing makes her look a lot more adorable than the average Charmander.
  • Rat has the same problems as Dragonthing, only with an added level of physical torment, losing both an ear and a tail to Atticus's leadership style. All this and he doesn't get the love/respect that Dragonthing eventually gets.
• Word of Gay: The author confirmed on Tumblr that Artemis, the Cerulean City Gym Leader, is a lesbian; there's a picture of her girlfriend on the desk in her office.
