  • Actor Shipping: A lot of the more die-hard Hope/Josie shippers have taken to shipping the characters' actresses, Danielle Rose Russell and Kaylee Bryant. This is helped by their off-screen friendship and the fact that the two have been very vocal about their support for the ship, saying that they would love for it to become canon. Bryant coming out as queer only helped fuel the ship's fans. The pairing is also popular on sites like Tumblr and Twitter. The two even have their own Portmanteau Couple Name, Daylee. This is not helped by the fact that the two are very affectionate with each other (such as calling each other wifey) or Bryant saying stuff like this:
Kaylee: I'm not like a team Hosie or a team Posie. I'm like a "I'm in love with Danielle Rose Russell" team. Is that a team? I feel like it is.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Like Elena before him, Landon has proven to be a very divisive character amongst the fan base, with some calling him uninteresting and useless while his defenders say he's relatable. This furthered into the third season, in which detractors claim that Landon's arc with Hope has long since worn out it's welcome, and that his relationship with Hope is starting to overshadow Hope as a character.
    • Lizzie as well mostly in Season 1. Some fans like her being a kind of mini version of Caroline (her surrogate mother) while other find terribly self-absorbed, needy and jealous. Though she somewhat Rescued from the Scrappy Heap thanks to Character Development in Season 2.
  • Complete Monster: See here.
  • Contested Sequel: Many fans of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have been less than thrilled about the more lighthearted tone, return to focusing on teenage characters after the more adult-centric TO, expanding the universe into a Fantasy Kitchen Sink where All Myths Are True, and the show's Monster of the Week format, as opposed to the serialized storytelling of the two predecessors.
  • Die for Our Ship:
    • Finch, Josie's love interest in season 3, has gotten a lot of hate from Josie/Hope shippers. A lot of shippers try to paint her as an unlikeable jerk, ignoring all of her more positive qualities and the fact that Hope is far from the nicest person to Josie in the same season. This has also sadly led some shippers to harass Finch's actress online. A lot of this extends to all of Josie's love interests, except for Penelope, but Finch has got it worse than the others due to being yet another character in the way of the Fan-Preferred Couple.
    • Landon is often the target of hatred from those who ship Hope with anyone else, mainly from Hope/Josie shippers. There are entire fanfics dedicated to turning Landon into an abusive man-child who Hope needs saving from. A lot of shippers also like to claim he is too immature for Hope in comparison to Josie. Some even try to claim he's a sex offender for kissing Hope to wake her up in the season 3 premiere, and that despite him saying otherwise, he's constantly giving up on Hope when she needs him.
    • Josie Saltzman gets a lot of flak from Hope/Lizzie shippers for "getting in the way of their ship" and is often portrayed as a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing by them. The main factor they like to use is her telling Lizzie that Hope had spread rumors about Lizzie, which prevented the two from actually bonding, which they use to paint her as an abusive sister who doesn't deserve Hope as Lizzie does. This ignores the fact that, by all accounts, Lizzie disliked Hope before this and Josie being a kid at the time while expressing guilt in the present.
    • Ryan Clarke gets a lot of hate from those who ship Hope with either Josie, Landon, or Lizzie due to his hinted crush on her in the second, third and fourth seasons. They like to portray him as a Jerkass while ignoring his more nuanced moments, claim that he doesn't deserve Hope due to his villainous ways despite his efforts to redeem himself, and try to make him a creepy stalker who won't take no for an answer. When Hope, with no humanity, forces him to tag along with her, shippers somehow found a way to turn this into his fault by painting it as him forcing his way in, despite her basically kidnapping him, all because of his crush that is only hinted at existing.
  • Draco in Leather Pants:
    • A lot of fans like to forgive Ryan Clarke's more unsavory actions, like repeatedly threatening the lives of teenagers and helping in turning Josie into Dark Josie. Much of this comes from his actor Nick Fink's natural charm and good looks, which has led to many fangirls shipping him with Hope.
    • Dark Josie, an alternate evil personality of Josie, almost instantly had fans who excused her murderous intentions due to her good looks. She torments her own friends, imprisons her good half in their mind, and tries to kill Hope repeatedly. However, a lot of fangirls like to instead portray her as a much better version of Josie, in comparison to her vanilla good half.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Out of all the Monsters of the Week that were sent after the school in Season 1 the one that had to be the most memorable was The... NECROMANCER! And the showrunners seem to have agreed seeing as how he was upgraded to Big Bad status in Season 2. Ben Geurens' delightfully memomrable over the top perfornance as him probably helped.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple:
    • Hope and Josie both had a crush on each other when they were younger, and this led to the ship becoming extremely popular. It's arguably the most popular ship in the show's fandom. The pairing dominates most fanfiction sites and is easily more popular than Hope/Landon or any of Josie's ships. This is not helped by the two's actresses, Danielle Rose Russell and Kaylee Bryant, encouraging shippers and saying that they would love for the ship to become canon.
    • Despite Lizzie having a couple of canon love interests, such as Sebastian and Ethan, most fans prefer to ship her with Hope. This is due to her and Hope's rivalry coming off more like Belligerent Sexual Tension than the creators intended and the fact that Lizzie is the first person to remember Hope in season two, leading to the two developing a close friendship.
  • Fans Prefer the New Her: No humanity Hope is supposed to be horrifying, with fans rooting for her to turn back to normal, but a lot of fangirls have claimed that they prefer the new one. It helps that not only is this Hope out seducing women while wearing tight leather, but she is also having a lot more fun than regular Hope, which is nice to see after all the pain she has been through.
  • Fandom-Specific Plot: Caroline tends to be a lot more involved in the school and her daughters' lives in fanfiction, usually more than Alaric is.
  • Foe Yay Shipping:
    • The moment that the dark version of Josie, Dark Josie, first appeared, a lot of fans took to shipping this version with Hope. They like to forget that Dark Josie tried to repeatedly kill her or that Hope hates this version. The main reasons seem to be that Hope refuses to let anyone kill her, due to that still being Josie, and the fact that Dark Josie is very flirtatious with everyone. The fact that it's popular to ship the good half of Josie with Hope also helps.
    • Hope/Clarke is a popular ship within the fandom, despite the fact that Hope has nothing but hate for Clarke and that Clarke has repeatedly threatened the lives of Hope's friends. This is mainly due to a lot of fans feeling they are similar to Damon and Elena from The Vampire Diaries, what with Clarke being the brother of Hope's love interest, Landon.
  • Hollywood Homely: Josie is meant to be the less attractive sister between her and Lizzie, but anyone can see that Kaylee Bryant is a pretty girl.
  • I Knew It!: Mainly people were calling Aurora's appearance as the vampire leader of Triad in Season as soon as Hope spoke to a mysterious woman.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships:
  • LGBT Fanbase: The abundance of pretty girls who like other girls on the show has spawned this, naturally. Canonically several characters are part of the LGBT community, with Josie being pansexual and Hope being bisexual. All three of Josie's love interests Penelope, Finch, and Jade, are also queer. Lizzie is also Ambiguously Bi. That is not even mentioning the popularity of the Hope/Josie ship, which is supported by their actresses Danielle Rose Russell and Kaylee Bryant (who is queer in real life).
  • Magnificent Bitch: "Dark Josie" is an evil alternate personality of Josie Saltzman and the self-described "Supervillain" of the Super Squad. Figuring a way out of the prison world, Dark Josie rewrites the rules of the noir simulation that the Squad enter, trying to put her sister into a comma. Later teaming up with the Necromancer, Dark Josie forces Lizzie to agree to merge, but keeps her word about letting the rest of the student body go. When Hope enters her mind, Dark Josie takes the role of the evil queen, tracking her and good Josie, before being defeated by the good Josie. Returning one final time, Dark Josie tries to convince Josie that she can't live a human life before helping to save Hope after getting her good half to admit that she still cares.
  • More Popular Replacement: Kaylee Bryant and Jenny Boyd are technically the second pair of actresses to play the teenaged versions of Josie and Lizzie Saltzman in the franchise, after replacing Bella Samman and Allison Gobuzzi, who played them briefly on The Originals. However, due to how briefly the latter two played them and how the current two would define the twins more as characters, most of the fandom tends to forget that the two from The Originals played them at all and act as if they have always played the teenaged versions. Any fanfic that features the two will be based on their personalities in Legacies, like Josie being shy rather than a spoiled brat like The Originals suggested.
  • One True Threesome:
    • Lizzie/Hope/Josie is very popular amongst fans. Mostly due to their relationship development as a trio and some heartwarming moments. Fans generally called them Hosizzie.
    • Not to the same extent but Hope/Josie/Penelope in Season 1 because Josie has a kind of Will They or Won't They? situation with both. Called Phosie by fans.
    • In Season 2, Josie/Landon/Hope became ratherly popular ironically after their Love Triangle was resolved as Landon finally choose Hope and Josie remained friends with both. Their scene at the end of 2x09 attracted a lot of shippers. Some fans called them Handosie.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: To give some examples:
    • Hope/Landon: Handon
    • Hope/Lizzie: Hizzie
    • Hope/Josie: Hosie
    • Penelope/Josie: Posie
    • MG/Lizzie: Mizzie
    • Hope/Rafael: Hafael
    • MG/Josie: Mosie
    • Landon/Lizzie: Landizzie
    • Josie/Landon: Jandon
    • Sebastian/Lizzie: Sizzie
    • Jade/Josie: Jasie
    • Hope/Josie/Lizzie: Hosizzie
    • Hope/Landon/Josie: Handosie
    • Hope/Josie/Penelope: Phosie
    • MG/Ethan: Methan
  • Replacement Scrappy: While people didn't hate Ethan, most fans prefer his sister Maya instead and wish that she had stayed around instead.
  • Ship Mates: Hope/Josie shippers tend to be Lizzie/MG shippers as well, mainly to get Lizzie out the way of their ship. For the same reason, Hope/Lizzie shippers tend to get along with Josie/Penelope shippers. Meanwhile, Josie/Landon shippers get along with Hope/Rafael shippers.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat:
    • Not to the extent of its parent series, but the fandom still gets in a few shipping wars. These mainly happen between Hope/Landon shippers and Hope/Josie shippers. The two sides will often come to blows when the question of whom Hope should end up with comes up. Hope/Landon shippers will often point out that the show is built around the pair's bond, while Josie and Hope's crushes on each other are very much in the past, and in the present, they have a more sister-like bond. Hope/Josie shippers will often point to their actresses' approval as the reason that their ship should be endgame, while portraying Landon as a toxic influence on Hope, who constantly gives up on her.
    • Hope/Josie and Hope/Lizzie shippers tend to get into huge debates over which of the twins deserve Hope more, often ignoring Hope already having a canon love interest, Landon. Hope/Josie shippers like to point out that there is no evidence that Lizzie is even into girls, while painting Lizzie as a Jerkass who is needlessly cruel to Hope and often minimizing or outright ignoring Lizzie's legit mental issues to paint her as worse than she is. Meanwhile, Hope/Lizzie shippers will try to paint Josie as a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing, taking every wrong thing she does as painting her as abusive to both Hope and Lizzie, ignoring the times she has put both of them above her wellbeing and happiness. Hope/Lizzie shippers will also often feud with Hope/Landon shippers, portraying him as a toxic influence for Lizzie to save Hope from.
  • Tough Act to Follow: In TVD Universe in general in comparison with the two others The Vampire Diaries and The Originals :
    • With TVD. Though is debatable for some fans if it's better or not despite the same recurring elements, Legacies didn't have the hype of The Vampire Diaries due to its Lighter and Softer tone and its version of Monster of the Week (mythical bestiary: dragon,gargoyle...).
    • With (and possibly more) The Originals. Many fans found Legacies fall short after this one (praised for its use of supernatural politics and power dynamics, better focus of family bonds...) thinking it's mirroring too much with the first show.
